How much have you spent in supermarket this week?

We've spent £104.26 in 7 days. 2 adults, 1 toddler and 2 ungrateful swines cats. It's definitely too much money. We need to reign it in.

This includes food, toiletries and cat litter (which is bloody expensive.)
We did also have fish and chips yesterday which cost £13.70.

How much has everyone else spent this week? I'm just asking because I'm a nosy bugger.

(This thread isn't a brag or a gloat. I know many many families live on a lot less than me.)

Two adults, two dogs (but their food comes from a local farm shop).
Roughly £70, £40 in Sainsbury's and £30 in Lidl.

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/06/2022 18:31

£44.00 today in Aldi. One adult and one 11 year old who eats me out of house and home. That is our usual shop with meals and packed lunches for 6 days as I already have a chicken in the freezer for Sunday. I did spend £4.00 on massively reduced items at our local shop yesterday, think tempura mini fillets for 30p, that sort of thing. I didn't buy any laundry or cleaning stuff this week.

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/06/2022 18:31

Oh and that included a weeks worth of cat food.

How in earth are people spending £300 a week?!

2 adults, 1 child and 1 toddler here and we do about £90 a week

Partly it's because I've got two DC just home from university, they're used to having independence and buying their own food so they've been buying in things they want but using my account, plus they have friends/partners over regularly so we're often feeding 7-10 people.
I mostly buy meat from the butchers which is expensive, shop a lot at M&S because it's convenient, DH is a terrible snacker so I'm often having to replace foods he's eaten that I need later in the week, I hate doing a big shop too so do loads of smaller ones which isn't economical.
Food is our biggest expense above all other bills.

Cherrysoup · 27/06/2022 18:51

£45 top up on veg/salad/lunch stuff. £70 on petrol.

Amid · 27/06/2022 19:00

Hard to tell really. I get loo roll delivered in bulk, washing powder from a delivery company, coffee.pods from amazon.

Tescos delivery this week was £80 but that's only for breakfast for myself and maybe 4 dinners for myself and my son. Normally do a top up for £20 - £30 plus we eat out a couple of times a week.

livingthegoodlife · 27/06/2022 19:53

£45 at Lidl for 2 adults, 1 teen, 2 middle aged kids.

But I bulk buy sausages & clothes detergent at cash & carry.

We eat "ok"

Spatchcock chicken, salad & coleslaw
Cucumber soup & dips & bread
Chilli beef & rice
Sausage casserole
Frozen pizza
Omelette & salad
Beans on toast

Breakfast is cereal & toast & eggs

Lunch = sandwiches, fruit, small cake.

couchparsnip · 28/06/2022 20:39

£184. Bloody hell. Counting up all the costs this week was scary. It was DHs birthday and DS's GF's 16th at the weekend so bought extras like cards, cake and bits like that. Plus DS finished at school so there was a special dinner for that. All adds up quickly.

I wrote up my meal plan yesterday that runs Sunday - Sunday. Wrote my list for all those dinners, lunchbox stuff, fruit, snacks, a few toiletry items, laundry detergent, bread, milk, nappies etc.
I spent £48 in Aldi.
(1 adult and 3 kids)

Wow, that's good. What dinners are you having?

Home bargains do 4 perfectly good toothbrush heads for £4, same but unbranded.

I would be interested to see a shopping list for this as I don’t see how it’s possible to feed 5 people 3 meals a day for £45pw even with bulk buying sausages and detergent.

LargeLegoHaul · 28/06/2022 21:46

£230 (normally £200-250 per week) for 2 or 3 adults and 3 secondary aged DS’s, including all food, toiletries, cleaning products and some free from foods.

chickma · 28/06/2022 21:51

I spent around £40 yesterday, just on fruit, veg, bits for the kids lunchboxes, milk, bread. Nothing for evenings meals, we're trying to use up what we have in the cupboards and freezer, will make for some odd meals but we're waiting for pay day!

We had to spend over £400 on car repairs last week, both kids needed new trainers, and we put £90 worth or petrol in the car (didn't even fill the tank!) So, we're trying to be careful for a while!!

Nononoandno · 28/06/2022 22:08

today I worked it out… I’ve spent £560 since 1st June….just me and my 18 year old son …he has 4 evening meals, my fridge feels bare too…. He’s off to uni in September. I’m completely broke. My partner stays with us most weekends and he contributes a bit… but I really need to do some proper meal planning cos it’s just ridiculous. My heart goes out to families with more mouths to feed 😟.

IncessantNameChanger · 28/06/2022 23:14

I have just added up all of my food shopping for the month from the 1st and its 267.93

I really need to run things down in the freezer so I hope it's less next month. I really dont spend much on food at all

Eastie77Returns · 29/06/2022 09:59

£76 in Tesco. Family of four and I think that will last us about 4-5 days We recently moved and DC have a new childminder who provides their tea/evening meal. This has been an absolute godsend and has significantly reduced our shopping bill. She charges a bit more than our old CM but my goodness it’s worth it.

I do visit Lidl for specific items - I love their Salmon, cheese selections and their promos like Spanish week - but cannot get on with fruit, veg or meat so don’t tend to do a big shop there. When DC were tiny I found their nappies and other baby items were brilliant value.

I can plan and budget all I want but Lidl themed week will throw a spanner in the works and I come home with lots of random French/Spanish/Greek food Grin

£113 in Morrisons
£97 in Iceland
£78 in Asda
No toiletries or cleaning products in any of them. Just food, drink and pet food.
Two adults with two cats and two dogs.

Nononoandno · 29/06/2022 15:48

I’m afraid so :(
the impact is even noticed in the loo roll usage (demolishes a pack of 24 rolls per week) he does have hay-fever though, I’m expecting my bills to reduce massively when he goes to uni …so in my food and water bills. His uni food card will be £47 per week for 3 meals per day. My water meter bill is £120 per month for the two of us currently. I expect that to drop to about £30 just for me. He’s going to save me money by going to uni 😱I am going to help him out a bit thou with expenses but no way I’m giving him beer money

coffeecupsandfairylights · 29/06/2022 15:57

£74.38 in Tesco. Two adults and three cats.

I buy the dogs' food separately on subscription. It probably comes to £100 a week all-in.

What on earth are you eating? Pheasant and champagne for breakfast??

LegInLegOut · 30/06/2022 07:23

@D0lphine I wish. The Morrisons one is mainly food and drink, the Iceland one is mainly the frozen food and the Asda one is mainly pet food.

ElephantsFart · 30/06/2022 07:39

Less than £20 per week but that’s because It is cheaper to get fresh things delivered - large organic fruit and veg box (£25), dairy products and bread (£15), meat (£25), then no one is tempted by extras that we don’t need such as biscuits on trips to the supermarket.

I go supermarket shopping for cat food and store cupboard food once a month and spend around £75. And I get a huge who gives a crap loo roll delivery every few months. I looked into getting the rest delivered as well but it was significantly more expensive. All in all spend about £85 for two adults and two teens plus cat. That’s most meals from scratch but a lot of vegetarian meals.

Limesarebitter · 30/06/2022 12:54

2 adults, 2 teens, 1 child and I spent £135 in Aldi. It included some meat and lots of snacks/bottles of drink for a weekend camping which we don't usually buy.
