Went to see The Killers last night and without a doubt the best live performance I have ever seen!
The set up was amazing, Brandons vocals were amazing just everything was so good! Now i feel like i have the concert blues...... is that a thing? I'd forgotten how amazing live music is.

Anyway, now I've got back into live music again after so long with Covid I was wondering who is the best band/person you have seen live? And why?

INXS on my 17th birthday. You could've literally wrung my knickers out by the end. Sorry. 😊

Hermione101 · 10/06/2022 19:55

Kate Bush in Hammersmith in 2014, Bjork at Osheaga in Montreal, Tori Amos. All unreal energy.

We were at the Killers last weekend, dd made us stand in queues, then in a sardine-tin crush for hours so we could be close to the stage.

'This had better be worth it,' I muttered.

It bloody was. Absolutely incredible.

At breakfast next morning dd was telling me how they couldn't get a record deal in their early days because Brandon wasn't 'front man material'. How wrong can you be?!

While we were queuing we chatted to another mum and dd couple who had been to their pre-tour intimate gig in Sheffield - JEALOUS!

My best ever is probably a Pogues gig I went to in Swansea in 1988 though. The atmosphere was everything.

My favourite live band is always Korn.

AC/DC was brilliant.

I've been to thousands over the years, the ones that stand out.

Bon Jovi
muse
Slipknot
christina Aguilera
incubus
biffy
foos
Pixies

Peaches, NOT remembered for a good gig. Was weird as fuck.

bands I hated that were awesome live : limp bizkit, Sum 41

been to some musically brilliant gigs with the parents over the years, seeing their favourite bands that id sing along with the radio to but not listen to on purpose: lynyrd skynyrd/deep purple, Michael schenker/UFO/Scorpions, thin lizzy, black sabbath.

Robbie Williams at Milton Keynes, with Basement Jaxx as support.

@LadyHelenaJustina basement jaxx were amazing at that. Possibly better than Robbie.

snow patrol just as they hit big. Best gig ever. Small venue with a crowd who were absolutely up for it.

aksimon · 10/06/2022 20:09

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Brixton Academy, 1996. Amazing.

Yea i recently found this out too. He couldn't get a deal in the US and signed to an indie record label here in the UK. Also their first song 'Somebody told me' was released as a different version but didn't do well and then it was re released as the song we now know.

I know they were very wrong!

I saw Niall Rodgers and Chic last night and they were actually the best band I can remember seeing. So polished and the number of songs he's written is just stunning. The Killers in Manchester a few years ago were brilliant too.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/06/2022 20:24

Well Queen in 1980 is quite hard to beat 😬

The Twang at the V Festival 2008 is absolutely etched on my mind for many many reasons, not just the music

BitOutOfPractice · 10/06/2022 20:24

The killers are incredible live.

ShirleyJackson · 10/06/2022 20:26

Prince at the O2 in 2007, and again in Leeds in 2014. He was a genius from another world, his guitar was part of his body, and I swear he danced with his feet three inches off the floor.

WildRosie · 10/06/2022 20:27

I've seen Neil Diamond twice, in 1989 at Birmingham and 1992 in Sheffield. The '89 show was better; for some reason, the sound at Sheffield Arena wasn't that good.

Dudley Moore Trio and the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Manchester G-MEX in 1992. Great show. Full house. At the age of 21, I was probably the youngest audience member. Rhapsody in Blue was magnificent.

PicpoulDeMeNay · 10/06/2022 20:31

Muse - absolutely awesome!

Think it was at the Emirates, Dizzee Rascal and Bastille supported. Apart from Muse being awesome, singing Bonkers at the top of my voice was great fun!

ShirleyJackson · 10/06/2022 20:33

@thing47 - DH and I were there too! Unbelievable!

On the other end of the scale, I went to see Carter USM at Hull Tower Ballroom on the 30Something tour.

They were fucking brilliant Grin

LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket · 10/06/2022 20:34

@Welshmaenad agree about Lissie...we saw her acoustic set in Birmingham on her Piano Retrospective tour and her voice is just incredible.

Absolutely gutted I couldn't get to see The Killers recently. Always love their interactions with the audience for Reasons Unknown when they get somebody up to play the drums!

ShirleyJackson · 10/06/2022 20:36

We saw Lissie at Camp Bestival. She was late because of a traffic jam, was one of the first performers of the weekend, and played barefoot in an almost-empty tent. She was brilliant. I think she’s so underrated.

I saw Marc Almond that same weekend, and he was totally fantastic too.

SuziSecondLaw · 10/06/2022 20:36

Went to a very small (little bar in Manchester) gig a few months ago that was pure perfection.. James Bay 😊 He was brilliant, and very engaging with the crowd etc. It was also my dps first ever gig, so that made it extra special.

Wolfie11 · 10/06/2022 20:38

I saw The Killers this week too, they were amazing! I loved The Script when I saw them as well.

ShirleyJackson · 10/06/2022 20:41

You’ve got me thinking now…

Margo Price at The Brudenell, Leeds.
The Levellers played at a local music festival a few years ago and nearly took the roof off.
Bombay Bicycle Club totally rocked, which came as a surprise. They were fantastic.
INXS at Wembley in 1991. Michael Hutchence was the sexiest person I’ve ever seen in real life. Jesus.
Loved Fleetwood Mac when I saw them in about 2015ish. Might have cried at Landslide.

Trulyweird1 · 10/06/2022 20:46

Well I am old, and lockdown seriously hampered my access to live music but here are some highlights, in no particular order
Simply Red
Simple Minds
Eagles at Hampden ( not sure they could quite believe the road)
Bad Company at the Armadillo in Glasgow
Jack Savoretti
Eric Clapton with Robert Cray
and very strangely - Garth Brooks - a real showman

Vetoncall · 10/06/2022 20:46

Muse (5 times), Fleetwood Mac (3 times) and Springsteen are all incredible live. U2 are my favourite band though, I've seen them live 14 times in 5 different countries. First time was the Zoo TV tour in Dublin, I was only 11 and I still remember it.

I saw The Killers waaaay back when they'd only released maybe one single, they were the support act for U2 in Cardiff. They weren't great, Brandon was very stiff and seemed overwhelmed by the huge stage and the massive crowd who were desperate to see U2. I've seen them twice since then though and they were much better, I would definitely go to see them again.

feellikeanalien · 10/06/2022 20:50

Genesis at the Amsterdam Arena in 2007
Eric Clapton supported by Muddy Waters a very long time ago in Glasgow.
Simple Minds in Lisbon in 2002. We were right and the front and DP kept saying that Charlie Burchill was looking at me.😁
Roger Waters also in Lisbon in 2002. Did loads of Pink Floyd stuff as well as his own. DP and I were blown away.

FruityPolos · 10/06/2022 20:51

Nine Inch Nails at Brixton Academy 1999. Such a great gig. I remember the lighting / staging being really good and everyone jumping up and down singing head like a hole 😁

Jack Off Jill at Heaven in London 2015 was special as I never thought I would get to see them live.

Seen Therapy? live loads, their gigs are always such feel good events, I always come away smiling.

Band I wish I could have seen live is Joy Division but I was only 8 months old when Ian Curtis died.

motogirl · 10/06/2022 21:02

The killers, though not the gig I saw 2 weeks ago, I saw them 4 years ago, smaller venue I was front row standing, and they were unbelievably good.

Also really enjoyed many concerts - great mark ronson set at a festival, pulp back in the 90's, lady gaga was good as was Taylor swift, saw the pet shop boys a long time ago who were very good, as was Eurasia.

Best concert ever is hard ... Peter Gabriel Glastonbury 1994

motogirl · 10/06/2022 21:03

@teaandtoastwithmarmite

I saw billy bragg too at a festival, he did my head in because he ranted on for half his slot! He was good though
