Any fellow coeliacs want to wallow in self pity with me about discontinued products

I don't buy a lot of specific gluten free products, mostly as a lot aren't worth the expense. But through trial and error there are a few things I'd get so I'm especially sad that my favourite gluten free pizza that I used to get for the freezer for a quick meal when I'm feeling lazy has been discontinued.

Gone the same way as Genius Pain Au Chocolat, Costa gluten free wraps and countless others

No pizza counter unfortunately, was extra annoying as I'd made a trip there especially for pizza, passing two other closer supermarkets.

It looks like they've rebranded a lot of their gluten free stuff so not sure if there are other casualties.

Spring rolls have come back at M&S.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/06/2022 22:29

I'm mourning the almost complete absence of Aunt Bessie's oven chips in every supermarket within walking distance of home - Sainsburys, Tescos, the Co-op, Waitrose - every single one is only stocking sodding McCain's.

I'd just like to have chips once a fortnight without having to make a large online order, find space in the freezer with all the other ingredients we have to buy because standard supermarket stuff is out of the question, or travel past approximately 9 supermarkets in any direction in the vague hope of finding chips that are edible in a freezer cabinet somewhere.

It's probably just as well for my waistline, but I really miss some of the ginger biscuits that used to be available before "gluten-free oats" were developed. There's no way I'm risking oats, having confirmed that my mother and sister both react to these (when I told my mother about oats being in more GF products she realised why she'd had some unexplained reactions).

Tomnooktoldmeto · 25/06/2022 23:09

@Mariposa80 have you tried the Asda frozen ones? We also kept the Morrisons ones in for the teens but they actually prefer the Asda ones now

M&S still do the Millionaires shortbread, perhaps it branch specific but I’ve bought them very recently in our larger branch

we’re loving having waffle ice cream cones back in Asda and Tesco this year and onion rings. Small victories but oh so good

@NeverDropYourMooncup we eat Tesco frozen chips in this house, have you tried them?

OnlyTheBravest · 25/06/2022 23:31

I quite M & S but they keep discontinuing products. Spring rolls, samosas, the lemon cheesecake and I have not been able to get the chicken nuggets for a while. Since the Plant kitchen arrived I have noticed this more.

OnlyTheBravest · 25/06/2022 23:35

But have managed to track down my fave dessert, which Sainsbury's no longer stock from Ocado instead.

Gluten Free Kitchen Vegan Apple Crumble

JubileeTrifle · 25/06/2022 23:36

Not for me but for DD. Those pink wafer biscuits.
also suddenly struggling to find Nairn cheese crackers - it’s suddenly oatcakes everywhere.

megletthesecond · 25/06/2022 23:36

Amys Kitchen has stopped selling in the UK.
I just about coped when their breakfast burrito vanished. Now the whole lot has gone.
M&S have gone downhill for GF too.

All I ask for is veggie GF food.

Maid Morrisons have just bought out a frozen GF mac 'n' cheese. IMO it is as good as Amy's.

Phrenologistsfinger · 25/06/2022 23:59

Vegan and gf so I am glad of the changes! But I do miss the Sainburys fresh loaves, not found any as good since.

Phrenologistsfinger · 26/06/2022 00:00

Also, Amy’s noooo! Can we all club together and do a bulk import from the US?

HDready · 26/06/2022 00:04

I agree re Co-op - their party food range last Christmas was so disappointing. Felt they had entirely abandoned gf in favour of vegan.

ChocAuVin · 26/06/2022 00:13

Yes to Pink Wafer biscuits and Amy’s Kitchen Sad

jd88123 · 26/06/2022 00:14

@MaMariposa80 thanks but I'm highly sceptical they are as good as the tesco ones were. Been a good couple years now since they've been gone. They probably had too many calories per cookie! I will try them though on my hunt for biscuit heaven.

Isaidnoalready · 26/06/2022 00:15

The oat invasion is what's boiling my stomach right now YES they are "gluten free" tell my stomach that please it is NOT HAPPY

The two local Tesco's only do McCain's. Higher markup and all that.

Amy’s kitchen no longer export to the UK. Their Rice Mac and Cheese was my guilty pleasure!

Oh ffs that's why I can't find it anymore!!!! My toddler loves it Sad

britneyisfree · 26/06/2022 01:08

@QuebecBagnet but caputo flour seems to contain gluten?

I'd been wondering why I hadn't been able to get it recently 😭

MissMarpleRocks · 26/06/2022 04:03

M&S lemon drizzle cake. Those piddly lemon slices are not the same.

They have a fully gluten free one.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 26/06/2022 06:51

Same here in Ireland lots of things not on shelves and the health shops so expensive. I order a few times a year from Denise's bakery in Cork and can get lovely big trays of choc brownies and little cakes. All delicious and do lovely hampers.

houseofboy · 26/06/2022 07:39

Gf husband finding it increasingly frustrated how many products are now dairy free/ vegan as well in our house they are affectionately known as fun free products!! Pizza is the worst for it, finding one that isn't vegan and gluten free is so hard.
