I'm wording this terribly but I'll give an example or two to show what I mean.

I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic and I was very ill from the malaria pills we'd been advised to take and could barely eat the whole time there. We went to a local store after 5 or so days of this and bought Milky Way bars(U.S Mars bars), cans of Cola and little tubs of plain Pringles. The food stayed down and somehow tasted incredible. I still dream of that meal.

Also the packs of little biscuits you get in hotels. I buy biscuits at home but somehow I get excited by seeing what mini packs of biscuits they have. Also the tea selection.

And when I was a kid, those little multipack boxes of cereal somehow always tasted much better than cereal from the big packs.

Does anyone else have any other examples? It doesn't have to be food related.

Grated cheese always tastes nicer in a sandwich than sliced . also, triangle sandwiches taste better that rectangles!
No idea why this is.

Yes to anything mini... especially mini jams in the glass jars!

We had a few days away last week and i was enchanted by the tiny glass jars of jam and marmalade and honey. I really wanted to nick them but DH would not have approved.

goldfinchonthelawn · 18/06/2022 23:13

My offering: candles. Or natural night light from moon or stars. It's a frequent natural occurrence and yet it feels magical.

Maltesers in a box

10speckledfrogs · 18/06/2022 23:22

Mine I only really started indulging in 6 months ago and for most people might seem not so much a luxury

But me and my toddler take care of our face together twice a day, we wash with a hand knitted 100 percent cotton cloth, just with a sensitive soap bar, then aveeno calming oats toner and simple moisturiser so perfectly safe for both of us and nice and gentle on the skin

I like that we spend 15 minutes doing it together, especially as up to recently the most care my face got was a scrub in the shower, now my 3 year old wants to get in on the action I can carve out 15 minutes twice a day for it with some lovely products and my skin feels so much more comfortable for it, once a week we do an oat face mask too

Walking in light rain in summer when it's warm. The smell reminds me of every UK holiday I have ever been on.

OompaLoompaa · 19/06/2022 09:08

goldfinchonthelawn I’ve seen advent calendars with a different mini jam jar for each day.

Gnome134 · 19/06/2022 09:13

I agree with previous posters.....new socks and grated cheese in sandwiches are my two!

OompaLoompaa · 19/06/2022 09:16

Sandwiches cut into triangles, ideally into quarters.

OompaLoompaa · 19/06/2022 09:17

The maltesers in a box is good one, I also love the giant chocolate buttons.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/06/2022 09:19

I love a train journey. Don’t mind where it’s going, I just enjoy the experience. Sitting back, looking out of the window, book to read, cup of coffee or a train-a-colada drink in a tin. Fab.

BruceAndNosh · 19/06/2022 09:23

Beware the heavy duty sellotape dispensers.
I shaved the tip of my thumb off using the ferociously sharp one at work.

BruceAndNosh · 19/06/2022 09:24

The first cup of tea of the day in bed when it's my husband's turn to make it.

MagpiePi · 19/06/2022 09:25

Lying on a beach and feeling the sun burn my skin.

I know it's probably giving me skin cancer and I do use high factor suncream, but I just love that burning feeling.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/06/2022 09:27

In February, the first bunch of daffs in bud. £1 at the supermarket for a cheerful reminder that the dark nights are receding.

Thestoppedfan · 19/06/2022 09:33

The first morning coffee. Working from home means I’m not in a crazy rush in a morning anymore so if it’s chilly a hot coffee looking out into the garden, if it’s warm then an iced coffee. It feels so indulgent compared to the mad rush it used to be.

Tsandjdarethrbest · 19/06/2022 09:33

Chippy chips.
Slices of apple. Much nicer than a whole apple. No idea why.
Tea and toast when it’s raining outside.
Dairy milk chocolate.

First thing that pops to mind that is ordinary but always feels like the most amazing event/meal is the post birth tea and toast , for me especially as having HG and feeling awful my entire pregnancy and not being able to stomach or have the desire for tea at all when I usually drink it multiple times a day then To suddenly an hour or so after giving birth have it again for the first time and it tastes so good , also to know that I won't vomit my toast and biscuits back up is such a relief and all this while holding my new baby , amazing!

Post baby toast is the best thing any one will ever eat!

Don't think i got tea until later though!

Also any 'real' food thats snuck in while youre at hospital tastes waaaay better than it should

I also am probably way too pleased by my baby's clothes - doesn't matter that she will probably get it messy within the hour - I love picking her clothes and dressing her up (its like being a kid with a doll again for 5 minutes of the day)

Coming home to an empty, clean and tidy home after a long day at work.
Absolutely love living alone since the last child flew the nest.

OhThatChicken · 19/06/2022 10:02

Another one with sellotape joy. I have a wrapping paper bag which holds the dispenser, scissors, loads of rolls of different papers and gift tags and what not. Whenever I get it out I feel a weird smug joy.

Also serving dishes. It sounds so silly (and I curse myself when washing up) but our last rented flat before DH and I bought our house was so small that the kitchen had a single cupboard and one small square of counter top. Not only could we not entertain anyone (frankly the whole flat was smaller than a Travelodge bedroom anyway) but we had 2 x plates 2 x bowls and half a dozen mugs. Whenever I put anything on a serving plate it makes me so happy.

I know it's weird.

Yes! I always have vases of daffs in the house during spring.. cheap and very cheerful 😁

Mini anything, fresh bed linen, the first daffodils I see, being up early on my own when I feel well and not tired, the first cup of tea after being sick with gastroenteritis, poached eggs, eating with friends, lavender shower gel, being cooked for

ebri91 · 19/06/2022 10:10

Toast with the crusts cut off

NiqueNique · 19/06/2022 10:13

@OhThatChicken that’s not weird! I completely understand - we lived in flats for several years before buying our home and now that I’ve got a dining room again I have a sideboard and a cabinet full of lovely dishes, matching vintage dinner service, serving platters and all sorts of pretty plates and crockery, cheese boards, decorative bowls etc. I use them regularly and it feels special to make an effort with meals even when it’s just the two of us.
