Size 8s - what do you eat in a day?

user7637296 · 12/06/2022 08:46

Lost close to 1.5st and now a size eight. Feeling fantastic! I can wear whatever I want, and quite frankly after birthing 2 children, I feel damn proud of myself and feel sexy again.

Anyway, now for maintenance...

If you're a size 8, what do you eat in a day to maintain your size?

OP posts:
Skinnermarink · 12/06/2022 11:44

I never said a size 8 was unhealthy. What is unhealthy is the sharing of tips/tricks and food intake when it’s pretty senseless to compare what we eat to what other women with a different build/metabolism/level of activity/age, and detail a very specific food intake. Mumsnet is a magnet for this, always had been. THAT is unhealthy.

Glitternails1 · 12/06/2022 11:44

I’m a UK size 6. I eat 3 meals a day and snacks in between meals (not just fruit). My diet is carb heavy but I have a decent amount of protein and get my 5 a day for fruit and veg. I eat more than 1500 calories a day. My exercise is yoga.

Ceridwenn · 12/06/2022 11:48

Avocado on one slice of toast with a cucumber, celery, apple and wheatgrass juice.

Two poached eggs on one slice of toast with roasted spinach and tomatoes.

Chickpea curry, rice, roasted cauliflower.

Nuts for a snack. Maybe a graze bar.

Yesterday I had:
Hotel Chocolat Latte (1 sugar)
3 rashers of bacon
Pint of Coke Zero
Harley's Jelly pot
Packet of crisps
Super noodles
Cinnamon Crepe
Half a slice of cookie pie
Milkshake

That’s not enough food.

Anyone just here for tips on how to be a size 8 😁

Me! So far I've realised that I am going to need to start doing exercise, which is disappointing Grin

Caspianberg · 12/06/2022 11:54

I’m size 6. Always have been. Even pregnant basic size 6 with bump.

I eat normal food, and never miss a meal

Today:
x2 boiled eggs and toast, orange juice, tea

just had goulash soup and chips, apple stud ( up a mountain)

will eat out again tonight for friends birthday. Probably meat/ fish/ carbs/ etc. and desert

might have an ice cream this afternoon if I go past a parlour

Ooh another competitive under-eating/thinness thread, just what Mumsnet needs.

If your body is naturally a size 8 you will be able to eat whatever you want. If you have dieted and exercised to get down to that you will have to continue to do what you are doing to maintain it

AvocadosAreTheDevil · 12/06/2022 12:02

I have a big coffee with a little milk when I wake up and a biscuit (or two), if I have time for breakfast I eat porridge made with semi skimmed milk, half a banana, peanut butter, a little honey. Or 3 slices of toast with butter and jam (danish loaf).
Mid morning, more coffee, white americano. A couple more biscuits (I do love a biscuit)
Lunch I have more around 2/3pm depending on work, it's usually a ham and cheese sandwich with a packet of pom bears and a 100 calorie chocolate bar (freddo, kit kat, gold bar etc). Some salad in the sandwich. Cucumber and tomatoes if I fancy them.
Afternoon I'll have a snack with a drink. This can vary tho.
Dinner is usual family meal style affair. Usually followed by something sweet but not a lot of that.
Evening, you guessed it, a few more biscuits and a cuppa haha
If I am on a late shift at work, midnight snack will usually be toast

My job keeps me very active. So I get away with eating quite a lot more "normally".

inappropriateraspberry · 12/06/2022 12:03

Lots!
Cereal and/or toast for breakfast.
Snack at 11ish with coffee. Something like a pain au chocolat.
Sandwich, crisps, plus a bit of extra cheese for lunch.
Home cooked dinner, pretty healthy, lots of veg. Occasionally a beige oven meal - chips, nuggets type meal, ready meal or pasta. I LOVE pasta!
Never get takeaways as live rurally. Perhaps fish and chips on way home from a day out.
No sugar in my tea, but take one in my coffee. I also snack between meals - toast, cheese, crisps etc.
I definitely prefer savoury food to sweet. Would rather have crisps than chocolate.

I agree, I hate these threads.

And I hate these comments.
if you don’t want to be a size 8 or don’t need to watch what you eat, why read or post?

OP I eat pretty much what I want but, after using MFP to help me drop weight, I continue to log and record to track my maintenance calories.

xsquared · 12/06/2022 09:07

For what? No one is starving themselves here as far as I can see.
It's just a list of foods from a normal diet.

Apart from it's not a normal diet, is it? Most say they skip meals and eat small portions.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 12/06/2022 12:10

During the week:
Breakfast - protein yoghurt (currently tue nestle lindahls kvarg) cup of tea, 100ml tropicana
Snack - 100g grapes
Lunch - ham and cheese wholemeal roll with strawberries, cucumber sticks, apple slices and a chocolate bar
Snack - scrambled egg whites on a slice of wholemeal toast
Dinner - honey and garlic turkey with roasted veg

All in all that's about 1400 cals

On a weekend I eat whatever I fancy, yesterday was an apple until lunchtime then I went to a bbq where I ate a burger, a hot dog, a slice of quiche, pasta and loads of salad stuff. I was stuffed until about 10 this morning.

Apart from it's not a normal diet, is it? Most say they skip meals and eat small portions.

Define 'normal'? It's very clear that if they're not putting on weight then they're eating the right amount for them as an individual. PPs calling it 'undereating' are suggesting this way of eating is abnormal, when actually if someone is overweight or putting on weight, why do they not consider that their idea of 'normal' might be overeating?

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/06/2022 12:25

RhiRhi1996 · 12/06/2022 09:09

Rather than listening to someone else's food intake which may not be right for you due to how many calories THEY burn a day.

  1. BASIC METABOLIC RATE - factors like age, height etc can impact this
  2. DAILY EXERCISE EXPENDITURE - they can be more or less active then you.

Why not just Google calorie calculator and input your details to get a maintenance calorie goal ? Then track your calories for a month , and after that you probably don't need to strictly calorie count as you'll have an idea of how much food / what food you can eat on a daily basis.

This is a better approach.

It won’t be your intention OP, nor that of some of the PPs, but you won’t get a lot of helpful info just by asking people - there will be too much variation, limited honestly, and it’s triggering to some degree to a lot of people. Obviously no one who is a size 8 will be eating to excess, and that’s about all that will be consistent.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/06/2022 12:26

Whatever I want to be honest. I'm ambivalent about food so I never sit down to food just because I fancy it. I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm not hungry.

Yesterday I had:

  • Bowl of Frosties - Breakfast
  • A Pain au Chocolate - sort of lunch
  • Maltesers bar - snack
  • Chicken and leek pie with mash and broccoli - tea.
  • Couple of handfuls of Walkers Sensations.
  • Lots of cups of tea and a half bottle of apple juice to drink.
kagerou · 12/06/2022 12:29

breakfast usually crumpet + butter + marmite and ceral , sometimes other, sometimes nothing

rest of the day = whatever i like (but veg)

snacks usually fruit, crisps, chocolate, biscuits etc. or just anything thats around that i might fancy

Basically - not a diet or keeping myself to anything strict.

Maybe I'm just lucky but restricting what i ate or constantly thinking about it would be fucking miserable.

I stop eating when I'm full, never force myself to clear a plate, have big or small meals whenever i feel like it (so lunch could be either a full veggie burger and sides or it could be hummus and dips depending on what i want at that time), and i walk everywhere instead of driving (yes even if its 2 hours away)

I think im much healthier and happier for it and i wish more people (mostly women) would stop fixating on weight and just try to live an overall healthier life style and developer a healthier relationship with food instead

Icansleep · 12/06/2022 12:30

It's completely irrelevant what other people at a size 8 eat because there's so many other factors that affect weight gain/loss

SheilaWilde · 12/06/2022 12:30

There are literally hundreds of 'lose weight/what I eat in a day' threads but as soon as a person who is not trying to lose weight, who's a 'normal' and 'healthy' size the thread is jumped on as being 'unhealthy' and 'triggering'!

Just stay on the 'weight loss' threads if it annoys you so much!

I have always been a size6/8 and weight under 7 stone. I don't have an EA, Im just naturally this size. I have to be careful to actually eat enough. I have never been on a diet, apart from a 'reverse' diet to gain weight. I have spent my whole life having my weight commented on: 'oh you're soo skinny', 'you need some meat on your bones', 'have you lost weight?' For 50 years.

I eat reasonably healthily and walk my dog daily.

SpideySensesIsALoadOfShit · 12/06/2022 12:31

Three small meals a day. Wine. No snacks, ever.

EarringsandLipstick · 12/06/2022 12:34

who are you to nastily police now she describes it?

Not 'policing'. I don't like the expression; that's allowed.

Calm down.

WinterDeWinter · 12/06/2022 12:35

OP, I think it's really about portion size. I have twice as much on my plate as my tiny friend.

xsquared · 12/06/2022 12:36

Hallyup89 · 12/06/2022 12:09

Apart from it's not a normal diet, is it? Most say they skip meals and eat small portions.

I would say those who skip meals are in the minority actually. Most posters have literally listed what they had yesterday, not claiming portions being greater or smaller than anybody else's.

Nobody is encouraging anyone to do the same.

TheAverageUser · 12/06/2022 11:05

This is the most idiotic comment I've read on Mumsnet.

Me too because it doesn't make any sense.

Even if you were morbidly obese, you might have to limit your eating to maintain your size, or risk putting on even more weight.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 12/06/2022 12:36

I am terribly overweight but I like these threads, I find them interesting. I’ve tried every diet going and while some have worked (I lost 6 stone on slimming world) the results have never lasted, so now I’m just focusing on reducing the junk and increasing the fruit and veg without setting specific limits. I’m also not weighing myself daily or weekly like I used to, I’m just hoping I will eventually start to notice clothes getting looser/feeling a bit healthier but we shall see!
