We are off to Spain tomorrow, DS has gone out tonight with our blessing... he has a shock coming when he gets home....

Grin

He isn't coming home (staying at a friends) which makes our leaving the house early in the morning easier, we can make as much noise as we like. Anyhoo.....

I have stripped out the pedal bin, (DH placing bets on whether he knows where the fresh bin liners are) 😁

I have put the food bin contents outside but failed to reline the bin.

The dishwasher is full to capacity but whoops I appear to have forgotten to run it before we leave.

None of it major, but all the invisible parts of how a house runs....

I knew what you meant OP.

SoupDragon · 17/06/2022 21:45

Why does he need your blessing to go out?

midsomermurderess · 17/06/2022 21:45

All the worst of MN right here, the earnest, humourless dullness.

TheRoadToRuin · 17/06/2022 21:45

Seems nasty to me. Not only are you not taking him on holiday you are setting him up to "fail" while you are away.

ZenNudist · 17/06/2022 21:46

Wow, Friday night. Bad luck on these responses. Anyone would think you were sneaking out leaving your 9yo alone.

I get it. My parents left me and dsis alone at 16/17. The house started to smell and small flies appeared everywhere but we thought that was because it was summer. grandma came to check on us, Marched straight in the kitchen and came out with a liquefied bag of potatoes from under the sink. I do not recall cooking, cleaning or doing any housework at all whilst they were away, maybe we ate freezer food.

They have to learn some time. I'd leave a note but would he read it?!? Let alone pay attention. Learn by doing I say.

onlythreenow · 17/06/2022 21:48

Sorry OP - there seems to be a complete lack of a sense of humour on MN at the moment (or maybe not just at the moment!) I found your post funny Grin

Itstimetoquit · 17/06/2022 21:49

Why do that, why waste time starting a thread!

Seriously?! You found the op side splitting? Takes all sorts.

PinkSyCo · 17/06/2022 21:54

I’m trying to work out how old your DS is. I’m guessing around 16? Either way I suspect he will get the last ‘laugh’ when you come home to filthy unlined bins. As for you not turning the dishwasher on before you leave, that is so unnecessarily petty it’s bordering on pathetic.

Most people leave a nice note and instructions and a I love you in case their plane crashes

Do you do this every time you get in the car?
"Gone to Tesco to do the shopping. If anything happens don't forget to pay the window cleaner. My will is in the file with "important stuff" on it. Will always love you, mum xx"

No but kids can be scared of planes

Please explain, I’ve had a long day

Ostryga · 17/06/2022 21:57

The loss of!

Johnnysgirl · 17/06/2022 21:59

Either the people reading don't have older children,or are just pretending not to understand.
No to both.
We just don't see anything vaguely entertaining about leaving bins without liners and dishwashers full of dirty dishes in the hope of pissing someone else off.

AdditionalCharacter · 17/06/2022 22:00

You also need to drink all the milk apart from a tiny drug at the bottom and put it back in the fridge, also eat all the bread apart from the two end crusts.

GrazingSheep · 17/06/2022 22:01

@NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster

Op going to Spain
Her son will be surprised to find dishwasher full and bins not lined
I think that’s the gist of it

EllenWaiteourkid · 17/06/2022 20:55

Oh we are at full on MN, it was meant to be lighthearted as in the invisible stuff hasn't been done, forget I spoke.

Lighthearted? Mumsnet? Haaa good luck with that one!

I was also thinking ‘what if the plane crashes?’. The poor boy will spend the rest of his life wondering why his parents did all for him to find before they left! Confused

IT IS A JOKE.

Bloody hell bet you’re great fun at parties. Have you ever watched stand up? You’d probably keel over.

Jesus Christ. You'd think the OP has left rusty nails in bed and invited the local burglars round for a free for all. It's a light hearted post intended to make people laugh ffs. If you don't find it funny then just feel free to ignore the thread. Such weird angry responses

It’s International Funsuckers Day.

SoupDragon · 17/06/2022 22:03

Ah I see the pretend thickos are out in force!!

oh, don't be so hard on yourself!

She didn’t say she found it side splitting just wasn’t utterly offended by it!

MumofSpud · 17/06/2022 22:03

I get you!
My DD would probably not even notice we're gone - she wouldn't realise there is no bin bag in the bin / wouldn't even bother putting things in the dishwasher etc

And it can't be the parenting as her older DS was different!

Have a great holiday!
