Are birkenstocks worth the money?

Have seen a pair of birkenstocks that I love . Never had a pair but they are quite expensive for a sandal.

Are they worth the money?

I found mine comfortable but I get hot feet and the soles absorbed the foot sweat and were quite stinky quite quickly. Sorry, TMI!

rifling · 28/06/2022 08:55

I have 2 real pairs (one I use as slippers) and one fake pair. The fake ones are comfy too but are wearing out quicker.

MrsDrDear · 28/06/2022 08:58

I had a pair years back, really uncomfortable, felt like my soles were burning.

Yes! Mine have all lasted over 10 years. I love seeing pics of me wearing them ages ago.

ivykaty44 · 28/06/2022 09:04

I’m replacing mine this year after 12 years of comfort. They cost me £50 so well worth the money

prinnycessa · 28/06/2022 09:06

I have three pairs and I love them, worth every penny. Comfortable and go with every outfit. Good for here and on hols. Highly recommend

GreatCrash · 28/06/2022 09:07

Yes they are worth it, I've had mine for years (can't remember how many!), I live in them every summer and they are still in good condition.

ChaToilLeam · 28/06/2022 09:12

Yes, I love my Madrids. I have small
wide feet with a high arch and I find these super comfortable. Just got a new red patent pair 💕 They do come up large though. I have to wear a size 35 for them to fit correctly.

ohmylordylord · 28/06/2022 09:16

Yes! They're so comfy and last years I've had mine forever.

baxtersm · 28/06/2022 09:24

Any of you Birkenstock lovers any tips for how to stop them smelling?

DjoChateaux · 28/06/2022 09:24

I wear the M&S birka copy which are obviously much cheaper and I live in them!

They are very well made passion killers. Get Crocs instead.

And crocs aren't passion killers?

Don't get me wrong I have a pair of Crocs and love them, but they are hardly stylish. Also far too hot and sweaty for the summer months.

My daughters both have birkenstocks but the idea of "wearing them in" makes me wince.

Justthisonceharold · 28/06/2022 09:26

Don't do it OP. I got sucked into the hype on here and bought some. Theyare without question the most uncomfortable things I've ever put on my feet.

Justthisonceharold · 28/06/2022 09:27

And they make your feet smell - and my feet never normally smell.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 28/06/2022 09:27

I had some , years ago, but I kept getting foot farts.

Floralnomad · 28/06/2022 09:28

I always wear Birkies in the summer but I do think you need a certain type of foot to really get on with them . My daughter can’t get on with them at all .

Woollenfox · 28/06/2022 09:29

I had some but they didn’t fit well and hurt my foot.

I bought some copycats from Next and they’re perfect.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 28/06/2022 09:29

I don’t believe they are as good as they used to be. The cork my newer ones split after about 2 summers and the leather toe strap broke on another pair after a summer of wear.

Same - I actually love mine but they make my feet stink and then they stink..

EcoCustard · 28/06/2022 09:36

I have five pairs of Madrid Birkenstocks in different colours some 6/7 years old. I have worn them for 20+ years and love them, comfy and able to walk for miles. I have been getting lots of compliments on my Cognac big buckle ones this year. Worth the money to me. I have wide feet and a size 8 so I find they balance the size of my feet. I don’t like the super thin strappy sandals, or fitflops but it’s each to their own.

Carryonmarion · 28/06/2022 09:36

I love mine, wear them all the time and I like that boho meets geography teacher vibe they give. I knew I wanted some and bought cheaper in the winter sale ready for last summer. Iv'e got the ones in the pic above with the cross strap over the toe but in a neutral pearl colour. They go with most things.

Pruella · 28/06/2022 09:39

I have a black pair that I’ve had about 10 years and are very comfy. It’s definitely a foot shape thing though I know people who can’t wear them at all.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/06/2022 09:40

For me I only have the Papillios and Arizona Birkenstocks - but yes, they are worth the money - very comfy. However, one pair of the Papillios is comfier than the other!

There are a few different styles of Birkie too, not just the usual ones, which can be on the fugly side.

My mum swears by hers.

mscynical · 28/06/2022 09:41

I've got Birkenstocks and the imitation ones from TK Maxx (normally £15-18) and wear them all summer. I have just got some similar called Fruit Punch from Moshulu - www.moshulu.co.uk/womens-sandals?view_all=1 - they are also very, very comfortable.

StanleyBostitch · 28/06/2022 09:42

I've had many, many pairs over the years. I wear them to death through spring, summer and autumn, most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.
