I'm wording this terribly but I'll give an example or two to show what I mean.

I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic and I was very ill from the malaria pills we'd been advised to take and could barely eat the whole time there. We went to a local store after 5 or so days of this and bought Milky Way bars(U.S Mars bars), cans of Cola and little tubs of plain Pringles. The food stayed down and somehow tasted incredible. I still dream of that meal.

Also the packs of little biscuits you get in hotels. I buy biscuits at home but somehow I get excited by seeing what mini packs of biscuits they have. Also the tea selection.

And when I was a kid, those little multipack boxes of cereal somehow always tasted much better than cereal from the big packs.

Does anyone else have any other examples? It doesn't have to be food related.

A jam jar of flowers picked from the garden. Better than any shop bought bouquet! Especially when you have grown them from seed.

SpaceJamtart · 19/06/2022 10:19

Breakfast for dinner- as a kid if we went somewhere and got back too late to make a proper meal, we would have cereal for dinner and it always tasted so much better than cereal in the morning

I bought 600count Egyptian cotton fitted sheets. They are crisp yet soft and wonderful, that fresh bed feeling for days.

BeyondMyWits · 19/06/2022 10:29

@SpaceJamtart... that reminds me of "biscuits for tea"...

Stuck on the m5 overnight in the floods of 2007. Me, Dh, 2 kids- 5 and 6, and my mum (70, just picked up from airport) in a Mondeo. 5pm til 7am...

Asked the kids about it... " oh yeah, that was the day we had biscuits for tea!"... we did indeed.

NiqueNique · 19/06/2022 10:30

@BeyondMyWits oh yes that’s a great one! We have Egyptian cotton sheets and they’re a wonderful luxury. But our favourite sheet is one we picked up on a whim at BHS for not much money but it’s just fantastically soft and has got better and better over the years. It’s a dream to sleep on, if you pardon the pun; I wish we’d bought a whole lot of them!

The cold glass of water after a tough workout.

OompaLoompaa · 19/06/2022 10:34

Empty laundry basket.

Bbq1 · 19/06/2022 10:34

Started a new, crisp, freshly bought book.

Starting

FaintlyMacabre · 19/06/2022 10:34

Cutting up fruit rather than eating it whole.
Clean sheets
Definitely going to the supermarket without children- I usually do but circumstances have meant I’ve taken a child the last few times, can’t wait to go alone!

Bbq1 · 19/06/2022 10:34

Washing on thr line on a sunny day

NiqueNique · 19/06/2022 11:10

@OompaLoompaa that’s another one of my favourites. I finally achieved it this week as I washed all the woollens that had been waiting at the bottom of the hamper!

NiqueNique · 19/06/2022 11:12

@Bbq1 yes, I love that too. Feels very happy to me after several years of living in flats and not having any outdoor space.

Hucklead · 19/06/2022 11:18

Painted toe nails and bare feet.

New leaves unfurling on my indoor plants.

First episode of a new season of a great show.

A cuddly throw on the settee.

Bacon and mushroom sandwich!

Thermos of tea when you're out somewhere cold and far from home, especially when you don't usually remember to pack one.

Yes! A friend and I went to the Christmas "Glow" at RHS Wisley a couple of years ago and I took a flask of hot chocolate which we had in the car afterwards to warm up before we came home. That was especially delicious 😋

Showering in a dark bathroom. In the summer I love showering in the evening just as the sun is setting, so it's just light enough that I can see what I'm doing but it's dim. The darkness, hot water and steam makes me feel so relaxed. In the winter I do the same but with just a flickering candle lighting the bathroom.

I also love using self-checkout tills at the supermarket, I find it so fun to scan things especially if it's a hand held scanner like Ikea has. When I was a child I'd spend hours pretending to be a shop keeper working on a till. I'd go around the house collecting random things that had barcodes on, bring them into my Dad's office and pretend the red laser light of his computer mouse was a scanner and his calculator was a till. I would have loved and been amazed by self-checkout tills at the supermarket.

Putting on new socks
A new book at Christmas the tactile thing of smelling the print, feeling the pages. ( Not just at Christmas I add but always seems more special then).
Cheese portions taste nicer than from a tub for some reason.
Sticking your feet in a bowl of cold water when you have been out walking in hot weather, bliss !

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 19/06/2022 13:17

@Rosewaterblossom @goldfinchonthelawn

I recently visited the Wilkins Factory at Tiptree who supply them.

The sheer joy of finding a large pick'n'mix stand stuffed full of them was almost too much.

Left with a bag full of them!

AuntMargo · 19/06/2022 13:22

Going to bed in the morning after a night shift, is always better than going to bed at night, especially in the winter months.

NiqueNique · 19/06/2022 13:27

Waking up on a day where you don’t have work (when you don’t have any other immediate commitments/responsibilities/obligations); being able to sink back into wonderful sleep/relaxation for another couple of hours is pure bliss.

MoniJitchell · 19/06/2022 13:55

A hot bubble bath in the middle of the day always feels like a really decadent treat to me.

MegaClutterSlut · 19/06/2022 14:50

For those wanting a big tape dispenser....Card factory sell big heavy ones for £1.49. Bought it a few days ago to use at Christmas so I haven't used mine yet to say how good it is

Bbq1 · 19/06/2022 16:13

Love this along with thinking it's a workday when in reality it's not. Like today, I woke up and bizarrely thought it was a Wednesday! The relief and pleasure as I realised it was a Sunday and I could go back asleep.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 20/06/2022 07:27

Putting my bare feet into my sandals, after 12+ hours spent in socks and boots. Utter bliss, whatever the weather.

Stillfunny · 20/06/2022 07:38

Starting a brand new notebook or pad .Especially with a soft dark pencil.
Waking up in the morning and realise that you have slept through without any disturbance .
Soft warm chocolate chip cookies.
