Size 8s - what do you eat in a day?

Lost close to 1.5st and now a size eight. Feeling fantastic! I can wear whatever I want, and quite frankly after birthing 2 children, I feel damn proud of myself and feel sexy again.

Anyway, now for maintenance...

If you're a size 8, what do you eat in a day to maintain your size?

No idea why size 8s are seen as under eaters.

Exactly! There are plenty of size 8 people who eat normally and are not skipping meals or drinking Slim Fast to remain size 8.

I have always been size 8 at 5' 2", and do not deprive myself of anything. I do run regularly though which helps.

It depended on my age. Up to age 32 when I got preganant, I could eat like a horse, had the unhealthiest diet and never exercised but was still a size 8. After kids I had to exercise and really limit sugary treats, chocolate and crisps. I'm now 42 and it's bloody hard work!

HouseofGods · 12/06/2022 15:53

I've never eaten breakfast so don't have that but it's not as part of a "diet", I just don't feel like eating early in the day.

Lunch - protein bar when it's a work day. When we're on holiday and someone is cooking for me then I had fish/chicken with rice and loads of veg. Need to do better when not on holiday but my work canteen only really caters for chips/lasagne/sandwiches rather than anything tasty and protein rich and I've not been prepared enough to do anything other than chuck a protein bar in my bag.

Dinner - something filling and homemade like chilli, risotto, chicken and chorizo pasta or something like duck/fish/steak with veg and rice or lentils.

Snacks - haribo, bits of twirl that you get in the share bag, one of the big bakery cookies at night when watching tv (that's my treat), protein shake

5'2", 7st 9lb, mid-30s and I also do CrossFit 5 times a week so I'm pretty active despite having a desk job. Need to eat more fruit but I don't really enjoy it so I tend to focus more on veg.

@pattish oh that's good, I can't stand cardio! I've got a Chiari malformation and anything like running gives me the worst headache. I really should do yoga or Pilates though, I used to have a really strong core but 2 kids, a terrible diet and no exercise for the last 15 years has buggered that up. I've got 18 months until I'm 40 so need to get my act together, as I'd like to be less wobbly by then Grin

ElEmEnOhPee · 12/06/2022 16:10

The fact that so many people view all these very normal daily food intakes as "competitive undereating" is why there's an obesity crisis, people have lost sight of what a normal days eating is - clearly!

Thing is though, on this thread there are people who are skipping meals and drinking protein shakes to remain a size 8. That's not healthy either physically, or in terms of attitudes to food/eating.

Ceridwenn · 12/06/2022 16:48

I drink protein shakes for breakfast sometimes. Stick a banana, frozen berries and chia seeds in there. Probably no less calories than toast or ceral other people eat. It's a quick and easy breakfast.

Now’s the time! I’m your age and I just do yoga or Pilates at home a few times a week for half an hour - no biggie. Just use your own body weight. Also walking, especially first thing in the morning before you’ve had your brekkie.

This combo (plus plenty of protein) is the best way for over 40s and it will give you a nice toned body. Cardio like running releases too much cortisol, which is ageing.

Bingo!

Have we lost sight of what's a healthy size/weight yet?

Anyone mentioned massive salads?

20 sovereign blue? All to yourself?!?!

NO WONDER THERE'S AN OBESITY CRISIS

Nocutenamesleft · 12/06/2022 17:36

I eat lots of chocolate!

that’s about it. Lols. Oh and popcorn!

Eggsley · 12/06/2022 18:07

@pattish I will have a look online, half an hour a day sounds manageable. We are trying to low-carb as DH has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, but I've fallen off the wagon a bit recently. Sitting at a desk all day for work does me no good!

Dazedandc0nfused · 12/06/2022 18:25

Breakfast - 2 x wholemeal toast with butter

Lunch - wholemeal ham salad and mayo sandwich' natural yoghurt with honey and a piece of fruit

Dinner - Sweet potato and lentil curry with two chapatti

3 mugs of tea with whole milk and 1 sugar plus at least 2 litres of water though the day.

Snacks - piece of fruit and 2 finger kit kat

ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmmmmmmmm · 12/06/2022 19:21

Half a segment of orange ( got to watch that sugar ) !
Maybe half a slice of dry toast for lunch.
Dinner ? Massive salad.🙄

artisanbread · 12/06/2022 19:27

There seems to be a real variety on here. Some people seem very strict with themselves about what they eat and others seem to eat what they like (portion size is probably not that big though.) I can't eat big meals. My main meals are pretty small but I snack a lot.

Ceridwenn · 12/06/2022 19:29

Well done on becoming more healthy OP. Many people struggle with it. For me, exercise is key, and seeing food as fuel so that I can do everything I want to.

SleepyDoggo · 12/06/2022 20:16

Pro-ana vibe to a lot of these posts. Lots of people here are not getting their nutrients and should seek help. Skipping meals and eating a few sweets is disordered eating and @MNHQ needs to start deleting unless they want to be known as pro-ana.

At least one person on this thread has been diagnosed with anorexia but has presented their eating habits as not problematic. She won’t be the only one.

lljkk · 12/06/2022 20:33

Spotify thinks it's Babooshka. It has grown on me.
I would have said Man with Child in his Eyes.

oops, soz, wrong thread!!

100% this.

Whenever there's a thread like this (and there are so, so many of them) there are posters who seem to be in competition to eat the least.

Saying that you skip meals because eating is a distraction, or that you replace meals with shakes, smacks of disordered eating. And presenting these behaviours as normal and healthy is downright dangerous.

Are we reading the same thread? Most people on here have perfectly normal diets, many of them with all food groups. Who’s replacing meals with shakes? Confused

The vibe I get is not a competition to see who can eat the least - it’s more of people trying to show that you can eat plenty and still be slim.

IME people who say slim people have disordered eating have their own serious issues around food.

pattish · 12/06/2022 20:48

@0pheIiaBalls @SleepyDoggo

Do you by any chance have a tricky relationship with food?
