How much have you spent in supermarket this week?

We've spent £104.26 in 7 days. 2 adults, 1 toddler and 2 ungrateful swines cats. It's definitely too much money. We need to reign it in.

This includes food, toiletries and cat litter (which is bloody expensive.)
We did also have fish and chips yesterday which cost £13.70.

How much has everyone else spent this week? I'm just asking because I'm a nosy bugger.

(This thread isn't a brag or a gloat. I know many many families live on a lot less than me.)

How in earth are people spending £300 a week?!

2 adults, 1 child and 1 toddler here and we do about £90 a week

DelilahBucket · 26/06/2022 20:58

I made some major cut backs this week as well as clearing the cupboards a bit and I spent £76 for two adults and a teen, to cover lunches for two of us as well. I didn't have to buy any cleaning supplies or toiletries with that shop which always helps. I also spent a further £11 on the toiletries side of things and £25 at the butcher but that is for two weeks. Got a bottle of wine and 8 cans of beer for DH in that lot so quite pleased this week.
I have been easily spending £150 a week all in. I don't normally get a breakdown of the butcher's order as I preorder and then just collect later in the day, but I did last time and it opened my eyes. Gone for much cheaper cuts of meat this week and smaller amounts. I'd still rather go to the butcher and eat less as I know where it all comes from and the quality is far superior to the supermarket.

I don’t know really why my bill is so high (£1500 per month) and we eat out a lot and have a takeaway once a week.

I'm wondering this too! We don't scrimp and have whatever we fancy really, but £100 a week would be a seriously expensive shop for us!

motogirl · 26/06/2022 21:19

Not much, been away for the weekend - £25 perhaps, but I've spent £100 on food out

OnceBitten25 · 26/06/2022 21:21

@MissCalamity you can buy a pack of four electric toothbrush heads for £1 in Tesco in the £1 aisle if you shop in a biggish store. Apologies if anyone has already said. They are so expensive!

DrunkenKoala · 26/06/2022 21:23

£140 on a sainsbury’s delivery this morning - food, toiletries but no alcohol. Will probably spend £25 on milk, bread, fruit and veg and alcohol.

D0lphine · 26/06/2022 21:28

£38 mostly in Aldi. A few quid in Tesco for rogue ingredients they didn't have. 2 adults no kids.

I did a meal plan that's mostly vegetarian and have spent a few hours meal prepping this evening.

I don't think everyone has the ability or time to cook ahead like this. It's fucking hard work to be honest with you!! It's the only way we have of keeping costs reasonable though, so needs must.

Meal plan is this:
Breakfast and lunch are the same every day.
Breakfast - Wheetabix and milk
Lunch - lentil and carrot soup and cheese toastie

Dinners:
Veggie Dahl https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/slowcookerrsplitpeaa93320
Chicken thighs with roasted potatoes and butternut squash
Spaghetti and sausages
Pasta carbonara
Sweet potato curry and rice www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/lentil-sweet-potato-curry
Stir fry and noodles
Chilli con carne and rice

D0lphine · 26/06/2022 21:29

Oh and fruit and yoghurt
for snacks.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 26/06/2022 21:34

Just under £90 for 2 adults, but stocked up on washing powder, toiletries, etc

DinkBoo · 26/06/2022 21:46

£27 in Aldi last Monday, for 2 adults, food only. I had to go alone walking there and back so it limits the amount I could get. Offically I bought 3 days worth of meals and extra veg, but I've had an uninspired cooking week, so still quite a bit of veg left. DH bought his massive weekly fruit shop separately, and we were out for food last night. I've been feeling very uninspired cooking wise for a while.

Caramac555 · 26/06/2022 22:08

2 adults, 1 teen, 1 x 10 year old with hollow legs.

About 160 this week including two bottles of wine (12 quid) and about 30 pounds worth of toiletries and cleaning/laundry products. All of this was spent in lidl and home bargains so not higher end shops

mac1974 · 27/06/2022 09:19

We've spent a lot this week. I get a shop from Thurs - Thurs and I've nothing for tea tonight. I honestly don't know where it's gone. Spent £120 on the main shop (usually about £90) then we've done a top up for fruit. Still I'm on emergency burgers tonight. I'm usually quite good at meal planning so not sure why it's gone wrong this week. Payday tomorrow thankfully.

DinkBoo · 27/06/2022 17:22

£60 in Aldi today, for 8 days worth of main meals (for 2 adults). We'll need more vegetables in a few days.

DH was shocked at the bill, and it's only about three weeks since he last came to the shop.

Crazyhousewife · 27/06/2022 17:51

1 adult 2 kids and home educating so my food shop is always high. I think I’ve spent close to 200 but I placed a large order for American foods(luxury one off) which was about the same price as the supermarket cereals and some snacks cheaper. I priced up my bill with the same items to before April and my shopping bill has gone up by over 30.00. It might not seem like much but it’s really adding up.

specialk9 · 27/06/2022 17:57

£236 Ocado 2 Adults, 2 children, 1 baby + 1 dog.
But that did include a lunch we hosted and some extra wine/beer.

We average £175 per week including nappies, wipes, formula, dog food, toiletries and cleaning products.

Ringmaster27 · 27/06/2022 18:02

I wrote up my meal plan yesterday that runs Sunday - Sunday. Wrote my list for all those dinners, lunchbox stuff, fruit, snacks, a few toiletry items, laundry detergent, bread, milk, nappies etc.
I spent £48 in Aldi.
(1 adult and 3 kids)

Kite22 · 27/06/2022 18:04

£65 today. 4 adults.

goldfinchonthelawn · 27/06/2022 18:05

I've spent about £75 and DH has probably spent the same. There's just two of us but that included bulk buying of some stuff on special offer, filling the frezer and quite a few preswents for an upcoming birthday (wine, flowers, cakes, snacks etc)

yourestandingonmyneck · 27/06/2022 18:17

Sainsburys, £180 Confused but that did include nappies, expensive shampoo and conditioner, two kiddies birthday presents and two bottles of (cheap) wine, which were also gifts.

It's too much though and I'm hoping next weeks will be cheaper to make up for it.

The price hikes are very noticeable though.

Hugasauras · 27/06/2022 18:23

£135 today for four of us Sad although granted there's a lot of convenience food in there as I've just had a baby!

Branster · 27/06/2022 18:23

£71 today. But it's only Monday and it was for strictly items we use regularly and have completely run out of.
By the end of Sunday I expect for this to double. Very annoying
No alcohol, pet food or cigarettes included in the weekly shop(s).

Hugasauras · 27/06/2022 18:25

I actually went through and checked receipts from this time two years ago against some of the regular items we get and everything has gone up noticeably. An average of 20-30p per item I checked and in some cases the size/weight has also gone down a bit Sad

newtb · 27/06/2022 18:25

124€ this morning, and I'm still in a state of shock.
