We are off to Spain tomorrow, DS has gone out tonight with our blessing... he has a shock coming when he gets home....

Grin

He isn't coming home (staying at a friends) which makes our leaving the house early in the morning easier, we can make as much noise as we like. Anyhoo.....

I have stripped out the pedal bin, (DH placing bets on whether he knows where the fresh bin liners are) 😁

I have put the food bin contents outside but failed to reline the bin.

The dishwasher is full to capacity but whoops I appear to have forgotten to run it before we leave.

None of it major, but all the invisible parts of how a house runs....

Comedy gold, you say?
I'm guessing in a different league entirely to your "Do bore off you silly fuckers"?
Is that your best attempt at comedy? <bless>

OP you're totes hilair

im very sorry if I cause you any distress at reading those words. Probably not my best judgement. I do hope you’re ok.

The grown up thing you do would have been to leave him a list of things that he needs to do while you're away. And a list of where everything is kept and how things work. Plus clear instructions for unexpected stuff and emergencies.

Yeah because god forbid a male old enough to be home alone has to do any thinking about domestic things whatever. His bits might drop off.

I have to admit, this made me chuckle 😂

mizzo · 17/06/2022 22:07

PIL tried similar with DH and his brothers the first time they left them home alone. Despite never encouraging them to lift a finger for their entire lives previously bar washing up on Christmas Day.

Imagine their joy arriving home from holiday to a stinking dishwasher plus a sink full of dirty dishes and assorted takeaway rubbish strewn throughout the kitchen. Thanks
They'd left the washing machine full of wet washing in the hope it would be hung out- it was not.
The fridge which had been stocked in the hope they'd magically start cooking for themselves was full of off meat and veg.

Riverlee · 17/06/2022 22:09

I get you op!

Have you left enough bread, milk etc Not.

maisieandvicks · 17/06/2022 22:09

I’m sat here laughing at the people who are genuinely offended by OP leaving the dishwasher with dirty dishes in it. You have to be a different level of miserable to be offended by that.

MiniatureHotdog · 17/06/2022 22:09

I don't get it. Assuming he's at least late teens if he's home alone then if he can't do basic household stuff that's your failing as a parent, no? My primary age DC could sort the bins and dishwasher.

jd88123 · 17/06/2022 22:10

Yep another vote for saying he'll use the bins without liners. Typical lazy person style haha. He'll probably order take away and use no plates if he's as useless as you make him sound...

MyWorstIsGoodEnough · 17/06/2022 22:11

If he’s old enough and trustworthy enough to be left in charge of your home, surely he’ll know these things need doing as you’d have shown him how to do things when he was growing up. If you didn’t that’s on you but I’m sure he’ll work it out. Or are you hoping he fails? How fucking weird.

Summersolargirl · 17/06/2022 22:12

What is it you find funny op? You raised a domestically incompetent son. Who lining the bin and emptying the dishwasher will be a shock for?

ok. If you find that funny, then haha. Well done you.

StarDolphins · 17/06/2022 22:13

Johnnysgirl · 17/06/2022 21:59

Either the people reading don't have older children,or are just pretending not to understand.
No to both.
We just don't see anything vaguely entertaining about leaving bins without liners and dishwashers full of dirty dishes in the hope of pissing someone else off.

I’m wondering if it might be less upsetting for you if you popped over to one of the ‘Egyptian cotton’ or ‘natural hessian’ for my hallway. I think being here is too much for you.

TitoMojito · 17/06/2022 22:14

I feel like, regardless, you're going to come home to a messier house than you left lol

camelfinger · 17/06/2022 22:15

I reckon he’ll not bother with the food bin at all. New dirty plates may get put on top of the dishwasher. Rubbish May end up in the general direction of the bin. And the day before you come back he’ll run around with a bin bag. The dishwasher might end up with fairy liquid in. As teens we were quite careful not to leave the place too tidy as that would have been too obvious that we’d had a party.

Don't be so bloody daft, ffs.

TheBiologyStupid · 17/06/2022 22:17

Hard to know what to say without knowing the age of the OP's DS. My sister and I had a party that lasted almost 3 weeks when our parents left us alone one Christmas when we were home from uni. We were pretty good at washing up, putting the bins out, hoovering, etc. In fact we might even have got away with out them noticing at all if some fool hadn't managed to leave a roach somewhere in mum and dad's bedroom where we didn't spot it... (Here's looking at YOU, Neil Cooper!)

GrazingSheep · 17/06/2022 22:17

I think some people are thinking that the op and her husband have reared yet another one of the useless inept men that you constantly read about on MN - you know the ones who piss on the floor, haven’t a clue how to wash their own underpants, can’t boil an egg etc etc etc …but seem to have a golden cock that suckers in a woman who hopes she can change him.
That’s my take on it anyway

Summersolargirl · 17/06/2022 22:18

onlythreenow · 17/06/2022 21:48

Sorry OP - there seems to be a complete lack of a sense of humour on MN at the moment (or maybe not just at the moment!) I found your post funny Grin

What’s funny about raising a near adult male who doesn’t know where the bin liners are or how to use a dishwasher? Haha. I’m an incompetent parent and leaving a mess for my kid.. How funny is that.let’s all laugh at my parental incompetence and my sons.

Eh, right. Ok. If you find it funny go you.

😏

GrazingSheep · 17/06/2022 22:18

That’s my view too btw

Arnaquer · 17/06/2022 22:22

The long winter nights must fly by in your house

maisieandvicks · 17/06/2022 22:25

Can someone show me where exactly OP said that DS was incapable of doing his chores? As opposed to, unwilling? Which is usually the case with most teenagers? I’m confused. Where did she say that he couldn’t do the housework?

The fact they are taking bets on whether he knows where the bin liners are is a big clue.

Confused

MrsMiddleMother · 17/06/2022 22:32

Why wouldn't you just reline the bins run the dishwasher? You're emptying the bins and they're all your dishes.. what a petty silly post
