Avoided it this far - today it's caught up with me

Covid.

Since the pandemic my world, like many others I guess, has now become a lot smaller.

I do go out and about, quiet times where possible for the supermarket shop etc - meet friends in gardens still for catch ups and take my own coffee etc.

DD negative but DP positive first and I've been avoiding them rigorously. Seems the damage has been done.

It's only a question of time - a day or so maybe? That Covid scores it's hat trick in this house.

No actual point to this post at all.

Shocked that people are still living in fear of covid.

Maybe step out of your own world and put yourself in the position of those that are vunerable or those that have long covid hey.

blahblahblahspoons · 03/07/2022 17:36

If all public indoor spaces had decent ventilation and air filtration it would lead to a much healthier population, and less disruption (cancelled flights etc) from people being off sick.

It's really a win-win, especially given the relatively low cost of air filtration units. And yet...

SingingInParadise · 03/07/2022 17:17

@GiveMeNovocain well let me think…..

ventilation, testing, people actually PAID to stay and home and not go and infect their coworkers, FPP2 masks (not flimsy material or blue mask).

It has been explained so many times now….

Ummm you forgot vaccinations and no. I'm not wearing a stinking mask in the middle of summer

@SummertimeTremdendous i wouldn’t call that a ‘bad dose’ if you were still able to function and not in bed.

Presumably what makes some people take to their beds and other people differ.

Honestly, you might not catch it. It’s a weird illness. I’ve dodged it twice despite one of my DCs having it.

In our house, DC2 (toddler so close physical contact inevitable) had it last winter. DC1 (primary age), DH and myself were all unwell - more so than DC2 - but never tested positive despite multiple lateral flow tests and more than one PCR test each (long story).

Then DC2 and DH had it the other week. I didn’t share a bed with DH as I was trying to delay catching it until he was recovering, if you see what I mean, but I didn’t think I’d dodge it twice. We kept the windows open and avoided hanging out in the same room as him but DC2 was with me most of the time. But neither DC1 nor I caught it.

We do not limit ourselves in terms of what we do, although I do still wear a mask on the tube. I wonder if DC1 and I have developed a level of natural immunity due to constant exposure through work/school/public transport. But I could be wrong.

DasGirl · 03/07/2022 17:44

they are really sick. It’s made me sit up a bit.

Are they actually really sick @Herejustforthisone or do they just feel very rough.
There's a big difference between the 2. One is needing to see the Dr for medical intervention/ hospital and the other has people languishing in bed dosed up on paracetamol for a few days but never any great risk to their health.

I've felt very unwell with colds at times, but I've never actually been really sick in a way that would need medical attention,

Fingeronthebutton · 03/07/2022 17:46

I imagine that your immune system is completely buggered after living like a hermit for this length of time.
Your poor child. She’s the one I feel sorry for. Lord knows what she thinks of you.

🙄 yawn.

925XX · 03/07/2022 17:47

I have not had it nor my husband. We work, go to pubs, theatre, dance classes, etc etc but still did not catch it.

You’re right.
I have a chronic illness and I’m disabled. When I’m in bed, it’s because i am really really ill. I’m so used to get on with it when I’m exhausted/in pain that me being in bed means are really severe.

Most people will probably be in bed before I am.

Frauhubert · 03/07/2022 17:50

The subject is misleading. It’s suggesting you have been avoiding/doing something surrounded by a veil of mystique, living under the radar, something bordering on illegal. And then … but instead your cohabitant has covid.

ZenNudist · 03/07/2022 17:52

I'm sorry but you're about 2.5 years too late for drama about covid. It's nothing. Stop worrying. You might feel rough for a few days that's it!

balalake · 03/07/2022 17:55

The point to this post seems to me to remind people that Covid is still with us. You don't have to hide and make the world smaller, but make a few adjustments and have a plan should you have to self-isolate.

One issue that has not gone away is decent sick pay, and the government removing the NHS arrangements for Covid absence this week is disgraceful.

I guess you missed the posts of people being in hospital, long covid.

So no, it's no nothing.

HTH.

Fuckitydoodah · 03/07/2022 18:00

All this it's 'just a cold' is bollocks. Head over to the covid board and you'll see there's plenty of people feeling really rough with it.

I tested positive last week for the first time. Been leading life as normal. I've had so many different symptoms and was bed ridden for a couple of days. A week later I'm still full of what feels like a heavy cold and utterly exhausted. I'm triple vaxxed.

Replacethis · 03/07/2022 18:01

Try not to worry. Most people are just inconvenienced by having to isolate. Maybe afterwards you will feel less anxious and be able to participate in life again.

Hoowhoowho · 03/07/2022 18:03

I’ve had Covid twice, first time I was hospitalised and this time it’s been much worse than a bad cold but not hospital level. I’m fully vaccinated. Covid varies among people, it’s not ‘just a cold’ for everyone.

Bongbangbing · 03/07/2022 18:05

So surprised at the attitudes in this thread. 1 in 5 according to the CDC get long COVID. More likely the more times you get infected. Long lasting damage to multiple organs.

KillerBoots · 03/07/2022 18:08

I've had it once March 2020 and it was pretty bad. It was before testing but I lost my taste and smell with a terrible cough so pretty much certain it was covid. The only person I know who hasn't had it is my dad but he's super careful and lives by himself. I'm the main person who sees him but if I feel a bit off I won't go round to see him just incase. Can't afford constant testing right now but I have a few spare tests for emergencies.

I'm CEV and stayed in for 2 years, 2 years of being on my own doing nothing.
I couldn't keep doing it, I may have been alive but I had no life.
I'm much happier now I go out, Covid was mild for me but I was prepared to take the risk.
My body, my choice.

Exactly two weeks after I'm sure I caught it at a gig a 4 hour drive away, I was at another gig, on the opposite side of the country, also 4 hour drive away.

whynotwhatknot · 03/07/2022 18:16

I do understand anxiety op b ut how long are you going to live like this

not meeting indoors not ding anything what the point

ive had it twice fully vaccinated the co9ugh was the worst part

Rosebel · 03/07/2022 18:17

Covid rates are still high but we've been lucky so far (well me, DS and DD1 have, DH and DD2 had it once).
We are going about as normal, work, school, nursery, seeing friends and family, going to the supermarket and I'm vulnerable.
It's absolutely up to you how you want to live and if this makes you feel safe then that's fine but as you've discovered you can still catch Covid.
Hopefully you'll only have a mild case.

Twiglets1 · 03/07/2022 18:18

Honestly 🙄
