What would you stop your neighbours doing?

You can only pick ONE!

No barking dogs
No cigarette smoking
No lawn mowing/strimming
No shrieking children
No BBQs/fire pits
No hot tubs/pools
No arguing
No DIY
No music playing
No ball games

It's a tough one for me, but I'm going to go for 'No barking dogs'!!

CodeNamechange · 17/06/2022 20:45

what about "no sex that I can be made aware of"

Blue4YOU · 17/06/2022 20:45

Cock and balls- I hate my phone

MolkosTeenageAngst · 17/06/2022 20:46

The only one of those my neighbour does is smoke so I guess I’d choose no smoking but to be honest although the smell occasionally comes through my window it’s not often and doesn’t bother me much.

Although I would probably add one not on your list which would be ‘no car/ burglar alarms going off for hours at a time’

Blue4YOU · 17/06/2022 20:47

@CodeNamechange oh and that too!!! I’m glad neighbours are pregnant again. Thought my tv was about to explode recently before I realised what it was

TooMuchToblerone · 17/06/2022 20:48

No music - don't have this issue but if we did this is the one that would annoy me.

AngelinaFibres · 17/06/2022 20:48

Breathing.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/06/2022 20:49

No children/grandchildren of varying ages outside from 7am til 10pm all summer. Yes, they shriek (holler, shout, cry (loudly), play basketball, kick footballs against the fence, etc.)

9 til 9 is more reasonable, surely?

chubbachub · 17/06/2022 20:49

Living next door.

Dogs

I'd go for 'not putting excess food for the birds (inc slices of white bread) on the lawn and attracting rats'.

I'd pick this.
One neighbour puts all sorts out for the birds and they shit all over my washing at least once a week.

smileandsing · 17/06/2022 20:50

None of the above.
Once were asked to move our trampoline because the neighbour thought one of our dogs might use it to jump over the fence Hmm so I'd prob add batshittery to your list!

I tend to have a live and let live outlook where neighbours are concerned. But then judging by MN neighbour pet peeves we're probably the annoying ones owning dogs that occasionally bark, as dogs do, and a child who dares to play football in the his own garden! And of course the above mentioned trampoline.

chickma · 17/06/2022 20:53

For my neighbours specifically I'd have to say DIY and mowing the lawn- they seem to do both several times a week! They're quiet otherwise though, so can't complain in that sense.

Other neighbours play music, have small parties etc but it's never bothered us.

Previous neighbours have had dogs that barked lots, that was difficult because it wasn't nice to hear them sounding distressed.

Cuck00soup · 17/06/2022 20:53

Ours are mostly great, but one set has regular visits from a family with a loud, screaming child.

So visitors.

Poppins2016 · 17/06/2022 20:53

I'd choose no smoking from the list.

I would prefer an option not on the list, however: no trampolines. My neighbours child uses it as an platform to watch us and talk to us over the fence and although it's tolerable in small doses (child is lovely), it actually happens so often that I now avoid using my garden as much as I'd like to because I find it very intrusive (my garden is my sanctuary and I don't like being forced to interact with someone when I don't want to... there's a reason our fences are 6 feet tall)!

Stompythedinosaur · 17/06/2022 20:55

No music playing! Hate that.

Basilbrushgotfat · 17/06/2022 20:56

Nothing! My neighbours are lovely 😌

Whatthebarnacles · 17/06/2022 20:57

Cigarette smoking, seriously?

Can't actually believe that some of you would choose to stop that of your neighbours, in their own backyard/territory.

At least its not weed! It's outdoors so disappears after seconds. Unlike fire pits/bbqs that you can smell streets away and on your clothes (ones on your body, or worse - the freshly washed ones on the washing line).

Saying that, I also appreciate that people enjoy bbqs and firepits so wouldn't stop that either!

The worst on your list is barking dogs. If you can't train them, or care for them, it's cruel. Bluergh... and dog poo. Festering away in the heat or rain. Disgusting.

My own one to add to the list would be mandatroy closing of gates. How does it not do their own heads in when they've got a wooden back gate banging away all night, or an iron front gate creaking forevermore. That, for me, trumps everything!

WhichShoes · 17/06/2022 20:57

Definitely the music! Ours have a barking dog, shrieking child and bbqs and none of those bother me at all but for some reason I can't tolerate being able to hear other people's music at all. It makes me tearful with rage in a massively disproportionate way whereas dogs, children etc I can somehow handle as part of normal family noise.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 17/06/2022 20:58

Shrieking children.
I say this as I have neighbours with some kind of hot tub/pool thing and the children ( not that young , I might add) cannot stop screaming, shrieking, complaining about each other... and it goes on and on and on.... even in the depths of winter and on school nights, til very late.

And yes, we're looking to move .

tootsweeting · 17/06/2022 21:04

No cats allowed out to kill birds.

Yep same here!!

Rogue1001MNer · 17/06/2022 21:21

I also have lovely neighbours.
But I wish the kids would give uo the piano and the violin.

The piano is worse, because it's the same half dozen tunes for the last 8 years

FavouritePi · 17/06/2022 21:26

No music playing. Maybe then their friends and family would piss off home instead of singing along to Valerie at 2am.

I really thought I'd struck gold by having neighbours in their 60s, until the warm weather hit.
