Are motivational print walls a bit crap?

I absolutely love the brightly coloured motivational prints on Etsy. All the different fonts and colours make me happy.

I work from home in my craft room. The walls are just white and I’ve decided I want to buy some prints - words that have meaning to me. Mostly ones that will give me a kick up the bum when I don’t have any orders, or to help me stick to my diet. Also song lyrics that I love. All in lovely colours and fonts.

I showed a friend and she said they’re crap, so I mentioned them to someone else who laughed and said the same. My mum says I’m too old (both my daughters have walls like this in their flats, but they’re 21 and 23). My husband says he likes them, and my daughters say to go for it. One has ordered me one ‘to get me started’

I don’t know why I care what people think really.

the pictures are the sort of thing, maybe!

Who cares?!

If you love it buy it.

Bighairydogs · 19/06/2022 17:02

It’s your room - if you like them, buy them. I like song lyric ones. It makes me sad to think people don’t buy things they like because other people say they’re crap - buy what makes you happy!

WetWilly · 19/06/2022 17:03

You have to see these daily - why ask for opinions - your life your home

KurriKawari · 19/06/2022 17:03

Your room, your space, your haven.
What would make your room even better is keeping negative people out of it.

AlternateFri · 19/06/2022 17:05

Order one that says "My Walls My Choice"

AllPlayedOut · 19/06/2022 17:05

Personally I can't bear them and they make me shudder but you like them and they make you happy so you should put them up. You shouldn't avoid putting them up because others don't care for them. It's your house.

InspirationWall · 19/06/2022 17:05

I think it’s because I’m already a bit looked down on. I doubt myself constantly, It’s pathetic I know.

I hate them, but it's not my room - it's yours.

Decorate it how you like

NiqueNique · 19/06/2022 17:07

More than a bit IMO (being honest, since you asked!).

But what I like or don’t like has absolutely nothing to do with what you should do in your home and your work space! If you love them - if they make you happy and speak to your soul and your creativity - go for it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/06/2022 17:07

Your husband and daughters sound lovely, @InspirationWall - your mum and friends less so. Definitely listen to your dh and dds, and enjoy your art. I firmly believe that colour can be uplifting and therapeutic - I love bright, rich colours, and enjoy having them around me. I do it through clothes, crafts and soft furnishings - I am currently crocheting myself a blanket in shades of purple, pink, red and orange - but you wall art sounds perfectly you!

JimmyShoo · 19/06/2022 17:08

I loathe things like this. The live, love, laugh ones particularly. However, many people would loathe my largely plain walls.

I live in my house so have it how I like it, you should do the same. You don’t decorate to the taste of your visitors.

ElenaSt · 19/06/2022 17:08

Not my thing but it's your wall so choose what things you like.

InspirationWall · 19/06/2022 17:08

@AllPlayedOut its just in my craft room where I don’t exactly welcome people anyway - you need to be careful of dropped pins and needles

I honestly love them!

I will say though that, for what little it's worth, the ones that you posted are much nicer than most that I've seen. The colours are appealing.

kierenthecommunity · 19/06/2022 17:09

If it’s your friends making you feel
like this, you need new pals

Camomila · 19/06/2022 17:09

I really like the rainbow one.

It's your wall, get whatever you like!

TedMullins · 19/06/2022 17:10

It doesn’t matter what other people think. If you like them, crack on. I personally think they’re horrible and naff but I like bold, blocky abstract art which some people hate.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/06/2022 17:15

They're great for a creative or well-being space like a yoga or meditation space - affirmations are good for wellbeing, there's literally masses of research on this

ShirleyPhallus · 19/06/2022 17:17

Personally I really dislike these as I feel like they’ve had their moment and are up there with pineapples everywhere, witty slogans printed on driftwood and rose gold.

BUT, I don’t live in your house and if you like them and they’d give you pleasure then get them.

AllPlayedOut · 19/06/2022 17:20

I honestly love them!

Get them! They'll put a smile on your face.

Useranon1 · 19/06/2022 17:22

I think these are lovely. I'm not a fan of big 'live, life, love' things but these are to make you smile in your own space. Life is too short to be pulled down by others OP

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/06/2022 17:23

I am very jealous that you have a craft room, @InspirationWall. I am just waiting for ds3 to move out, and then I can annex his room! We do have two spare rooms at the moment, but ds3 uses one as his office, because he works from home two or three days a week, and the other one is the cat’s bedroom. He’s not spoiled though - neither of them are. But the cat is In Charge, so I can’t annex his room.

JaninaDuszejko · 19/06/2022 17:39

The only people who matter are those who live in your house. You think they are cheerful and they make you, your DH and DC happy. In addition they don't cost lots of money and are easy to remove if you get fed up of them. Win win.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

InspirationWall · 19/06/2022 17:42

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I love the sound of your crocheted blanket.

The craft room is a new thing and my first chance to do WHATEVER I like to a room ever (strict parents, rented rooms, then houses where I had to consider everyone). We had one spare room but it was my husbands study (even though he doesn’t work from home). The girls moved out a year ago, although I think one will be in an out for a few more years. Luckily the cat likes her room best, as he’s in charge here too.So now I have my other daughters room and she can sleep in the study when she comes back to visit. No one ever goes in there.

I think when you work from home doing something creative it’s a bit lonely, and I can see that affirmations are great for well-being @LaurieFairyCake. Right, I’m doing this, and if people laugh at me, I don’t care. I think they do anyway.
