What would you say was the best British seaside town for a summer holiday?

We love New Quay (Welsh one near Aberystwyth)
Dolphin safaris, lifeboat station, lovely beach and niace ice cream parlour. Day in Aberystwyth city is nice, too. Different style of beach; (rock pools, exploring sort rather than bucket and spade) and has a castle.

I have a soft spot for Portobello, and Elie in Fife.

Crackercrazy · 17/06/2022 20:06

Weymouth. So much to do and lots of places to visit.

bridlington or further south in East Yorkshire
north Norfolk

Enjoyallthewine · 17/06/2022 20:12

Weymouth, Dorset. North Norfolk, so Wells, Cromer, Sheringham. Tenby and Pembrokeshire coast is beautiful. St Ives stunning but not in high season. Newquay beaches are lovely too

LondonWolf · 17/06/2022 20:15

I can't say because I don't want to attract people there Grin

I will say though that Sussex has beautiful beaches, the South Downs way, castles, nature reserves, historical small towns and villages and never seems to get as crowded as other seaside destinations.

VonWeasel · 17/06/2022 20:16

I was in Sheringham at Easter and it's a fabulous place to stay. Great day trips from there too. Currently in Broadstairs which is also a favourite. It's super busy today but guess that's the heatwave. Loads of nice restaurants and quirky places to explore. In fact the whole coastline from Margate to Ramsgate is lovely. Whitstable also nice. I quite like Eastbourne too with the proximity to the South Downs National Park. I like Brighton but more for a day trip with amazing restaurants and interesting shops. The IOW has some fabulous beaches and coastal towns. My favourite spot is Yarmouth though as it has quite a quaint harbour and shops nearby. A good base to explore from and less busy than the east of the island. Bembrige and Ventnor also good places to stay.

Enjoyallthewine · 17/06/2022 20:17

Oh yes I second Lyme Regis - small place though so gets very busy

Emptyandsad · 17/06/2022 20:17

St Andrews
Studland
Woolacombe
The Gower

Mumbean12 · 17/06/2022 20:17

Broadstairs is lovely - we have always had a lovely time there.

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 17/06/2022 20:17

Whitley Bay

South Shields

LiIo · 17/06/2022 20:27

Brighton is a much better city than Hastings but both have pebble beaches.

Brighton has a lot going for it if you are looking for a city/beach break but it gets quite busy.

For scenic beaches - Lyme Regis, Tenby and North Norfolk are my favourites.

Gottoomuchgoingon · 17/06/2022 20:32

Swansea. Gower has amazing beaches and there's plenty for kids near and in Swansea
Just back from Tenby and it was heaving.

Pembrokeshire has amazing beaches and Newquay is nice or Aberaeron
Swansea is easy to get to though so I'd stick with there

Limer · 17/06/2022 20:36

Filey, but it may be too quiet for some.

I second Filey. We used to go every year as kids.

My DH hates it because it's so quiet.

I love it because it's so quiet.

munchbunch12 · 17/06/2022 20:42

Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn, all awesome!

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 17/06/2022 20:43

Just got back from Bude - great beaches, nice bars and restaurants. Not mad overcrowded as it's so North its practically Devon.

LilyMarshall · 17/06/2022 17:22

I like llandudno. And lytham.

DH has been there for work for a week. He said it was really rough.

Pegasushaswings · 17/06/2022 20:56

I’m not a massive beach fan even though I live by the beach and my in laws live in Weymouth, but Wells next the Sea I thought was stunning, such a lovely clean beach and when you walk into town a small harbour. Very traditional which I liked.

froomeonthebroom · 17/06/2022 20:59
