Are birkenstocks worth the money?

Have seen a pair of birkenstocks that I love . Never had a pair but they are quite expensive for a sandal.

Are they worth the money?

Yes, try them on though. They generally come up quite big

SylviasMotherSaid · 27/06/2022 23:05

I would say so I have two pairs and they are extremely comfy and pretty much go with everything . I hadn’t heard of them until I saw some Mumsnetters recommending them on the style and beauty boards

NatriumChloride · 27/06/2022 23:06

Yes! They are! Very comfy and I live in mine from about April to September.
see if you can get a cheaper pair on eBay or Vinted though. Some might be brand new without tags or in very good condition.

Yes they are. Try the MacArthur Glen outlets for reduced prices?

They will last you years.

DeusInAbsentia · 27/06/2022 23:07

Not for me they weren’t. I bought into the hype a few years ago and they languish at the back of the wardrobe with the honour of being the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever owned.

Afonavon · 27/06/2022 23:09

They give me blisters, I prefer Fitflops

SlowHorses · 27/06/2022 23:13

Not worth the money. Had several pairs and also non-branded equivalents. I like the style, non-branded much cheaper and last/feel the same.

SummerPuddings · 27/06/2022 23:14

Yes. Totally live in them all summer.

kitcat15 · 27/06/2022 23:18

Love my 2 pairs…my old brown ones I’ve had 12 years ….walked miles in them….my newer one are purple with a big buckle…just beautiful ! I got both pairs from an outlet ….as a discontinued line so much cheaper…you need to size down though…they are big

Balloonsaresqueaky · 27/06/2022 23:19

Nooo they are so ugly!

AnnieSnap · 27/06/2022 23:22

I have two pairs and they are very comfortable and very robust. I bought them several years ago though and I wouldn’t buy them at their price now. I’m retired and don’t have as much money, but I’d think twice anyway. To those who have them, but find them uncomfortable, unlike Fitflops, Clarks etc, they do need serious breaking in! Birkenstocks themselves advise wearing them for just a short time each day until they have shaped themselves to your foot. So @DeusInAbsentia drag those bad boys out of your wardrobe and wear them for 20 minutes, gradually increasing the time until they are worn in 💪

midsomermurderess · 27/06/2022 23:23

I bought a pair during lockdown so didn't try them on first. I didn't understand the sizing and actually should have bought narrow as the ones I did buy were incredibly wide. I set the buckle at its narrowest, but they dug into and messed up my feet. I just don't wear them now. Lesson learned, try first.

supperlover · 27/06/2022 23:25

I've been wearing Birkenstocks for last 25 years, sandals in the summer, clogs as slippers and even have Birkenstock shoes and boots for the winter. I have foot problems and need arch support so find Birkenstocks very comfortable. You need to get used to them by only wearing for a short while at first. Do check your size with the print out chart on their website or, ideally, if you live near or visit London go to their store. The new soft step ones are particularly comfortable.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/06/2022 23:28

Yes

I had Tesco birkie-alikes once, really uncomfortable and didn’t last.
I now buy a pair of birkies every 5 years or so, and wear them from about May to September, and walk miles in them. They have never rubbed at all!

The4teddybears · 27/06/2022 23:34

I’m not being dramatic, but they changed my life. Every year in summer, especially on holiday In the heat , I struggled to find comfortable sandals for when my already wide feet swelled up. I then got a pair of Mayari in wide fit (see photo)
Heaven, absolute heaven ♥️

I’ve wore them all summer for the past 5 years. Totally comfortable and I can walk miles without them rubbing.
BUT, I also wear the standard 2 wide strap style and they rub . (So confined to slippers inside house )
so each style is different in my opinion.

Comfiest shoes ever for me, and never needed to break in a pair either. They do mould to the feet but I find them comfy from the start. Wonder if they are particularly suited to certain feet - mine are wide, flat, bony, buniony- if that’s you at all!! Grin

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 27/06/2022 23:35

I think so.

I bought a new pair last summer as the ones I’d had for about a decade were starting to be uncomfortable as the sole had worn down. Interesting that some say they need breaking in, I really didn’t find that.

You defo need to try them on, especially if you have narrow feet. Although having said that, they seem to have more in the narrow styles than not which is annoying for me who has the widest feet imaginable!

Twillow · 27/06/2022 23:37

They are my only summer shoe! Last a couple of years with heavy wear. Have bought copy styles but nowhere near as comfortable. They come in two widths so get the right one for you, the foot size is true.

creditslip · 27/06/2022 23:40

I have very blister prone skin - the vegan version will give me blisters - always. The leather version - sometimes at the beginning of the summer - even for a well worn pair. Are they worth it? Yes I eat them all year - indoors only in winter. I love them but they aren’t perfect - nothing is!

catfunk · 27/06/2022 23:40

I have 3 pairs Smile love them

The Mayaris are my favourites too, my feet swell up so attractively in the heat but these are so so comfy.

MissPeregrinesHome · 27/06/2022 23:49

Find them comfy. No one has mentioned that the soles can wear down. Mine do that after 2 summers. I have them resoled (just the section at the back) and they are good to go again. We have a good cobbler down the road.

AnyFucker · 27/06/2022 23:59

Every penny

Bunty55 · 28/06/2022 00:00

They are very well made passion killers. Get Crocs instead.

Isaidno22 · 28/06/2022 00:02

Yes. Mine have lasted for years. They are a bit like sandpaper at first so you need to break them in. Next do similar ones for half the price. They come up big so you might need to order down a size.
