Avoided it this far - today it's caught up with me

Covid.

Since the pandemic my world, like many others I guess, has now become a lot smaller.

I do go out and about, quiet times where possible for the supermarket shop etc - meet friends in gardens still for catch ups and take my own coffee etc.

DD negative but DP positive first and I've been avoiding them rigorously. Seems the damage has been done.

It's only a question of time - a day or so maybe? That Covid scores it's hat trick in this house.

No actual point to this post at all.

Not talking about lockdowns mental health etc i understand all this. My point being its just quite sensible & pretty non invasive to protect yourself & others by washing your hands, wearing a mask maybe in busy or crowded indoor spaces & maybe testing every so often out of courtesy to other human beings. No one can afford to be off work etc and it is the government that are causing all these issues between people & families by not acknowledging there is still a problem.

It’s disproportionate given the nature of how covid is now. The masks and excess hand washing etc is probably what’s caused a huge rise in post covid viruses among small children. It isn’t a healthy or normal way to live. People don’t want to make these sacrifices any more, nor should they have to.

Well, yes. No-one knows what the effect of lockdowns are in the years after.

Australia, which was locked down forever, it suffering from a particularly nasty increase in flu cases, along with Covid right now.

Tested positive today for the second time in 6 months!

What do you think this would achieve, though? We were doing all this and more in previous waves, when cases were even higher than now. China has been doing really brutal lockdowns of entire cities and even that hasn’t stopped omicron.

It’s not spreading because people are selfish, it’s spreading because it’s really really infectious.

GoldenOmber · 04/07/2022 16:56

I know quite a few people who have tested positive in this wave and most of them are people who’ve got it for the first time. That whole social circle has generally been more cautious (still masks sometimes, still testing, pay attention to keeping windows and so on) and I think that’s made it more obvious, because they test and know about it whereas even back in March lots of people had given up with LFTs. So based on that I don’t know if it’s getting more people I know who haven’t had it before, or whether it’s getting everyone equally but only these ones are, noticing.

Fortunately it hasn’t been too bad for most of the people I know who’ve got it this time round - has varied between a couple of days and a couple of weeks of feeling a bit crap. Feels like a whole different world to 2020.

motogirl · 04/07/2022 17:15

I've worked throughout the pandemic, go to the pub most weeks etc and haven't caught covid since March 2020. Hiding away means you aren't topping up your immunity

Summerwhereareyou · 04/07/2022 17:22

Moto I also worked through pretty much and never got it.
I caught it in this wave

Good luck op. First time here too, day twelve, still fatigued. Not keen to have it again as it means I just miss out and have less energy to do my happy things. I doubt anyone will avoid it forever tho. I would just swerve the judgement, do your own research and stick to a protocol that works for you.

I'm on day 8 and nothing but Covid makes me ill for this long. Its not absolutely terrible, I just feel really tired and my lungs feel heavy.

Has anyone tried to get antibiotics/prednisolone from their GP for it?
