I have wasted loads of meat

I got a gousto box for 4 days based on 4 people. The meat/fish was frozen. But like a prat I put it in the fridge. Instead of the freezer which meant it had to be eaten within 24hrs that 24hrs has gone so now we can't use the meat/fish. So now I have all that wasted food. Waste of money as well. as I have to replace could do without that. No point to this post what so ever. Just pissed off with myself.

Cook it and refreeze it? Has it really gone off?

heldinadream · 17/06/2022 08:26

How much past the 24 hours? How does it now look? And smell? I suspect it's still fine and once cooked can then be frozen safely but more detail would help. What is each item? For instance, mackerel goes off much quicker than salmon, minced meat much quicker than larger pieces.

Mine came yesterday and was already defrosted and says two meals are good until 19th and the other 2 til 20tg so I don’t think they expect you to freeze it.

It definitely is too hot for it to stay frozen in this weather.

I’ve got beef, prawns and chicken

If it’s been defrosting in the fridge it’ll probably be fine for more than 24 hours - I wouldn’t automatically chuck it without checking

Yodaisawally · 17/06/2022 08:29

Cook it and freeze

user30 · 17/06/2022 08:30

You don't need to freeze gousto meat - use it before the date on the packaging

I think it has. The use by dates are chicken 18th. Fish was the 16th so fish definitely off. But it Came frozen. I put it in the fridge it says to use within 24hrs after it's defrosted. And its been 3 days .

Have you just assumed they are frozen.... i thought Gousto boxes are fresh. They come in bags with ice blocks to keep cool during transit but am sure they aren't frozen. Your meat/fish will have use by dates on. It should be at least good for 2-4 days. Don't stress!

Therealpink · 17/06/2022 08:31

Gosh, I wouldn’t be throwing that out! It’s probably fine for days!!! And as others said, cook and freeze for goodness sake. Sell by, use by, best before dates are not an exact science!!! And ALWAYS set well before anything would be a risk.

RJnomore1 · 17/06/2022 08:31

gpusto meat shouldn’t be frozen?

It says to use within 24hrs once defrost 😔.

No - the 16th was only 8 hours ago - if it smells ok it should be fine.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 17/06/2022 08:35

Its fine until the best before date for each individual meal, they will have emailed them
to you.

User76745333 · 17/06/2022 08:35

What??? It’s fine, just stick it in the freezer now or cook it and then freeze. The chicken is ok until tomorrow anyway

Queenoftheashes · 17/06/2022 08:35

Yes I wouldn’t be wasting that either.

Lazypuppy · 17/06/2022 08:35

I have never had frozen meat from Gousto, always just fridge temp in the cardboard box with the ice packs.

It's that fact that I allowed it to defrost. And it Says once defrost use within 24hrs

Open it and smell it, any doubts bin it but it will probably be ok.
You can also refreeze once it’s been cooked

User76745333 · 17/06/2022 08:37

It says to use within 24hrs once defrost 😔

this means that if you freeze it to extend its life then because you won’t know how close to the date you froze it, you should use it within 24 hours after defrosting it.

it doesn’t mean it’s all been frozen and now needs to be thrown away

Theawkwardblonde · 17/06/2022 08:37

Have you contacted them about the meat being frozen on arrival? I've had Gousto weekly for years and never had meat arrive frozen.

namechange30455 · 17/06/2022 08:38

I think you've got confused here - Gousto doesn't come frozen does it? Doesn't the 24 hour thing mean if you do choose to freeze it then use it within that time?

Why would the use by date be so soon if you were supposed to freeze it?

SoupDragon · 17/06/2022 08:38

Sniff it. The food doesn't know what date has been signed to it.

mokololo · 17/06/2022 08:39

Gousto meat isn't frozen. You can safely cook and eat it.

Rabbitmugsarecute · 17/06/2022 08:40

Use your common sense , if it smells ok it's fine to use past its use by date

Herejustforthisone · 17/06/2022 08:42

So fretful over an arbitrary date printed on a packet…

That date has not been scientifically calculated to predict the degradation of the meat. The best way to check is to use your eyes and nose.

I’d cook and freeze all of the meals and then eat then as normal.

I sincerely hope you’ve not already binned it all. What an appalling waste of life that would be.
