Where would you live if you needed to be with an hour of Bristol?

Just that really! We're thinking of relocating. Need to be within an hour of Bristol and don't want to go East.

I'm floundering because we could literally go anywhere in those parameters and there's too much choice!

Thanks. 😁

How often is he in the office?

Bristol - saves a drive and given the way fuel is going quite a bit of money.

Chepstow

Look at which trains go to Lawrence Hill or Stapleton Road stations. The nearest stations to Easton.

Keynsham is really nice. Lovely and quiet and I think you’d get something really nice there.

Haribosweets · 19/06/2022 20:14

Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud

An hour of Easton - maybe Muller Road Grin

South wales is cheap and commutable to Bristol

Swindon- for some reason house prices remain low there and it has excellent transport links

QuizzlyBears · 20/06/2022 00:09

Another vote for Frome!

Really????????

@RuthW can you name any redeeming features of Swindon that would tempt the OP to move there?

OTOH, the OP’s house budget would buy a lot there whereas in most other places suggested, it’ll be tight.

Although Swindon town centre is a horrific mess of awfulness, the surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful. Find a nice village/ suburbs and you’ve got stunning countryside on your doorstep, whilst still being classed as “Swindon”

I wouldn't rely on trains that stop at Lawrence Hill or Stapleton Road for a commute, they're incredibly unreliable. The main line out of Temple Meads runs parallel to them so the more reliable fast services don't stop there. They're mainly served by local stopping services that are regularly delayed or cancelled.

😁and even then you'd be quicker walking!

I'd say Wells or Cheltenham. Someone mentioned you'd struggle to buy a 3 bed house in Cheltenham for your budget, I beg to differ.

Wells - a lovely place, although can get busy. You'd have easy walking access into the town and also out into the fields with your dogs.

Cheltenham - one area that might suit you is Bishops Cleeve three miles north. A very big village which will soon have a choice of four primary schools, regular buses, two supermarkets, character, activities for children, lots of walks over nearby fields/hill.
