Redactle - THE HINTS THREAD

825 replies

BIWI · 29/06/2022 09:32

Given how difficult it is to offer hints for redactle, without giving it away/being too obvious, this is a specific thread for hints.

Doesn't mean that they should give the game away, but it just stops other players seeing the hint every time they access the main thread.

So from now on, just keep your stats and general comments on the main thread and come here for any hints!

@MrsElm

I could write you a lovely story about what the second word is, and it would be Legendary, but I'm too studious for all that. I've got an "ology", dontcha know.

MrsElm · 29/09/2022 06:27

@InMySpareTime thank you!

The first thing my DD12 asked me this morning was, had I solved the Redactle yet! I explained your clue, and she immediately came up with the word!

It's often a family effort for us 🤗

dapsnotplimsolls · 29/09/2022 19:20

Help! I just can't nail it :(

dapsnotplimsolls · 29/09/2022 19:41

Never mind, I found a youtube video!

InMySpareTime · 29/09/2022 20:07

There's a YouTube video about Redactle?
Or about the topic?

dapsnotplimsolls · 29/09/2022 20:24

There's a youtube video of someone solving it. I was desperate :)

Ha!!!

Being impatient today as I have a lot of work. Have a few vaguely directional words but not enough. Any not TOO obvious hints, welcome!

@BobDear it's a synonym of friendly activity.

InMySpareTime · 30/09/2022 12:07

@BobDear or, in a certain sense, a very public poo.

BobDear · 30/09/2022 16:20

Great clues - thanks. @InMySpareTime that made me laugh and helped a LOT

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/09/2022 22:00

There's no way I'd have got today's without mucho googling.

chesterelly1 · 01/10/2022 14:04

Anyone got a clue for today? I'm definitely in the right area but drawing a blank now

chesterelly1 · 01/10/2022 14:12

Did it! Phew got a phrase long enough to Google

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/10/2022 14:14

Good, I was just trying to think of a hint I could give!

SheilaFentiman · 05/10/2022 12:57

Marking place for hints!

BobDear · 05/10/2022 13:12

@SheilaFentiman I got lucky today - 29 guesses because of a key word. Have you slammed all the usual suspects in? I would say that the key word is in my top twenty 'starter' words every day?

It's nothing obscure - you could work it out even if your knowledge around it is a bit ropey.

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 05/10/2022 13:29

some of my favourite starting words are "he" and "she" (HE COMES UP SO MUCH MORE OFTEN which is annoying) - that helped with this one, then I try likely "jobs"

InMySpareTime · 05/10/2022 14:50

I usually try United (rules in or out both US and UK) and century to narrow down timeframe. If century has a 2 or 3 letter word after it, I try BC or BCE, then Ancient.
If it doesn't, I start with 20th and work back until I've matched the number of century hits.

If it looks like it's a person then I try look for patterns with either 2 or 3 letter words in the right place to make sense as 'he' or 'she' without filing them in.

InMySpareTime · 05/10/2022 15:17

At least 5 of my guesses each day are sausage-fingered misspellings.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/10/2022 16:44

This is another reason for me not entering guesses if I can help it, that and accidentally hitting enter instead of the guess button and getting unwanted autoplurals.Grin

BobDear · 05/10/2022 17:11

Sometimes I play against the clock instead of caring about the Redactle scoring system. This in infinitely more fun as you just smash words into the guess box and guess as fast as you can rather than as carefully as you can. You still use the same logic, but far less measured. My record is about four minutes.

TheHideAndSeekingHill · 05/10/2022 17:41

baffled by today's! got the long word and some of the other "descriptors" but it doesn't help much with the title
