Where would you live if you needed to be with an hour of Bristol?

Just that really! We're thinking of relocating. Need to be within an hour of Bristol and don't want to go East.

I'm floundering because we could literally go anywhere in those parameters and there's too much choice!

Thanks. 😁

Worcester is technically within an hour of Bristol although only just depending upon which part you'reworking in. Perhaps some of the villages between Worcester and Cheltenham that have access to the M5. You'd get a lovely 4 bed in Worcester for your price.

Portishead or Clevedon would get my vote!

What are your future plans (will you both be working in Bristol long term or is it a stepping stone?) and what do you want from schools/education?

Personally I like the Welsh borders - Chepstow, Caldicott, Monmouth, aber , Forest of Dean etc. but that could pull you into Wales for education & politics which you might want to avoid. Most people seem to have strong opinions on the diverging education systems in England v Wales so depends which camp you are in! Also risk the bridge might start charging again.

Also depends which end of Bristol you are commuting to - it takes ages to get across the city so do you need to be south / east of it or north/west (ideally)?

DH needs to be in Easton on the days he has to be in the office.

On that budget - Wales.

Smallish town wise you could do Tewkesbury or Evesham. Fairly easy drive to Bristol (depending which side you need) and a good mix of city/countryside access.

Personally I’d want to be coastal if I could but that might not be a strong pull for you.

Some lovely places around Stroud
I live in Cheltenham and I love it, some nice little villages around here but may be a stretch to be an hour from Bristol

FourChimneys · 18/06/2022 19:45

Thornbury might be worth considering.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 18/06/2022 19:53

I’d look around Caldicot/Magor way. You won’t get much choice for £350k in Chepstow (assuming you need a 4 bed), so you’d have to go nearer to your max.

mommandme · 18/06/2022 19:54

I'd look at Cirencester, Tetbury, Malmesbury, Bradford upon Avon or Corsham. All lovely places to live, with some great schools. But for houses, you're probably looking at 3 bed semis on your budget.

Backwell, Cleeve

keynsham good access to South Bristol as you can cut over Avon Meads and get to Easton easily

Wells is friendly, nice palace gardens to play in with the children, and quite good value for housing.

I love Wells.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/06/2022 21:02

What about Bruton in Somerset?

Fbawtft · 18/06/2022 21:13

Around Stroud or Wotton-Under-Edge. Beautiful scenery, good schools and lovely community feel. Good motorway links. Plus there’s a train station reopening in charfield in a couple of years which will take you straight into Bristol.

LaQuern · 18/06/2022 21:21

Given the amount of traffic on the ring road in rush hour..... I'd say Bristol

Fifthtimelucky · 18/06/2022 21:23

I'd say Wells too, and it's south/south west of Bristol, not east.

RuthW · 18/06/2022 21:28

Swindon

avocadodi · 18/06/2022 21:28

North Somerset or south glos.

axolotlfloof · 18/06/2022 21:31

Winscombe. About 30 min drive. Good facilities. Good schools.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 18/06/2022 21:33

I love Wotton under Edge. We're nearby atm but I'd like to move there for when DS goes to secondary school

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/06/2022 21:34

Depends on whether you mean an hour from the edge of Bristol or an hour from the centre of Bristol. Very different things.
However I would say Keynsham, Yate or Nailsea. All have railway stations and are outside the county of Bristol in other local authorities. I've either lived, worked or have friends and relatives in all 3 towns.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 18/06/2022 21:34

A lot of the places people are suggesting are well over an hour's commute to Easton. Generally I'd suggest north of Bristol as you can get to the M32 and then off at J2 pretty easily

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 18/06/2022 21:38

Stroud.

transformandriseup · 18/06/2022 21:39

Exeter
