Size 8s - what do you eat in a day?

user7637296 · 12/06/2022 08:46

Lost close to 1.5st and now a size eight. Feeling fantastic! I can wear whatever I want, and quite frankly after birthing 2 children, I feel damn proud of myself and feel sexy again.

Anyway, now for maintenance...

If you're a size 8, what do you eat in a day to maintain your size?

High protein low carb and keep within your calorie requirement.

2 boiled eggs for breakfast.

Only eat bread as a treat out at a restaurant. Don’t own a toaster.

Have espresso or black coffee with splash of plant milk.

No coke/soft drinks ever - love the Dash sparkling waters for flavoured bubbly drink.

And weight lifting!

TheNeverEndingSt0ry · 12/06/2022 12:42

I’m in the process of moving so trying to eat all of the ingredients in my cupboards and freezer down. Todays meal plan is looking slightly more normal though. I’m vegan so everything is vegan. 5ft 9 and size 8

Today I will probably have:
Breakfast was overnight carrot cake oats
Coffee with soya milk & two digestive biscuits

lunch will be
Left over butterbean Jamaican curry with rice & peas and slaw
Will probably have a packet of protein crisps too and most likely go out and grab an iced coffee or a smoothie

dinner :
spaghetti carbonara with garlic bread

But I realise this is pointless because you don’t know how much exercise I do or the portion sizes of everything I will eat. I believe in eating intuitively though.

@Eggsley 🤣

Bb16103 · 12/06/2022 12:43

I reckon everyone will be different but on a general day I would probably have a banana or pear, maybe a tin of sardines & some nuts or crisps if I felt like it, dinner is a smallish portion of anything I like & usually roasted vegetables or salad with that. I’m suppose to avoid dairy so I have soy milk in tea & coffee, I drink far too much of both. I am a big comfort eater & have been really stressed lately so on days when I’m not hoovering up every junk food in sight I keep it quite light to balance it out & mostly stay a size 8. I drink Prosecco instead of cocktails when I’m out

FragileLikeABomb · 12/06/2022 12:45

Cup of tea with one sugar and semi skimmed milk.

mid day - slice of brown bread toast sometimes with peanut butter also with a cup of tea.

snack - banana, biscuits, (what ever takes my fancy)

dinner (tea) - whatever I want.

supper - either cake, chocolate croissant, muffin, cinnamon roll, chocolate bar and a packet of crisps. (Always a packet of crisps)

CoffeeDay · 12/06/2022 12:48

Breakfast - Once slice of toast with a fried egg and one slice with some maple syrup. Double espresso with milk
Lunch - Usually skipped due to work & childcare, which is why breakfast has to have protein to keep me full for longer
Mid Afternoon Snack - Another double espresso with milk and crisps or an ice cream. Maybe some fruit like a banana, nectarine or strawberries
Dinner - Avocado toast with bacon / homemade smashburger / a big salad / roast peppers with feta cheese / chicken with veg / steak with salad / salmon and spinach
Late night snack - Mini magnum / a few sweets / handful of nuts

Dinner is basically the only meal that's reasonably healthy and I try to keep it low carb with at least 2 servings of veg. I also walk around 7-10K steps a day, although that doesn't seem to make a huge difference (eg during the lockdowns when we did zero walking, didn't notice any change in weight)

CoffeeDay · 12/06/2022 12:51

Forgot to mention that I only drink water. Also zero alcohol (never tolerated it well and then just ended up going teetotal at some point)

Appleblum · 12/06/2022 12:53

My diet is very carb heavy. Today I had

Breakfast: chocolate Danish and cappuccino from starbucks

Snack: 3 biscuits and some of my daughter's pringles

Lunch: rice with fish, tofu and veg, bubble tea

Snack: toast with butter and sugar

Dinner: rice with chicken and veg, 2 glasses of wine

whatdodos · 12/06/2022 12:53

Varies day by day. Usually nothing for breakfast (bad advice) then a crumpet/bagel/sandwich for lunch with crisps or other snack then sometimes a choccy biscuit after. For tea it's usually veggie burgers and chips, jacket with cheese beans, pasta with bread or a ready meal then maybe some ice cream for pudding. I always have fruit before bed and vegetables with every meal but don't have the best diet in the world so rarely have energy. I'd rather be a bigger size and have more energy but struggle with my appetite and eat just because I need to.

Ooh another competitive under-eating/thinness thread, just what Mumsnet needs.

TheFairyCaravan · 12/06/2022 13:00

I usually have tea with soya or oat milk at about 8am.
Soya Greek style yoghurt with berries around 11.30/12ish.
If I’m peckish in the afternoon I’ll have some fruit.
Dinner is what everyone else has, eg curry, a roast, cottage pie etc but I don’t eat very much of it.

I’m 51 and have never been bigger than an 8. I don’t see food as anything other than fuel. I’m disabled, so don’t move a lot, therefore I don’t need to keep pushing food in because I won’t use the calories.

NotSonicTheHedgehog · 12/06/2022 13:00

I’m a 6 (sometimes 8) and yesterday was:

Breakfast - 2 scotch pancakes, crumpet, Greek yogurt and berries, small orange juice, cup of tea and an Actimel

Lunch - Huel Black, piece of fruit, protein yogurt then a bulking shake before the gym

Dinner - Vegan Doner kebab in a pitta with potatoes and veggies on the side. As a snack I had rice pudding and a banana

Supper - Toast and peanut butter and a protein shake

I eat a lot but I’m weightlifting four times a week

The fact that people of normal weight posting their food intake, which is generally quite normal and results in neither weight gain nor loss, is described as 'competitive undereating' might go some way to explain why there is apparently an obesity epidemic.

My food diary would be similar and I'm a size 16 < shrug > we are all built different

Breakfast - porridge and a banana, 2 x cups of tea (no sugar)

Lunch - chicken salad with a bag of salad leaves, gherkins, tomatoes, few shavings of Parmesan, spring onions, mustard dressing (half a pack of cooked chicken)

Tea - not sure yet but probably chilli with 1/2 pack microwave rice and some salsa on the side. Strawberries after

A million glasses of water, more cups of tea and a banana on a 90 min spin class

StanleyBostitch · 12/06/2022 13:06

I often only eat 2 meals a day, 3 if I'm at work (lunch is always small and rushed so I make sure I have breakfast on those days). Small meal sizes, lots of fruit and vegetables, lean protein, and I avoid grains during the day (no bread, cakes, biscuits, pastries etc).

Ihaveoflate · 12/06/2022 13:10

I follow 16:8 so no breakfast

Mid morning coffee with a small bit of home baking like banana bread

Lunch is homemade soup or 2 egg omelette with salad (no bread)

Snack is fruit usually grapes

Tea is normal veggie stuff like pasta, homemade pizza, stir fry etc. I always have a peice of dark chocolate for afters.

I stop eating at 6pm

This is a weekday menu - I'm more relaxed at the weekend and will have treats like cake. I run twice a week.

Ooh another competitive under-eating/thinness thread, just what Mumsnet needs.

It reminds me of the now defunct pro ana websites. Scary and dangerous for anyone vulnerable to ED.

ChloeHel · 12/06/2022 13:20

Breakfast - 45g of protein granola with alpro coconut milk

Snack - Humous and carrot sticks or pitta bread

Lunch - 4 cracker breads, chicken slices, coleslaw and salad

Snack - Some form of low sugar snack bar - nature valley sweet and salty peanut bars are good, only 5.8g in one and tastes amazing!

Then dinner varies day by day so weekends it’s anything goes, but tomorrow I’ll have cod, sweet potato chips and mushy peas, tomorrow I’ll have a chicken stir fry, Wednesday salmon, boiled pots and Brocolli, Thursday some form of healthy home made curry.

No snacking after dinner then - unless I’m really hungry then I’ll have a piece of fruit!

Ceridwenn · 12/06/2022 13:27

No idea why size 8s are seen as under eaters.

Actually, if you look at what a lot of people are posting you’ll see that it’s perfectly possible for slim people to eat normally and stay slim. It proves that it’s not rocket science.

That’s the point of this thread, no matter what your insecurities.

pattish · 12/06/2022 13:31

Eggsley · 12/06/2022 11:53

Me! So far I've realised that I am going to need to start doing exercise, which is disappointing Grin

Not loads of cardio though. You’ll be fine doing some weight-bearing exterior like yoga and walking. It’s not that bad!

pattish · 12/06/2022 13:32

*exercise!

pattish · 12/06/2022 13:37

MummyInTheNecropolis · 12/06/2022 12:36

I am terribly overweight but I like these threads, I find them interesting. I’ve tried every diet going and while some have worked (I lost 6 stone on slimming world) the results have never lasted, so now I’m just focusing on reducing the junk and increasing the fruit and veg without setting specific limits. I’m also not weighing myself daily or weekly like I used to, I’m just hoping I will eventually start to notice clothes getting looser/feeling a bit healthier but we shall see!

Good for you @MummyInTheNecropolis At last some sense. 🎉

You will see a difference, slowly but surely, so make sure you stick at it.

Probably why I'll never be a size 8

SaySomethingMan · 12/06/2022 13:45

interesting thread.
a 5foot size 8 is very different to a 5’9” so that’ll be such a big range.
Would bmi not be better?

sHREDDIES19 · 12/06/2022 13:48

Well done on the hard work! I’m a bit different as I’ve always been around the same weight my adult life (44 now) so whilst I don’t consciously calorie count I obviously eat what I need to maintain. I don’t deny myself anything although I am a vegetarian and enjoy my foods. My portions are the same as my dh as I adore food and am used to eating this way. I also am active in day to day life such as always running up the stairs at home, playing with the kids, getting my steps in plus I fidget a lot! I do classes such as HIIT and kettlebells also some weight training, again I’ve always been into fitness so for me this is a hobby. In terms of food, breakfast is two slices toast with peanut butter and banana. Lunch might be oven chips and sausage roll. Dinner varies day to day but could be wraps or chilli etc. Always have a packet of crisps at night and snack on fruit and nuts if I’m hungry. Also love fruit bread. Some great advice on working out your TDEE and take it from there!
