Size 8s - what do you eat in a day?

Lost close to 1.5st and now a size eight. Feeling fantastic! I can wear whatever I want, and quite frankly after birthing 2 children, I feel damn proud of myself and feel sexy again.

Anyway, now for maintenance...

If you're a size 8, what do you eat in a day to maintain your size?

OP posts:
Ithinkitsadoughnut · 12/06/2022 10:46

Congratulations on the weight loss, op. I think the best thing to do is just eat healthily now and not fall back into the bad habits. It's easier to maintain weight than to lose it. I like the 16/8 as a way of life. It works for me.

The length is adjusted accordingly.. It's still a size 8. Height most definitely does matter. A size 12 is slim on a 5"10 woman, definitely not on a 4"10 woman..

It varies by store. ASOS for example have different measurements on their size guides for their petite range but their tall is the same as regular.

A 26" waist is still a 26" waist no matter how tall you are. You may 'look' slimmer if you're tall and lithe with that waist compared to a 5ft person but the clothes will still fit the same. I think you're confusing weight with measurements. 10st looks very different on a 5ft woman compared to a 5ft 10 woman.

SuziSecondLaw · 12/06/2022 10:50

Exercise and grazing seem to be a common theme amongst slimmer people I've noticed.

I eat a lot of chocolate and crisps etc, but I don't eat breakfast and only have toast for lunch. Have a proper dinner, but other than that I just snack all day, soo I'm slim, but doubt my insides are very healthy 😩

For what? No one is starving themselves here as far as I can see.
It's just a list of foods from a normal diet.

I hardly think all these skipped meals, protein shakes and not allowing oneself to be 'distracted' by eating are components of a healthy diet. Or a healthy attitude towards food/eating, for that matter.

0pheIiaBalls · 12/06/2022 10:51

Components of a normal diet, that should have said.

Yes, the clothes will fit the same, but if you're taller your actual skeleton is bigger.. So it does matter. You can be a size 10 and 5"8 and be very bony and thin, or you can be 5 foot size 10 and quite 'fatty'. Both a size 10,yes, but it's very different. It definitely does matter.
It's important people understand that because it causes a lot of issues for taller women who feel fat if they're a size 14, when they are comparing themselves to women an entire foot shorter.

Attractinglife · 12/06/2022 10:57

I'm size 6/8. ( I am short though). For me, the trick was learning to be in tune with my appetite ( when I am hungry and when my appetite is sated). I now find I naturally eat less when I am sedentary and more when I am active. I never have any stress or anxiety around food or eating now. Its very freeing.

For interest, yesterday I had porridge made with soya milk with mango and pumpkin seeds. A plain croissant as a snack. Lunch was egg mayo sandwich with baked crisps, some strawberries. A scoop of real ice-cream mid afternoon. Dinner was boiled rice with fried tofu and veg in sezchuan sauce and a glass of wine. I cycled ten miles and went to a dance class that day.

Cherryblossoms85 · 12/06/2022 10:58

Whatever I like, just small portions. No snacking. Not too much booze. But even so, u do need to be getting the exercise in as it otherwise creeps up. Didn't used to, but mid 40s seems to mean a bit more attention required!

Cherryblossoms85 · 12/06/2022 10:59

That should've said "I", not the bizarre "u".

ElEmEnOhPee · 12/06/2022 11:01

I eat shit usually but lately I have been trying to get more fruit and veg in my diet, I don't deny myself anything I want though. I don't drive so I think that helps a lot with my weight because it means I walk everywhere, I only use public transport if I'm going away for the day and would rather walk two or three miles than get a bus or a taxi.

If you have to limit your eating in order to maintain your size, perhaps you're too thin?

This is the most idiotic comment I've read on Mumsnet.

This is such a weird interpretation of the facts Confused If you're taller, your skeleton is bigger, and therefore weighs more than a shorter person's, so at a size 8 you're still a healthy BMI. You can't cherry pick facts to form some weird whataboutery. A size 8 is not underweight, even at 5ft 10 or 6ft. When you get to size 6 and 4 etc then yes, but an 8 is a healthy size and weight.

Buttercup72 · 12/06/2022 11:07

I agree with PP, it’s a bit worrying when you can talk about being a healthy weight without being accused of being triggering.

I eat what I want, but stop when I’m full, if there’s leftover from my dinner I often eat it as a snack later on.

typical meals/snacks:
Breakfast - porridge, or yoghurt &granola. On weekends I might have roll and bacon and mushroom, or pancakes

Lunch - soup with toasted cheese, ‘posh’ beans e.g. black beans fried with tomatoes, chilli etc, with some feta and herbs, baked potato with cheese and beans, quesadillas

Dinner - typical dinners, pork fillet with chimchurri and homemade chips, pasta dishes, salmon with minted peas and baby potatoes, lamb keema, lasagne, traybakes

snacks - nuts and raisins mix, crisps, magnum ice cream, hummus and chips, raspberries

pattish · 12/06/2022 11:08

Yesterday:

Breakfast: kiwi, 2-egg omelette, cherry tomatoes
Mid-morning: banana, cappuccino
Lunch: 4 rashers bacon, potato rosti, fried egg, spinach
Mid-afternoon: Ice cream
Dinner: Bolognese, half a grilled aubergine, rocket and olive salad with dressing, courgettes, grated cheese

These are very big portions.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 12/06/2022 11:08

I think what other people eats is irrelevant to you. Some people are small famed, no effort or diet needed. Some are more prone to gain weight, so they need to watch what you eat.

MintyGreenDream · 12/06/2022 11:10

Anyone just here for tips on how to be a size 8 😁

Just to add - I’m a size 6 and a very healthy weight thank you! Just a very slim build. My BMI is 19 and no one would call me underweight. In fact, I look fitter and healthier than I have for years.

Body frame has a lot to do with it, so don’t assume people who are a size 6 are underweight.

Ooh another competitive under-eating/thinness thread, just what Mumsnet needs.

I agree, I hate these threads.

Exactly this. It also depends on your metabolism. If it’s been screwed up by yo-yo dieting then it will be harder to maintain a size 8 than if you’ve always been that weight.

LissyBooks · 12/06/2022 11:13

The concept of “skipped meals” is so bizarre.

3 meals a day isn’t based on any scientific evidence. It’s just the UK “normal” - that doesn’t mean it’s correct.

Eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re not. End of

Ive been thin my whole life, I don’t think about food or weight I literally just eat when I am PHYSICALLY hungry (not mentally bored) and then stop when I no longer feel PHYSICALLY hungry. No “clear plate” nonsense, no portion size nonsense, no carb free, blood type, blah blah shit.

eat when you are hungry, stop when you’re not

Justcallmebebes · 12/06/2022 11:17

I fluctuate between a 8 and 10. I eat a lot of healthy proteins and carbs. V little crap or processed food and I work out 6 nights a week. It can be hard work but to me, it's worth it

MyneighbourisTotoro · 12/06/2022 11:28

Breakfast is usually porridge or two scrambled eggs no bread.

I don’t eat lunch, I usually have a snack instead which is just some fruit.

My dinners usually contain one carb, meat (chicken predominantly) and vegetables/salad

I avoid bread and chips, I don’t eat crisps. I do have a terrible sweet tooth so I do allow myself a sweet treat but I have to use a lot of self control to not eat the whole thing! 😂

Chattanooger · 12/06/2022 11:30

Yesterday I had:
Hotel Chocolat Latte (1 sugar)
3 rashers of bacon
Pint of Coke Zero
Harley's Jelly pot
Packet of crisps
Super noodles
Cinnamon Crepe
Half a slice of cookie pie
Milkshake

SchoolNightWine · 12/06/2022 11:38

Well done OP on the weight loss - "a 10 percent body weight loss will result in better blood pressure, improved heart health and cholesterol levels, decreased risk for diabetes, a better night's sleep for those with obstructive sleep apnea, decreased risk for many types of cancer, and more energy," - for those suggesting this thread/your size is unhealthyHmm

I lost similar last year, and have just about maintained (bar 3 lbs!). Snacking is my downfall, but ok if I have chocolate protein bars in to solve my chocolate craving in a healthier way. I eat mostly the same as I did to lose the weight, but don't weight portions now, and snack a little more.

Yikes. You might want to look at your long-term health if this is a regular occurrence for you. Thin doesn’t = healthy.
