Any fellow coeliacs want to wallow in self pity with me about discontinued products

I don't buy a lot of specific gluten free products, mostly as a lot aren't worth the expense. But through trial and error there are a few things I'd get so I'm especially sad that my favourite gluten free pizza that I used to get for the freezer for a quick meal when I'm feeling lazy has been discontinued.

Gone the same way as Genius Pain Au Chocolat, Costa gluten free wraps and countless others

@Tomnooktoldmeto - I can't see anything other than margherita and pepperoni on Asda's website. We don't have an Asda close by but I'm prepared to make a trip if they do anything interesting topping wise.

Asdas own brand gf pizzas are one of the few products I've ever put in the bin, awful.
I've took to stocking up whenever i am near a morrisons with a pizza counter for interesting toppings, fairly rare though as the nearest ones to me don't have one 😭

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2022 08:57

I agree with the withdrawn products.

Although I'm celebrating the new Kirsty kitchen sweet chilli chicken pizza. 😋

Loads of GF stuff is becoming dairy free too. I can't eat gluten; I still want bloody cheese!

I do add more cheese on my GF pizza - can't deny that!

A pizza just is t a pizza without proper cheese Grin

megletthesecond · 26/06/2022 09:09

Kirstys kitchen would be great if they did more vegetarian products.

notapizzaeater · 26/06/2022 09:18

@pastabest sainsurys do a new fab chocolate coated orange biscuit - I've stopped buying them as they evaporate almost overnight 🤣🤣🤣

notapizzaeater · 26/06/2022 09:21

I dint get the pizzas made up from the counter in Morrisons, far too much cross contamination but I do buy the bases from there, they are about £1.10 each and I grab them 6 at a time and Bob them in the freezer.

I'm looking into a posh pizza oven for the garden and using the posh gf flour 😁.

Natsku · 26/06/2022 09:31

@pastabest I got the chocolate orange enrobed biscuits the other day. My word, they are amazing!

I'm in the UK on holiday right now and amazed at the gluten free selection, it's so much better than Finland now (which used to be better than the UK). Every time I go to the shop I want to buy everything. Did notice very little choice in the frozen pizzas though.

Can I please have recommendations for the best bread anyone? My mum is not keen on many of the breads so mostly eats the schar stuff I can get back home and I want to try different breads.

Mariposa80 · 26/06/2022 09:36

So for sandwiches/burgers I like the Warburtons soft rolls

GF chicken Kiev seems to have disappeared again. M&S GF fruit cake. I had hoped they’d bring it back after Christmas when they the iced one out. M&S GF chicken Caesar wrap. In fact most of their wraps, you used to be able to get about 3 varieties, down to 1 now.

M&S have been the worst for reducing the GF offerings in favour of vegan stuff.

I miss the genius pain au chocolat, Schar frozen ones are ok.

Natsku · 26/06/2022 09:41

I've been having those so far, they are nice but getting bored of them now. Got another 4 weeks here, lots of bread sampling to do!

BuffyFairy · 26/06/2022 09:42

jd88123 · 26/06/2022 00:14

@MaMariposa80 thanks but I'm highly sceptical they are as good as the tesco ones were. Been a good couple years now since they've been gone. They probably had too many calories per cookie! I will try them though on my hunt for biscuit heaven.

Do try the Lidl deluxe ones. They do a white chocolate and cranberry one too. Both delicious.

Iwantthesummersun · 26/06/2022 09:45

Tesco mini breadsticks. DD loved them and isn’t so keen on the schar version. Haven’t seen them for months locally.

The schar ones have a lot of soya flour in and give me a headache AND a stomach ache

They also dry your mouth out they are just dusty and not nice

M&S did an amazing gluten free millionaires shortbread, which they've stopped doing.

And years ago I used to be able to get gf pink wafer biscuits, but I can't find them now?

I thought I saw that two weeks ago in an M and S motorway service station.

megletthesecond · 25/06/2022 23:36

Amys Kitchen has stopped selling in the UK.
I just about coped when their breakfast burrito vanished. Now the whole lot has gone.
M&S have gone downhill for GF too.

All I ask for is veggie GF food.

Maid Morrisons have just bought out a frozen GF mac 'n' cheese. IMO it is as good as Amy's.

Our M and S does a gluten free mac 'n' cheese its not bad obviously not as good as the real thing but definitely ok.

Haudyourwheesht · 26/06/2022 22:02

We use the schar pizza bases and make our own pizzas.

Carolenarua · 28/06/2022 07:03

I wondered why Amy's couldn't be found anymore. I used to eat Asda & Waitrose own brand cereals as per the coeliac UK book but they stopped listing them as gluten free. The recipes didn't change just they wanted them to put gluten free on label or something, what cereals do people use ? I've tried so many specially gluten free ones that were horrible I had to throw out.

gerispringer · 28/06/2022 07:13

I can’t see the Waitrose sourdough GF bread any more.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 28/06/2022 07:18

Agree about the vegan pizzas, I scrape some cheese off and replace with proper cheese and my own topping. Or make some from wraps for a very thin base. CoOp do a nice triple chocolate cookie.

Going back a few years M&S did a guten free berry crumble and a large chocolate fudge dessert which you heated up and the whole family loved it. Very almondy with a chocolate sauce which came out when hot. All disappeared when they changed the branding of the packets.

MissMarpleRocks · 28/06/2022 07:35

M&S used to do a lovely apple pie as well. Haven’t seen it for a while.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/06/2022 07:42

gerispringer · 28/06/2022 07:13

I can’t see the Waitrose sourdough GF bread any more.

It was in the shop ten days ago.

Tasted like damp cardboard, though.

Suddha · 28/06/2022 10:58

Lots of gluten free has been discontinued and replaced by vegan. Supermarkets obviously think both types of food occupy the same “fad diet” shelf so they have to get rid of one in order to offer the other. The remaining gluten free products now tend to be dairy free too. As if they didn’t taste shitty enough already because they’re gluten free, now they’ve taken away the dairy too! I fondly remember M&S gluten free trifle with real cream on top, and a cornetto type thing which contained real ice cream. Nowadays I struggle to find gf items which aren’t also dairy free.

JubileeTrifle · 28/06/2022 15:52

My daughters dietician specifically tells her she has to eat a high dairy diet as they are worried about bone density. We don’t want dairy bloody free.

Phrenologistsfinger · 29/06/2022 19:33

As a vegan gf person, I want dairy free! But they should provide for both ideally. Maybe the forthcoming wheat shortages will change things…?

Also, why is wheat in everything even when there’s no need. So annoying!
