What would you say was the best British seaside town for a summer holiday?

I like llandudno. And lytham.

QuebecBagnet · 17/06/2022 17:23

Tenby or whitby

Weymouth

I was going to say Tenby too. I love st Ives but we never go to Cornwall in school holidays. I’ve heard it’s hellish.

BestIsWest · 17/06/2022 18:44

I love Tenby but it’s so busy in school holidays.

DaisyDozyDee · 17/06/2022 18:44

I do love Weymouth, but it depends where you are. There are great seaside towns all around the UK, so it’s better to pick one near where you are than to waste a whole day of holiday travelling.

notprincehamlet · 17/06/2022 18:45

Budleigh Salterton

MissDollyMix · 17/06/2022 18:46

Is broadstairs still lovely? I used to go there every summer as a child and have very fond memories and very snobby parents so it can’t have been too bad! As an adult, I like Swanage a lot. Whitby and Scarborough also have their charm.

bloodywhitecat · 17/06/2022 18:46

Depends what you want out of your seaside holiday surely?

MissDollyMix · 17/06/2022 18:47

Prefer isolated beaches though like Holkham and Bamburgh.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/06/2022 18:48

Bamburgh or Tynemouth (both villages and not a kiss me quick hat in sight) in England. In Scotland Coldingham Bay and the East Neuk of Fife. Again villages and I suspect my idea of a great seaside holiday might be a bit less commercial and northern than most.

Filey, but it may be too quiet for some.

AmaryIlis · 17/06/2022 18:55

St Ives, Cornwall - several lovely beaches within walking distance, lots to do to keep adults sane. But not during the school summer holidays, sadly, it's very expensive and very crowded.

thistimelastweek · 17/06/2022 18:57

Another vote for Southwold.

Somanycuddlybears · 17/06/2022 19:00

Mumbles in Swansea

dollyblack · 17/06/2022 19:01

Edinburgh

Yes, this. Perfection. The huge beach that stretches from Wells to Holkham.

prettyLittlefool · 17/06/2022 19:04

Nothing to do in Southwold once you've been on the pier and seen all 10 shops. Whitby is nice however. If you have kids you probably want one of the bigger brighter cheesier sea side towns.
