Size 8s - what do you eat in a day?

user7637296 · 12/06/2022 08:46

Lost close to 1.5st and now a size eight. Feeling fantastic! I can wear whatever I want, and quite frankly after birthing 2 children, I feel damn proud of myself and feel sexy again.

Anyway, now for maintenance...

If you're a size 8, what do you eat in a day to maintain your size?

OP posts:
lljkk · 12/06/2022 09:49

Sometimes I fit size 8 trousers, 37" hips. I eat A LOT.

Yesterday was ...
5 or 6 chocolate brazil nuts
0.5 pints milk (with tea)
big tub of strawberries
2 cheese straws
1 small cheese scone with butter
3 peaches & porridge with peanut butter, jam, FF milk
mixed veg with samosa, jar sauce, lots of pasta, sunflower seeds
1/3 of a family size trifle with half a pot of family size cherry Yeo Valley yogurt

I'm going to have raspberries & porridge with peanut butter, jam, FF milk for breakfast now

Size 8s - what do you eat in a day?
SuziSecondLaw · 12/06/2022 09:56

Try and remember that for a 5 foot woman size 8 isn't skinny, but it is if you're 5"10.. Height is very relevant to these things.

Anyway, I'm 5"8, size 8. I eat a lot of junk food.. I also do weight training so I burn a lot off like that.

But its all nonsense anyway, metabolism etc determines it for most people.

becausetrampslikeus · 12/06/2022 09:59

You know what you have been eating to lose weight... keep with that and

Add a tiny bit extra to see if it's enough to keep you stable

An extra slice of toast or apple or a treat like a single biscuit

TheTeddyBears · 12/06/2022 10:00

Whatever I fancy. Although I don't eat lots and don't have big portions but I do eat a lot of rubbish. Mainly crisps that's my weakness I often have 3-4 packs a day sometimes 5 🙈 I usually skip bfast and have more a brunch then dinner and lots of snacks during the week.

Yesterday I had:

Breakfast
Roll and bacon
Orange juice

Lunch
Pot noodle
Crisps
Can of coke

Snack
Iced Doughnut
Cup of tea

Dinner
Chicken pakora, chips and salad
Strawberry milkshake

Snacks
Haribo, 2 packs of crisps

Ok that sounds so bad written down! Well I know I don't eat healthily but maybe particularly bad as it's the wkend!

I reckon I usually average about 1500 calories a day. Sometimes more 1200 and other days like yesterday probably more 2000+

Daenerys77 · 12/06/2022 10:04

Nothing if it's my fast day, otherwise whatever I want but in moderate quantities.

soootiredddd · 12/06/2022 10:05

@Glitterspy the title of the thread is very clear. If someone suffers from eating disorders they can very easily just not read the thread.

sorry but I’m fed up of people being policed on what they are and are not allowed to discuss because it might upset someone else. Even the mere possibility of “triggering” someone else is now apparently an offence. Someone will be along soon to say that MN is not a “safe space”. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? OP is not exactly enticing violence here. She’s asking a basic question. If you don’t like it don’t engage.

ifonly4 · 12/06/2022 10:10

Well done on your weight loss OP.

Breakfast is two slices toast, cereal or fruit and yogurt. Currently at work and have a cheese wrap, banana, two biscuits and nuts as a back up. I'm fairly active, don't like creamy items so use skimmed milk and can't eat massive meals. Rarely have desserts.

RepublicOfNarnia · 12/06/2022 10:15

Exercising regularly has helped me to be able to eat more or less whatever I want. I want to get into pilates but I can't seem to get in to it so so far I run about 15k a week and do strength training.

amicissimma · 12/06/2022 10:22

The fact that people of normal weight posting their food intake, which is generally quite normal and results in neither weight gain nor loss, is described as 'competitive undereating' might go some way to explain why there is apparently an obesity epidemic.

TibetanTerrah · 12/06/2022 10:22

Skinnermarink · 12/06/2022 09:03

Ooh another competitive under-eating/thinness thread, just what Mumsnet needs.

I hate to break it to you but if they're a size 8 they're not underweight or undereating.

Cashewwws · 12/06/2022 10:26

Breakfast - bran with blueberries and almond milk
coffee with oat milk

lunch - Greek salad with lentils or lentil pasta & Greek yogurt with flaked almonds on top

snacks - apples/cashews/popcorn

dinner - grilled veggies, sweet pot, pulses.

if im peckish before bed, I’ll have a small bowl of cereal with almond milk.

3L water a day.

This is average day for me during the week. On weekends I normally have a meal out and treat myself a bit :)

SuziSecondLaw · 12/06/2022 10:27

TibetanTerrah · 12/06/2022 10:22

I hate to break it to you but if they're a size 8 they're not underweight or undereating.

Depends on their height though.

Chooksnroses · 12/06/2022 10:27

If you have to limit your eating in order to maintain your size, perhaps you're too thin?

MarysShackles · 12/06/2022 10:31

Large coffee
Porridge
unsalted nuts & raisins
Large cup of tea
Sometimes more coffee
Pitta and soup
Maybe some fruit
crackers or breadsticks or oatcakes
More tea
good sized dinner of bolognese, spicy chicken and rice, meatballs with pasta or rice, roast dinner etc. always loads of veg.

This is an average day. Sometimes I eat more and sometimes (rarely) less. I drink about 4 pints of water a day as well as the tea and coffee but don’t drink any squash, fizzy drinks or juice.

im generally quite active but less so if I’m at work all day.

Thecrystalempire · 12/06/2022 10:31

Breakfast porridge and fruit.
Lunch- something like a bagel with cream cheese and fruit or scrambled egg on toast.
Dinner- normal stuff, home cooked. Takeaway probably once a month or so and maybe a maccies at the weekend.
Rarely snack. I think some of us are just blessed with not being hungry all the time, thinking about food all the time. So it comes easily to some.

TibetanTerrah · 12/06/2022 10:33

SuziSecondLaw · 12/06/2022 10:27

Depends on their height though.

That isn't the case. A woman much taller or shorter than average has to buy 'tall' or petite ranges and the size 8 is adjusted accordingly.

As for chooksnroses comment, probably the most ridiculous thing I've read all year.

Etinoxaurus · 12/06/2022 10:34

No breakfast, just don’t fancy it then normal ‘what I fancy’ food for the rest of the day. No dairy because the rest of the family is vegan or lactose intolerant. I also don’t drink alcohol- recovering alcoholic.

I’m definitely not a competitive under eater and can chow through a packet of biscuits if I’m bored, but like op I enjoy the feeling of being thin.
I’m also quite active, don’t sit for long and enjoy walking the dog, mowing the lawn etc. I’m the one who likes putting the tent up, pottering around doing chores getting washing on the line rather than looking for hacks. It’s not a virtue, just the way I’m wired.

amicissimma · 12/06/2022 10:34

Unlimited intake will lead to unlimited weight gain regardless of size.

Even a size 24 needs some limit on eating in order to maintain size, and I don't think many people would suggest size 24 is 'too thin'.

Agreeeeed · 12/06/2022 10:35

But what one person eats isn't relevant.

Just eat healthily & sensibly in line with what suits you.

(And 'birthing babies' 🤮)

What’s your problem with her asking? It’s just a curious question and she’s wondering what other people do to maintain their weight and consider what might work for her.
she hasn’t said she intends to copy someone else. Maybe she’s never maintained a lower weight before so she isn’t sure what will work/suit her. Surely that’s the point of a thread to be able to ask questions like this.

and yes she did birth two babies.
who are you to nastily police now she describes it?
delivered/birthed/became a mother. She did and stop knocking someone down for saying it.

Chooksnroses · 12/06/2022 10:27

If you have to limit your eating in order to maintain your size, perhaps you're too thin?

Or they're limiting their intake to stop themselves becoming overweight?

Lots of healthy eaters on this thread.. healthy food in quantities to maintain a healthy weight.

lljkk · 12/06/2022 10:37

I'm not convinced that "metabolism" & "genetics" explains a lot.

This article says (with references) that the variation in resting metabolic rate from mean is about 16%, to cover 96% of population. There seem to be lots of freaks of nature on MN in the 4%.

SuziSecondLaw · 12/06/2022 10:40

TibetanTerrah · 12/06/2022 10:33

That isn't the case. A woman much taller or shorter than average has to buy 'tall' or petite ranges and the size 8 is adjusted accordingly.

The length is adjusted accordingly.. It's still a size 8. Height most definitely does matter. A size 12 is slim on a 5"10 woman, definitely not on a 4"10 woman..

steelseries · 12/06/2022 10:41

Size 8 is a perfectly normal, healthy size to be. Nothing "unhealthy" about it. There are plenty of other threads about maintenance, not sure why this one in particular should be "triggering". Stop policing the thread and just ignore it.

OP:

  • Breakfast: just coffee normally. I don't tend to get hungry until lunch.
  • Lunch: usually vegetarian: a wrap or salad, maybe soup and bread with hummus. Or pizza / vegan kebab in a pitta.
  • Dinner: chilli and rice, pasta, burger or curry (takeaways couple of times a week)
user7637296 · 12/06/2022 10:45

Sorry on the height thing I'm 5"6.

Hips are 36"

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've been maintaining my weight for a week now with similar pattern to most of you on here who have posted a breakdown of daily food, so I think I'm in good company!

To some of the snarky comments on here I'm a bit confused because I've seen threads on here before with titles "if you're a size 12 what do you eat" type stuff.

OP posts:
artisanbread · 12/06/2022 10:45

I eat cereal and toast for breakfast, usually cup a soup and packet of crisps or a sandwich for lunch, with a piece of fruit. Dinner is family meal - pasta, fajitas, fish and chips etc. Often have yoghurt or something like that for dessert. I am a terrible grazer though and can't really total up how many snacks I have during the day. Usually combinations of things like biscuits, slice of cake, cheese and crackers, mini-babybels, dark chocolate.
