Cabinet meeting this morning

It's all going well.

Of course, army types love a fight and BoJo will be their man to get one. I don't blame Zelinsky for welcoming him with open arms each time armed with his chequebook - it's the only place he feels loved and has had a street named after him.

The thing that annoys me is Zelinsky doesn't seem to recognise it isn't Johnson's cheque book, it's our cheque book. Same as everyone seeming to think Sunak was so generous with all his lockdown money, again it wasn't coming out of his wallet.

Aren't they a happy positive looking bunch. I could laugh if it wasn't so horrific.

Tbh I can’t judge Zelinsky, I think a lot of things get put aside in the situation he’s in to achieve his goal which is arming his country in an urgent situation. That’s not a comment on whether I agree or disagree with anything but I can absolutely see why he has no qualms about taking advantage of the conditions.

Another reason BJ isn’t a suitable ambassador for the country. His personal aims are too tangled up with his political debts.

DuncinToffee · 05/07/2022 11:08

Pincher UQ granted, expected 1230

Angela Rayner MP - To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office if he will make a statement on the mechanisms for upholding standards in public life.

I disagree, the contribution of the British taxpayer is ignored, Zelinsky has to do what he has to do but all politicians need to recognise that the "little people" matter and do have power.

We are providing the aid to Ukraine Johnson is claiming he is doing it all and he's lying as per usual.

yes, and if BJ was doing his job properly any thanks from Ukraine would be given and received by representatives and taken as acknowledgement to and from the citizens of each country. Boris has created a narrative where it’s him and him alone pushing support of the Ukraine war.

The disgruntlement you’re experiencing isn’t a result of Zelinsky’s diplomacy, it’s a result of the politics and media support surrounding BJ.

ApplesandBunions · 05/07/2022 11:29

It takes the piss, particularly as Ukraine is a broad consensus issue in the UK. Whoever was PM, there would be support.

DowningStreetParty · 05/07/2022 11:40

He was quite clear that we are currently operating as a failed state.

Absolutely, it’s shocking. Really perilous times domestically and globally are so much more likely to end in tragedy when we are being led by such scurrilous people.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/07/2022 11:58

So Carrie's briefing against Johnson too now. Is she preparing to jump ship?

Possibly related to the rumours of an injunction on the story about the pregnant hairdresser (twitter is swirling with them - #hairdressergate)

vera99 · 05/07/2022 12:04

Whose idea was it to let Sky into the cabinet today?

And a large number will still say "he's doing a good job - brexit - vaccines" but from conversations I've been having I've realised these are people who don't really have an understanding or in depth knowledge of politics and the actual goings on. Once in a while these were your biggest audience to get inside. But I no longer think this audience with the staunch far righters are by any means the largest proportion of the population anymore.

And, with covid numbers rising again, I'm not sure how far he can rely on the old vaccines excuse. We seem to be well behind other countries in terms of getting the fourth booster out.

Cornettoninja · 05/07/2022 12:15

@vera99 those pictures to somewhat satisfies the urge to wipe some smug grins off their faces.

AmaryIlis · 05/07/2022 12:16

Fabricant: "‘If the Prime Minister has two weaknesses, one is believing you're innocent until proven guilty and the second one is loyalty.’"

The trouble is, when you have a complaint upheld against you, you are proven guilty. And it would be nice if some of that loyalty extended to staff in the Whips' office being abused by Pincher.

When even Mogg, Dorries and Braverman can't bring themselves to simper over him, he's in trouble.

Well we definitely know that about Sunak because he does not believe that he and his family should pay taxes.

From what I heard of Raab this morning (R4) the McDonald letter seemed to be pushing him into distancing himself from Johnson. He was keen to go on and on about how seriously he had taken the allegations, and how carefully he had investigated, but when it came to what Johnson knew he was almost shrugging his shoulders and saying "You're on your own there, Boris".

Agreed.
But because Raab is not very bright he also said something along the lines of he made sure that the investigation went beyond the policy/procedure at the time.
If employment law applied in this case, then it is a very foolish thing to admit that you did not follow policy.

Yep. Those three are particularly low on competence and entirely owe their positions to their relationships with Johnson, so that's incredibly telling.

I think part of it as well is the knowledge that this is going to be an endless stream, from now until whenever Johnson finally departs. Because of who he is and because the right wing rags are finally turning against him now, there's always going to be more. You make a twat of yourself defending the indefensible today, you'll be out doing it again in a fortnight or so when the next story breaks. The belief that it might be possible to just get this one scandal out of the way and then move on is evaporating, and you can see it.

Cheguevarahamster · 05/07/2022 12:43

Is this it? Can it really be near the end? Proscecco is on standby.

vera99 · 05/07/2022 12:59

I'd rather see him remain in power to the next election or call an election early with the hope of a coalition and then PR.

vera99 · 05/07/2022 13:13

That LBC call on James OB about our failing state.
