Best gig/concert you've ever seen?

Went to see The Killers last night and without a doubt the best live performance I have ever seen!
The set up was amazing, Brandons vocals were amazing just everything was so good! Now i feel like i have the concert blues...... is that a thing? I'd forgotten how amazing live music is.

Anyway, now I've got back into live music again after so long with Covid I was wondering who is the best band/person you have seen live? And why?

P!nk was just incredible when I saw her in 2019. Flying around the stadium, hanging upside down, all while singing live - amazing voice and so so talented.

I also saw my idol Michael Jackson in 1997 which was amazing - the dancing obviously was just perfect (but was so in love with him I'd have loved it even if he had sat on stage and done nothing 😂)

Killers are amazing live, I agree.

I've been to some amazing gigs but Fever Ray in 2011 (I think) was the best concert I've ever been to.

Some other honourable mentions are Bon Jovi (cringe I know!) Bruce Springsteen and Radiohead

In a 'super simple stage set up, all about the music' way, Whiskey Myers who I saw in 2019. The sort of performance honed by touring your butts off for years, incredible stagecraft in a small venue. DH who only knew one song was blown away.

We're going to see Rammstein next month, and their stage show is supposed to be absolutely incredible especially the pyrotechnics, so looking forward to that.

But the best gig ever was the Freddie Mercury tribute concert - the acts and the atmosphere was once in a lifetime

Prince in London in 1986, I was 3rd row from the front.
Blondie a few years ago in Belfast, I got to touch Debbies hand 😄
Neil Diamond 50th anniversary tour, Belfast, just before he retired from touring.
The Revolution a couple of years ago in London, it was very emotional.
The Specials in the Ulster Hall, really good seats, sound and crowd.

Kings of Leon at Glastonbury 2008. It was amazing. They just went through all the songs one after the other. No pomp and ceremony. Saw a band called Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever the other week and they were brilliant. Royal blood 2009 also incredible.

Also strangely billy bragg a few years ago

Great to hear this OP, we’re seeing the Killers in Manchester on Saturday, looking forward to it. We saw them at the Singapore Grand Prix in Sept 2018 and they were just fab!

Featuredcreature · 10/06/2022 13:29

I think my favourite ever is Frank Black & the catholics at a tiny venue in my town 2001. Awesome even though there wasn't a full band. It was the first proper gig I had been to, had seen Robbie Williams the year before, but don't count that haha.

Crunchymum · 10/06/2022 13:30

I came to sat K.O.L too. At the O2.

Astounding.

PashunFroot · 10/06/2022 13:31

Rammstein. Hands down. Their show is unbeatable.

nokitchen · 10/06/2022 13:32

Probably Gary Glitter many years ago... but..

RJnomore1 · 10/06/2022 13:34

Nick cave. Any time and every time. I’ve never seen another performer connect with a huge audience like that or feed off them and give so much energy back.

Nothing compares and I’ve seen many many many gigs.

I took my youngest to see the killers earlier this week and it was just amazing! We both had a blast.

I totally get what you mean as it's been a while since I have went to see a band and it's really woken up that desire to enjoy live music again.

Went to see Olivia Newton John in America in 1982. Absolutely awesome , definitely best concert I've been to. Virtually single handedly performed for 90 minutes (obviously with backing vocals and the band), no props, no dancers, minimal special effects, just 90 minutes of hard graft, dancing round the stage, etc - she must have been absolutely knackered - so much energy and enthusiasm, and one of the best female singers too! Definitely the full package!

StopStartStop · 10/06/2022 14:10

Idlewild at Manchester University the night the bus broke down or they were held up in traffic - some transport issue - and they didn't go on until 11.30. That night Rod showed himself to be a true rock god.

So jealous, i think it's their last UK date of their current tour. If they had more dates i prob would try and go again.

Probably Gary Glitter many years ago... but..

Ouch!

I was at university with a woman who said his gigs were the greatest, and used to hang out with the band after shows. No hint of anything dodgy at all!

peachgreen · 10/06/2022 14:11

Low at the Union Chapel. Absolutely perfect venue for them and it changed my life as I didn't really know their music before but left their biggest fan.

Yes it has for me too. I'm seeing Anne Marie in July but not sure she's going to get anywhere close to The Killers...... completely different genre though i guess.

I’m fortunate to have sen many great live acts, Prince, INXS, U2, Muse, Whitney Houston are just the ones I can remember.

For consistency, OMD have to be the best, their energy is amazing and I’ve never been to a bad gig.

But best concert ever has to be Simple Minds on their recent tour. The band were in amazing form, relaxed and very sure of their brilliance without being arrogant. Circumstances combined such that it felt like the whole concert was just for me and my partner (Jim sang lots of bits of songs to us) , and we didn’t come down for a week.

So what makes a great concert is lots of different things all coming together.

I would say these are pretty high up in my list for bands to see! I was obsessed with their Only by the night album

Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Robbie Williams, Neil Diamond, Foo Fighters, OMD recently were perfect!

ClinkeyMonkey · 10/06/2022 14:21

Simply Red were fantastic, way back. Mick Hucknall's voice was flawless.

I've been to a few, but am not really a live concert kinda gal. Was mostly going to keep other people company, even when it was an artist I loved. I would climb over anybody who got in my way if there was any chance of seeing Kate Bush though!!

PeggyGa · 10/06/2022 14:25

Billy Elish this week

YungDumbThrills · 10/06/2022 14:25

Robbie Williams at Knebworth. First time I saw him live, the atmosphere was unbelievable.
