Modern bands and artists who could be headlining Glastonbury in 40 - 60 years time

Paul McCartney is 80 and headlined last night - some 60 years after the Cavern Club. A bit like someone who started in 1902 appearing in 1962 as a headline act

So which modern acts do you think will be headlining in 50 years time? Just watching Diana Ross now (playing Baby Love from 1964) Still sounds good.

So a starter..Ed Sheeran? Still doing his stuff

Sorry...I am watching Diana Ross at Glastonbury on BBC1 right now and she is off key all the way through... really dire...
Dont know if it is a production issue or what, but it is awful!!!
She sounds as if she is talking the words...

RandomMess · 26/06/2022 19:03

It's horrific, truly horrific.

cakeorwine · 26/06/2022 19:05

Kind of missing the point !

Which artists do you think will be around in 50 years headlining?

There comes a point when people should just STOP!
It detracts from everything she has excelled at in the past...
Really sad.... sounds like a second rate pub karaoke....

And I loved Diana!!!

AreYouACheese · 26/06/2022 19:06

I think Alicia Keys would be a contender. That woman is fantastic.

Pedallleur · 26/06/2022 19:08

Sounded awful but the band were superb. Interesting there were no close ups of her. Always the camera was a distance away.

I can hear she is off key now.

But it's nice to see the audience singing along

No one out of the current crop will be there at 60 or 80. Springsteen or McCartney are on their own. Grohl might if his voice or heart holds out

megletthesecond · 26/06/2022 19:12

Coldplay will be there for years to come.
Arctic Monkeys probably.
Lady Gaga.

AnImaginaryCat · 26/06/2022 19:22

I'm sure there will be current artists around in 40 to 50 years. But hopefully they will not keep being wheeled out to perform whole sets, well after they stopped being able to perform.

This is effectively the first set of singers that have got to this stage. Lessons to be learnt!! These slots should really have belonged to someone "current". No problem with the "legends" still getting on stage, but not whole sets on thier own if they aren't up to it.

Lookingforrecommendations · 26/06/2022 19:28

She's not much older than Cher and I went to see her a few years ago and she was superb! Diana just hasn't got it anymore, and I say that as a huge fan. Her back up singers are amazing so saving it for her

Pedallleur · 26/06/2022 19:31

Holograms will be the thing. Artists captured in their prime

I agree with this. We are watching Diana Ross now - and as you say it's bad karaoke.

Her band and backing singers are really saving her.

I do think there comes a point where they need to stop singing live, if their vocals aren't up to it.

Haggisfish3 · 26/06/2022 19:34

Beyoncé, Ed Sheehan, Adele, oasis will get back together, Damon Albarn, Jarvis…

TidyDancer · 26/06/2022 19:38

Yeah Diana Ross has been terrible. She was painfully bad at the jubilee and from friends who saw her at the O2 she was just as awful there. Obviously got no better at Glastonbury. She was never the best singer (but like Madonna, big star without the greatest talent) but she should definitely stop now.

It's difficult to predict as far into the future as 40-60 years, I doubt many that are around now tbh. Agree with the suggestion of Dave Grohl lasting, but maybe not that long as he's not a baby now. Taylor Swift is a possibility if we're going for solo female.

We're watching this and just talking about this. You lose your voice as you grow older, Im only in my 50s but my voice is going already, very weak and thin and croaky, but the thing about her and Paul Mccartny who also cant sing for toffee these days, is that they are legends, their back catalogue and engagement with the crowd and professionalism and performance skills is part of the package.

YourWinter · 26/06/2022 19:42

Noel Gallagher is 55, Chris Martin is 45, I can’t imagine NGHFB or Coldplay doing Glastonbury in 50 years time! Ed Sheeran is 31 so maybe he’ll do a three hour set when he’s 81. God help us.

Alicia Keys is 41. Lady Gaga is 36 (born the same year as my eldest but always seems much older.

I don’t think Billie Eilish will have the Sunday slot on the Pyramid Stage in 50 years…

YourWinter · 26/06/2022 19:44

…Taylor Swift perhaps…

I will admit that I have just muted her on this one. It is quite painful

Comefromaway · 26/06/2022 19:46

Loved Ease on Down the Road but that was due to fab band & backing singers.

poor Diana, she needs to stop.

Do You Know is horrendous.

GoneForGoodies · 26/06/2022 20:04

Oasis, Noel and Liam will have kissed and made up in 40 years time... hopefully.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/06/2022 20:08

We turned over from Diana Ross. When you are a singer and can no longer sing, you should stop. She is speak-shouting the words and despite the best efforts of the backing singers cannot be saved. She looked like Big Bird in that first outfit and headdress.

Coldplay would be a possibility or Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 26/06/2022 20:12

Sam Fender.

They are comparing him to Bruce Springsteen. I think that he could last as long as him.

ShirleyJackson · 26/06/2022 20:15

I was very impressed with Sam Fender’s set.

leotardrock · 26/06/2022 20:19

I was at the Rolling Stones concert in Hyde Park last night! They were amazing!
