What would you stop your neighbours doing?

You can only pick ONE!

No barking dogs
No cigarette smoking
No lawn mowing/strimming
No shrieking children
No BBQs/fire pits
No hot tubs/pools
No arguing
No DIY
No music playing
No ball games

It's a tough one for me, but I'm going to go for 'No barking dogs'!!

My neighbours are lovely, but - smoking. Their (small) garden is directly beneath my bedroom window, so on a hot evening when I can't shut the window and they understandably want to sit outside for hours chatting and smoking...
They got married recently so I'm hoping quitting the cigs to TTC may be on the cards soon.

romdowa · 17/06/2022 21:26

It's a toss up between barking dogs and smoking weed. The smell of that shit gives me a migraine and makes my whole house stink.

KangarooKenny · 17/06/2022 21:28

You didn’t have smoke weed as an option.

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/06/2022 21:29

No crap parking.

Next door down always parks her car half in front of our house, even if there is no other car in the street.

In my neighbourhood it would definitely be a ban on lawn mowers, strimmers, chain saws etc. Very "naice" suburb with no anti social behaviour but a lot of people with too much time on their hands. Every time it's a remotely nice day someone cranks up a power tool somewhere. Does my head in.

It wouldn’t be naice for long if nobody maintained their gardens.

MissMaple82 · 17/06/2022 21:46

No ball games!

itsmellslikepopcarn · 17/06/2022 21:49

Torn between barking dogs and bbq. I don’t have a quiet dog by any stretch of the imagination, but if my dog is barking excessively I always try to get him to quiet down and bring him inside, whereas the majority of my neighbours just leave theirs to it.

next door also uses his bbq at least 1-2 times a day from spring - autumn, it’s gas and he regularly cooks fish on it which is absolutely rank.

MassiveSalad22 · 17/06/2022 22:01

No weed. I’ve never smoked or been around smokers but I don’t mind/quite like the smell of normal cigarettes. Weed smell is rancid.

Cyberworrier · 17/06/2022 22:04

I have misophonia and am very sensitive about most noises- but I'm amazed that lawnmowers are the worst offenders in a few people's eyes! To me it's a much more neutral noise than others mentioned, also it's a purposeful noise (eg to stop gardens getting overgrown) so not noise for the sake of noise.
To the OP, intrusive music in neighbours gardens or coming through the walls is the thing I would ban. I've had neighbours who only played music at full blast and would have 24 hour parties and it's made me feel anxious whenever I hear neighbours music in my new home, shudder.

baby2inmybelly · 17/06/2022 22:05

No cigarette smoking. By that I mean no smoking weed 5x per day.

easyday · 17/06/2022 22:10

It all depends when. Anything late at night is going to be annoying (music I guess). But shrieking kids, lawn mower etc during the day is just part of living with neighbours .
Arguing so loud and often would make me feel really uncomfortable though.
But the most annoying thing from my neighbours is a poor woman with some lung condition as she sits outside and coughs loudly all day long. Even the yappy dogs on the other side are fine compared to the incessant cough cough cough. But I think she must be ill so can't say anything.

MontanaMountains · 17/06/2022 22:12

No barking dogs. But you left out No Wind-chimes!

I went and spoke to one of our neighbours last year about their barking dog. Things improved but have started to deteriorate again, so I'm putting a note through their door this weekend telling them I will report them if things don't improve. And I love dogs - I have a dog!

BooksAndHooks · 17/06/2022 22:15

Tough call between dogs barking and trying to break through the fence to attack our cat and smoking weed.

5zeds · 17/06/2022 22:16

None of those things bother me at all. I like my neighbours though we aren’t friends, we just get on with our own lives.

dannydyerismydad · 17/06/2022 22:17

Moving.

My neighbours are lovely. I want to keep them forever.

ElenaSt · 17/06/2022 22:18

Barking dogs upsets me as I feel so sorry for the poor dog or dogs left alone.

Shrieking/screaming children are unbearable.

I was raised not to shriek and scream and I did likewise with my own children.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 17/06/2022 22:20

No leaving engines running on your over powered car for 10 minutes every morning at 7am rain or shine.

AlternativelyWired · 17/06/2022 22:20

Living.

HerbErtlinger · 17/06/2022 22:22

No shrieking children. I like our neighbours but they have three boys who are SO LOUD. When they're in the garden, the shrieking and shouting reverberates through the whole house. They seem to get sent out there too when the parents have had enough and they ignore them while I grit my teeth at the sheer volume of noise

tunnocksreturns2019 · 17/06/2022 22:22

I’m listening to non stop dog barking right now and it’s too hot to close my window

Strangeways19 · 17/06/2022 22:26

I have newish neighbours & one of their children screams it goes right through me. Before them there was a family with 6 children & they were great, we did have the usual noise but nothing like this current family, they're SO LOUD.
I'm tempted to say something but don't want to fall out with them. Or being passive aggressive & playing really loud music to drown them out. Neither is my style but hard to tolerate if you can't enjoy your garden.

If we were getting a football bouncing against the fence it would drive me insane. I'd want to pop it.
My children are grown up so forgive me if I'm less tolerant than I used to be!

Hurstlandshome · 17/06/2022 22:27

It's a toss up between excessively loud music 5 nights a week, the police sirens that come out to him every other week, and him shouting that he's going to kill me and burn down my house.

Sorry to darken the mood. Waiting on court dates. Please think of me when your neighbours are inconsiderate... it really could be a whole lot worse.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 17/06/2022 22:30

Blossomtoes · 17/06/2022 20:27

Breathing.

😂😂 this is exactly how I felt a couple of years ago before I sold my house. New neighbours are almost as bad.

TwentyOneTwentyTwo · 17/06/2022 22:32

Fucking spying on me, creepy arseholes. Read a book or something!
