How much have you spent in supermarket this week?

We've spent £104.26 in 7 days. 2 adults, 1 toddler and 2 ungrateful swines cats. It's definitely too much money. We need to reign it in.

This includes food, toiletries and cat litter (which is bloody expensive.)
We did also have fish and chips yesterday which cost £13.70.

How much has everyone else spent this week? I'm just asking because I'm a nosy bugger.

(This thread isn't a brag or a gloat. I know many many families live on a lot less than me.)

£130 in Tesco 😔 2 Adults, 2 kids, 1 cat.
No booze but I did buy 4 electric toothbrush heads which were £12. The most expensive thing after that was 4 chicken fillets for £5.50.

It's ridiculous, I always scan while I shop so I can see it going up & up.

Passthetena · 26/06/2022 16:57

We spent £100 yesterday. Only 2 meals as well! We definitely got carried away with the bits and bobs but luckily can just about get away with a shop like that once a month. Usually though for 2 adults and a toddler we spend about £60 on a week's worth of food and snacks.

The last time I bought 4 toothbrush heads they were £10. A 20% increase Sad

Where do you shop? I'd love to get our food spend down to £60.
We do shop in Lidl but can't get everything we want there so go to Morrisons and usually Tesco as well.

£75 in Lidl for a weeks worth of food bar bread and milk top ups for 2 adults, 2 teenagers, 3 cats and a dog. Both kids have school dinners so that will also need paying for. We have 3 cheap teas a week (jacket pot and tuna, pasta and tomato sauce and cheese, frozen pizza.) The rest of the meals include things like chicken breast, diced beef etc. We are definitely not eating as well as we used to because of the cost.

OompaLoompaa · 26/06/2022 17:08

£360 4 adults

Nidan2Sandan · 26/06/2022 17:08

£150 in Tesco, but some of that will last a month. Things like a big box of 36 loo rolls for £13 and a months supply of crisps for lunch boxes.

Still need to get a few more bits from Aldi, but again I'll buy a months worth.

Still, my weekly shops will average £80‐£100.

Prisonbreak · 26/06/2022 17:09

£42 in Tesco. 2 adults. Will likely top up bread, milk and veg mid week

Yorkshireteabags · 26/06/2022 17:12

£32 1 adult, 2 kids, cat

alwaysmovingforwards · 26/06/2022 17:15

It varies as I tend to bulk buy sone things, but average is about £100/wk I reckon.

Onlyrainbows · 26/06/2022 17:17

£105 family of 6 (plus cat). I even got some brothers cider!

ThatsGoingToHurt · 26/06/2022 17:18

£105 for 2 adults and 2 kids. I did buy some wellies for DS and done nail varnish remover. I basically bought some household bits and bobs, fruit, veg, stuff for kids packed lunches and a £3.50 of Ben and Jerry’s for DH. I didn’t and meat apart from some bacon as I wanted to check what had in the cupboard first so I’ve only got about 2/3 meals!

Thighdentitycrisis · 26/06/2022 17:21

£24.50 in cribs and drabs but 7.00 of that was face cream. However I will need a big shop tomorrow

CandyLeBonBon · 26/06/2022 17:22

£196 but that's replacing all my cleaning products, topping up toiletries, dog food etc and that will probably last 2 weeks with maybe a small fresh produce top up in a week. I generally spend about £450 a month for 3 teens plus me and oh if he's staying for dinner. I have eldest stuff home all day so need stuff for him for daytime as well. I get milk cheese and eggs delivered.

SnotsGotTheBoobies · 26/06/2022 17:23

I just said on another thread, I spent £176 at sainsburys last week! That’s for 2 adults 2 kids and a cat. I did buy 2x bottles of wine and a crate of Estella. But that was eye wateringly expensive. I’m going to go to Aldi from now on. I did a weeks shop there this week which only came to £74! Kids don’t like the food (snacks, crisps, cereals etc) there much, but they need to get used to it, as £176 per week is just wayyyyy to much!

namechange496829 · 26/06/2022 17:25

Very similar to you OP! 2 adults 2 young DC and 2 cats! I do an online food shop and try to keep it to £70. However just been to Asda and spent a £30 top up. So I don't know why I bother with the £70 limit Confused

Autumn101 · 26/06/2022 17:26

About £125 in Tesco for 2 adults, 1 teen, 1 pre-teen. I buy food monthly for cat and dog which is about £75.

I also spent about £60 in the butchers.

We average about £200 a week, it’s gone up a lot!

Spaghag · 26/06/2022 17:27

£60 in Aldi yesterday. That did include a few teas/dinners but we do have quite a bit in the freezer & cupboard still so it wasn't a big shop. We didn't need any cat food or laundry stuff this week either which helps.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 26/06/2022 17:27

£349. For 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 children. Way too much. This is from Tesco.

Icequeen01 · 26/06/2022 17:27

We spent £307 this week for 3 adults! However, DS currently works for Tesco and once a month they get 15% discount instead of the usual 10%. This meant we saved (along with club card offers) just over £60 so it actually "only" cost £243. We buy a month's worth of everything except fresh fruit and veg and meat (I prefer Sainsbury's meat to Tesco anyway). This means when I do my usual weekly shop at Sainsbury's I will only spend around £50. This has helped me stay within my monthly food shopping budget.

RadFad · 26/06/2022 17:30

£123 for 2 adults, 2 DC (youngest is a toddler).
That's £80 in Aldi and £43 in Tesco. I got paid on Friday so first shop of month is always higher as I buy all toiletries, cleaning, washing stuff and some extra fish/meat to freeze for the month.

Also spent £35 on months cat food online for 3 cats. This was a cheap as I get their dry food once every 3 months.

MintJulia · 26/06/2022 17:31

£32 on food for one adult, one child. I've plenty of store cupboard stuff so this was mostly fresh fruit & veg, meat and fish.

IncessantNameChanger · 26/06/2022 17:33

£55 for a family of six no pets.

I'm meal planning, using up what's in the freezer, all cleaning things bought at Costco.

Without loo roll, washing liquid, conditioner etc I can live off around £80 per week if I get just meals and fruit. So no drinks, no snacks no yogurts etc. 3 of the kids have free dinners at school. No choice right now as paying off my overdraft.

I could easily spend £100 a week but I'm going to be as frugal as I can for the foreseeable.

hollowwallow · 26/06/2022 17:34

£180 for four adults. All meals but we might get a takeaway later in the week one night. About £20 of this was booze. Fairly average amount.

mamaduckbone · 26/06/2022 17:37

Bloody loads.
£107 in Lidl on Saturday for a week's worth of meals for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. That includes lunches for 3 of us as ds16 has finished exams so will be around eating everything . We did buy a lot of meat and some will go in the freezer (mince to batch cook bolognaise and a large pack of chicken breasts to separate.)
That's no booze though and we're having a takeaway for one meal.
