DAE find this house weirdly unappealing?

I'm not buying any house ever, let alone a five million-pound one 😔, but just browsing what I would buy if I won the lottery I came across this one.

I love modern houses normally but I don't know what it is but it just doesn't seem that great to me. The way the front door opens into the sitting room? Or how it somehow looks cluttered even though it's pretty huge? I suppose I won't be putting in an offer. 😄

This was the house that is my dream house in the same area, less expensive and possibly even smaller but somehow I like it more, what do people think?

Someone buy it for me please 😩
I have terrible neighbours rn, making my life hell 🙁

It looks like a conference centre.

I really hate it - boring, predictable, zero character.

If I had £4.5-5 million, I'd be looking for something a bit more.... interesting.

Yeah, this.

Personally, I prefer old houses but if I was looking for a modern one, I'd still want something a bit more interesting. Some elements of it also look quite dated to me already and many of the materials they've used will not age nicely at all.

viques · 21/06/2022 13:51

Looked on the satellite view, lots of huge houses built on very average sized plots. For that money I don’t really want to be able to hear my neighbours kids or smell their bbq .

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 21/06/2022 13:52

The front door opens onto a reception hall, there’s a separate sitting room. Doesn’t look cluttered to me.

Not to my taste but it’s pretty unique and could be even more amazing with some different furniture and artwork.

stratforduponavon · 21/06/2022 14:00

Just waiting for the posts saying you can buy villages for that price! Odd pricing history though

bloodyplanes · 21/06/2022 14:05

It's awful, it looks more like a hotel than a home.

Bighairydogs · 21/06/2022 14:17

Reminds me of Milton Keynes indoor shopping centre.

ItsSnowJokes · 21/06/2022 14:27

I'm local and that price is quite normal for that area. I wouldn't buy it if I had the money though, locally you can get way better for a lot less. I prefer land than views though personally so I would want at least 10 acres.

Big Portakabin decorated by Mrs Hinch: I'll pass.

It looks like the head office of a big company
(I have worked at the head office of a big company that had small trees in the main atrium and it reminded me of that).

This. There are elements of it I quite like (and I usually loathe this kind of modern, 'clean lines' house, so BORING) but overall it feels like a swanky office space rather than a home.

gingersplodgecat · 21/06/2022 14:34

What's with the sculpture on the front lawn that looks like a rotary clothes line with a cover on it? That would have to go. 😂

Agree with the corporate vibes others are getting, too.

It's priced that high because of the location - v expensive thereabouts.

RedTravellingSocks · 21/06/2022 14:35

Whyyyyyyy all the shiny floors, though? We don't get enough good weather in the UK (even in Poole!) to justify all the hard, cold floorspace. It just looks sterile.

OMG yes!!

loveliesbleeding1 · 21/06/2022 14:38

The trees in the corridor(?) remind me of a shopping centre.

Annonnimoouse42 · 21/06/2022 14:39

exactly. its like a hotel

Yes! That’s exactly right.

watcherintherye · 21/06/2022 14:42

The only thing about it I really don’t like is that at night the living space would be lit up like Blackpool illuminations and from inside you wouldn’t be able to see the murderer lurking in the garden, like they inevitably do in TV dramas which use similar houses! Otherwise, fine Smile

rhowton · 21/06/2022 14:44

YABVR in posting this house with a tour. I flipping love touring houses I cant afford!

tulips27 · 21/06/2022 15:04

What about the second house?

don't like either of them but the first is particularly horrible. Cold, sterile..

TheLadyofShalott1 · 21/06/2022 15:17

Well before I even saw the house I said "yes, I'll have it", which is because it is in my favourite town, in my favourite area of that town - I learned how to drive around there as the streets are beautifully wide and quiet.

Then I fell in love with the house. I used to live in an old detached house with an inglenook fireplace, that was a small but amazinging "Christmas" House - it was at it's most appealing during winter, and especially at Christmas.

So anyway, now I am older, if I won the Euro lottery, I would buy that house in an instant. I would have a lot of my own furniture in it, including a Baby Grand, and I would probably revert the formal dining room back into the indoor swimming pool that it used to be.

But my Euromillions win would have to be a big one, not only to cover the bills, but also the full- time cleaner, the part-time glass cleaner, the part-time chef, and the part time gardener. I would also want to put in an outdoor pool as well.

I had better buy a lottery ticket...

risetodaysun · 21/06/2022 15:18

Feels like a Google type company headquarters to me.

Sidge · 21/06/2022 15:19

I like it. But then I like contemporary, bright airy houses.

It’s a helluva price for a 3 bed house though. Not even a pool or a sea view.

Hobele · 21/06/2022 15:24

I don't like modern but it's a very energy efficient house, that's good. I'd want a land/forest for this price though.

TheOrigRights · 21/06/2022 15:26

The only room I like is the office because to me that's what the whole place looks like.
