Redactle - THE HINTS THREAD

BIWI · 29/06/2022 09:32

Given how difficult it is to offer hints for redactle, without giving it away/being too obvious, this is a specific thread for hints.

Doesn't mean that they should give the game away, but it just stops other players seeing the hint every time they access the main thread.

So from now on, just keep your stats and general comments on the main thread and come here for any hints!

Thank you @MrsLargeEmbodied @InMySpareTime!

I have relooked at it, and I am very annoyed with myself, as had already guessed that, but with a hyphen. Aaargh!

BIWI · 15/10/2022 15:25

Yes, @MrsElm - it's a word I would normally expect to see hyphenated as well!

Any chance of a clue for today's puzzle?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/10/2022 16:40

@MrsElm dutch philosopher

InMySpareTime · 16/10/2022 16:42

@MrsElm one of the kinds of people Austin Powers' dad can't stand.
First word is a kind of Boss

You'll need Google for the second but those two bits of info should give you enough.

I will have to Google the first clue also 😅

InMySpareTime · 16/10/2022 16:45

A name that goes before Boss

InMySpareTime · 16/10/2022 16:46

Or Weaving

MrsElm · 16/10/2022 16:53

@InMySpareTime thank you! I would never have got that!

Bichette · 17/10/2022 15:48

Any clues for today's, please?
I'm running out of time.

InMySpareTime · 17/10/2022 15:50

@Bichette it's not unusual to spread it all about.

@InMySpareTime that is a cracking clue!

Bichette · 17/10/2022 16:12

Thanks but I'm still stuck. 🤯

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2022 16:18

I suppose it could describe a standard days work for a postie.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/10/2022 16:19

Have you got any idea of the subject matter at all?

ApolloandDaphne · 17/10/2022 16:19

Pictorially - if a child drew a hill.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/10/2022 16:20

Anything we say about this may be lies, damned lies

InMySpareTime · 17/10/2022 16:34

Google Gauss

Bichette · 17/10/2022 16:36

Phew 😅 got it

Bichette · 17/10/2022 16:36

Thanks

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 18/10/2022 15:20

I got today's after guessing two consecutive words that I could google, but this is a) very obscure b) a bit similarish (at least lots of similar terms) to yesterday?

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2022 16:21

I suppose it's a bit similar to yesterdays in being an important application of yesterdays general field. But as I commented on the main thread it's a 'two cultures' sort of topic - really fundamental, not obscure.

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 18/10/2022 16:29

It is a sort of "shakespeare" level of fame, or more like e.g. Emily Dickinson?

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2022 16:31

Shakespeare level, certainly in some fields.

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 18/10/2022 16:45

Thanks! I do find redactle educational for exactly this reason
