I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Miss at the moment I feel 100% better than the wheezing 80 yo who staggered in here just over 3 weeks ago. They drained around 5ltr (8Imp pints) from my chest cavity and about a litre from my pancreas. Great to see you're putting plans in place for your Ds's graduation celebration, they sound well deserved.

Hilda, the only things I needed were my laptop and a few changes of clothes. But he brought a book too, so everything is tickety boo. Plus my kids get to visit today as their schedules all align so...

Prok, your evening sounds wonderful, just the sort of thing I'd like to do. You all souund so unexciting (apart from that) that I feel almost back to normal.

My best wishes to you all.

HildaTablet · 16/07/2022 11:40

Well if it helps at all DoctorTwo, I’m currently sitting in a motorway services carpark eating a sandwich (brought from home because I’m too mean to pay the inflated prices here) and watching a pick-up truck winch a broken-down car up onto its ramp.

How’s that for boring?!

I hope the recovery keeps pace and you feel better soon.

MissConductUS · 16/07/2022 16:52

Happy Birthday Prok. Your night out sounds lovely.

I'm glad you're on the mend, DoctorTwo. Did they tell you what caused so much fluid to accumulate?

Hilda, a pickup truck is an entirely different type of vehicle in the US. What you're describing, we'd call a tow truck. Every day is a schooldays on MN.

Attached are the regular Saturday pictures of the floral planter, which is now taller than I am. That's DH's new Weber grill. If you look at the side view, there is a frog on the grill to the left of the temperature gauge. After I took the picture, the frog hopped down to the deck, where I took a close-up of it.

To be fair, MissC, you are right and I’m wrong! It was a tow truck, but I suspect in my youth approximately a million years ago we knew them as pick-up trucks because they, er, picked broken-down cars up 😂😂

The things that are now called pick-up trucks (ie big cars with tailgates), which the Australians know as 'utes', were entirely outside our experience in my corner of the UK. Those were innocent days….!

Plastichanger · 16/07/2022 21:46

Happy Birthday, Prok

I am so sorry to hear of your health problems Dr and hope it’s the news you hope for on the 18th.

mathanxiety · 17/07/2022 04:51

DoctorTwo it sounds as if you saw the consultant in the nick of time Shock
I hope you're on the mend and that they understand what's going wrong.

Prok - best wishes for a very happy year ahead. Your birthday outing sounds wonderful.

MissC your deck looks wonderful, and I am envious of your frog friend. I'm in a second floor apartment so we get lots of birds and the occasional squirrel but none of the adorable little chipmunks or anything else that prefers to stay at ground level.

I refilled the hummingbird feeder this morning and emptied plant saucers into a watering can as we had a lot of rain yesterday.

I made lasagna on Thursday thanks to milder weather and we're still eating our way through it. Looks like I'll be cooking again on Tuesday at this rate. Temps will be in the 90s so we may have to haul out the instant pot.

DoctorTwo · 17/07/2022 09:25

Well MissC, math et al, (Creon 25000) needs to be in front of me instead of being locked in a nurse controlled cabinet only to be opened at sanctioned drug giving out times, namely 0600, 1000, 1400, 1800 and 2200, with them doling out one capsule expecting me to take it there and then. None of those times are when I eat, which is when I need to take Creon, the amount of whicch depends on how much fat and protein is consumed.

For example, this morning I awoke a 0500 and drank a glass of tepid water before devouring a granola bar (1 Creon) at 0545. at around 0810 I ate a bowl of porridge (i Creon), I am now drinking a 200ml shake made from powder and whole milk (1 Creon). I am running short on Creon and they are not recording the amount I take.

My solution is simple; leave the creon, a piece of paper and a pen with me and I can accurately report back what I take at what time. They want me to go and ask for a tablet each and every time thus allowing my food to get cold. What is the point? A little common sense and we can all be happy. They 'get' it but the nurse will not relinquish this sort of power to a patient who has spent two years getting his dosage coreect for him.

This is one power dynamic that I must win, otherwise it means pain and lost weight for me. And they will blame me. Arseholes should listen for once.

MissConductUS · 17/07/2022 14:16

DoctorTwo, your nurse has to give you the medication at whatever intervals the doctor prescribed. In most cases, the nurse must watch you take it and record the time and dosage. Speak to your doctor and ask to have the instruction changed to AC (ante cibum) which means "before meals".

OP posts:
DoctorTwo · 17/07/2022 19:07

Well, a small victory here. About 90 minutes ago the nurse came along to make my supplemental milk shake and asked why I hadn't drunk the previous one. I pointed out that it needed to be taken with Creon and I had run out, so an entire bottle has been placed on my table for me to use at will.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/07/2022 19:37

Doctor Some patients like you can handle the responsibility, others need supervision.

DD and I went to visit Museum Village Düppel and had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Especially about perma culture and responsible use of resources.

MissConductUS · 17/07/2022 21:54

That's good to hear, DoctorTwo. Do you have any idea how much longer they're going to keep you in hospital?

Prok, that looks fascinating. Five Euros is very reasonable for entry too. We have similar reconstructions of colonial-era villages here. There's one near me called Philipsburg Manor. There's a much larger, more elaborate one in Massachusetts called Sturbridge Village.

DS returned from Boston, a bit knackered from the drive, about five hours.

The heat wave in the UK and Europe is on the news here. It's been hot here too, but nothing abnormal for July.

We're about to do our weekly zoom call with DD and MIL, then chicken and steak on the grill for dinner. DH may take over the cooking since DS is tired.

Morning all,
What a lot to catch up on. Been in Wales again and having a screen break.
Hope you get good news today DoctorTwo and belated Happy birthday Prok.
Done lots of sea swimming and sleeping, noticed on Fitbit this morning that my resting heart rate has dropped by 4 beats.
Sadly, about to set off home to "real life" 😢

HildaTablet · 18/07/2022 11:02

That museum village looks fascinating, Prok. Glad you’ve been having a good birthday week with plenty of enjoyable things to do.

It’s hot here but not as bad as in the South-East. I’ve escaped to more Northern climes, but on the downside I’m in a house that is full of workmen and has no floors downstairs. This makes life perhaps a bit too exciting for this thread 🥴

DoctorTwo · 18/07/2022 13:50

Thatmuseum Iis just the sort of thing I love Prok, contrary to popular belief I love learning about history.

Wrt Creon, it won't cure anything, but what has taken me 2 1/2 years to learn is how many to take with which food. I know the only food that doesn't require me to take it is Jelly Babies.

HelenaJustina · 18/07/2022 21:20

Hilda the recovery truck news was just the soothing dull sort I needed in the heat of today.

So it’s been a funny week. On discovering that I was applying elsewhere, my current school gave me job title bump and 2 pay grade salary increase. Despite this, I took the job (which I was offered), it’s a bigger school, I’ll be managing a bigger team and it’s for a Headteacher I really like. I’ll be leaving current school in the lurch but it is too little too late. I’m looking forward to the new challenge, lots of change in our household over the next few months!

In dull news, the broccoli, sundried tomato and olive pasta I made for dinner was delicious at room temperature and was fine without the fresh basil in the dressing as I didn’t have any

MissConductUS · 18/07/2022 21:28

Congratulations HIlda, that's wonderful news about the new job. I've found that to really advance my career, I've had to change employers.

How is everyone holding up in the heat? It's all over the news here. We usually hit 40C a few times during the summer, but air conditioning is pretty universal here.

Plastichanger · 18/07/2022 21:50

Congratulations on the new job Helena and getting them to give you the meds you need Dr

I have not melted today despite living in London and I consider the non-melting to be a big win.

HelenaJustina · 18/07/2022 22:18

Current school went to remote learning today (and will again tomorrow), new school did not. Just about managing not to melt but may go and move DC2&3 down from top floor to sleep in living room. Or throw the 2-man tent up for them

HildaTablet · 18/07/2022 22:56

Well done on getting the new job, Helena!

echt · 19/07/2022 01:27

I completed my 1922 UK tax return today. And posted it.

I know how to live Grin

Silkierabbit · 19/07/2022 05:54

Congrats on the new job Helena

Sea swimming in Wales sounds lovely Iwandered

Nice photos Prok

Hope there isn't too much chaos from the workmen Hilda and lots of improvement is happening.

Glad you got power over the Creon DrTwo

Had my CT for radiotherapy yesterday, was fine, just made 3 tattoos on me and quick CT. 39C here yesterday and 41C today. Told DS to make sure he drank and eat ice lollies and he certainly followed that advice, had at least 10 ice creams but he needs to put on weight so that is fine. Floof was trying to sunbathe, he has very little brain, he was drinking at least but rabbits water and he would play with ice cubes, ice cube football.

DD is 3 days into her new job and really enjoying it.

We had a tutor round for second day since he wasn't allowed into school 6 weeks ago but they only stayed 30 mins again and he hid again.

Feeling really hot already and its not even 6am.

Silkierabbit · 19/07/2022 05:56

Enjoy having your DS home MissC

sueelleker · 19/07/2022 08:54

Watering the back garden the other evening, and the hose split! I've got a new one, but the print on the instruction sheet is too small for me to read (waiting for my post-cataract eye check) I've asked my BIL to come and put it together for me. (It's an expanding hose, with a multi-spray head, so I can't just stick it on the tap and go)

MissConductUS · 19/07/2022 09:31

Apologies for the name confusion, Helena.

I've only gotten responses from half the people invited to DS's graduation party, so I will have to contact the remainder individually to find out if they are coming.

HildaTablet · 19/07/2022 14:22

It’s too hot and I’m sheltering in an air-conditioned coffee-shop (to the planet: I’m sorry 😞) because the electrician is now rewiring the upstairs rooms where I’ve been lurking, the floors are going back in downstairs, and they have a radio playing 90s pop at about 2 billion decibels.

I keep having to chant inwardly ’it’ll be nice when it’s finished’ 😭😭😭
