Best gig/concert you've ever seen?

Went to see The Killers last night and without a doubt the best live performance I have ever seen!
The set up was amazing, Brandons vocals were amazing just everything was so good! Now i feel like i have the concert blues...... is that a thing? I'd forgotten how amazing live music is.

Anyway, now I've got back into live music again after so long with Covid I was wondering who is the best band/person you have seen live? And why?

Thin Lizzy, but Judie Tzuke was ace and Hawkwind were always superb.

TattiePants · 10/06/2022 21:47

I saw The Killers about 10 years ago at Wembley and they were indeed excellent. They were supported by James (also very good) which reminded me of my teenage years, particularly sitting down on the floor of The palace nightclub in Blackpool singing Sit Down!

My best ever was seeing Blur in June 2009 at The Academy in Newcastle. They’d been away from the music scene for a long time but were playing at one of the festivals that summer and did a few warmup gigs first. It’s a pretty small venue and the atmosphere was amazing. We hadn’t planned to go and just bought the tickets from a guy in the pub an hour before. It was also a memorable night as rumours started to go round that Michael Jackson had died, which were later confirmed.

Pink Floyd at Wembley Stadium in 1988 - inflatable pig era. Was truly amazing.

Steel Panther in 2016 were awesome

My first ever concert when I was 9 with my parents seeing The Cranberries at Wembley Stadium. It has always stayed with me, I was blown away by her voice. Seen many bands since and enjoyed Faith No More a lot, Mike Patton is god!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/06/2022 22:13

@motogirl what a shame. When we saw him it was all his nice love songs and was actually quite a lovely and even romantic gig for me and then DP

@Welshmaenad agree about Lissie...we saw her acoustic set in Birmingham on her Piano Retrospective tour and her voice is just incredible.

Absolutely gutted I couldn't get to see The Killers recently. Always love their interactions with the audience for Reasons Unknown when they get somebody up to play the drums!

I saw the same tour, in Bristol, she was phenomenal. She was over here again in April, I didn't book tickets as it was a bit convoluted with childcare, but as it happens I had covid that weekend anyway. My friend went and said she was amazing as per.

The killers, though not the gig I saw 2 weeks ago, I saw them 4 years ago, smaller venue I was front row standing, and they were unbelievably good.

Also really enjoyed many concerts - great mark ronson set at a festival, pulp back in the 90's, lady gaga was good as was Taylor swift, saw the pet shop boys a long time ago who were very good, as was Eurasia.

Best concert ever is hard ... Peter Gabriel Glastonbury 1994

I've seen Mark Ronson in ibiza and was underwhelmed although he was swigging from a vodka bottle so I can't say he was really trying to impress the crowd 😂

The original Queen with Freddy were amazing followed by Robbie Williams, Bonjovi, Meatloaf & Springsteen are the best I’ve seen. I’m really looking forward to next year seeing Springsteen again in Barcelona and Dublin.

TPau, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, The Proclaimers, Texas and Guns n’ Roses are close seconds to the above.

I’ve seen the Red Hot Chilli Pipers more times than I care to remember as well as Biffy. Both are really good bands but not my taste in music tbh. I’m probably one of the few who know where Biffy’s name came from 😂

Mintchocchip1 · 10/06/2022 22:38

Actually that's made me think of another. I saw Avicii in ibiza he was amazing and the lazer light show took it up a level. Shame he is no longer with us.

David Bowie in MK was superb, saw U2 and Michael Jackson there too who was incredible, I know his name is mud these days but he was an amazing performer. Saw Prince and Peter Gabriel, both amazing.

Bad Manners and Siouxie and the Banshees back in the day, loved all that. Orbital at Glastonbury stays with me. Jean Michel Jarre excellent, love electronic dance music. Seeing Faithless just after the awful mass shooting in Paris felt very poignant.

Just went to Creamfields last weekend. So fantastic to see young people and crowds loving live music again, such a joy. Pete Tong, DJ I know but omg he was superb.

Mintchocchip1 · 10/06/2022 22:42

I also remember a gig that Ben Howard did in my hometown. Was a smallish place. This was the first time I'd seen him and I thought he was so good! I then booked to see him at the Ally Pally, completely different, was so flat. He came across arrogant which was a shame as I liked him the 1st time round.

pulp headlining glastonbury for the first time;
smiths at the hacienda 1982;
simple minds same year;
lambchop royal festival hall;

most recent scritti politti at a tiny chapel in cardiff-amazing.

I think I am pretty identifiable from this…

diningiswest · 10/06/2022 22:47

Oh and the Waterboys in Kilburn

Rabidturnip · 10/06/2022 22:47

The Prodigy. The energy, the buzz, everything. They were flawless.

YerAWizardHarry · 10/06/2022 22:48

My first ever festival was T in the Park in 2009 as a 16 year old, Kings of Leon headlined the Friday and The Killers headlined the Saturday. The best experience ever!

thing47 · 10/06/2022 22:50

Yes, and The Gaslight Anthem, who are DH's all-time favourite band. He is very excited at the recent news that they have re-formed and are touring and doing a new album later in the year. That would probably be his choice for best gig – James, The Gaslight Anthem and The Killers.

Wake Me Up is one of my favourite songs ever @Mintchocchip1 , I always put it on when I want cheering up. Despite Avicii's tragic demise I will always love that song. Would have loved to see him live.

Nat6999 · 11/06/2022 00:07

The Jam Brighton 1980, final gig before they split.
Live Aid 1985, the best day of my life.
Wham The Final at Wembley 1986
David Bowie Serious Moonlight tour Milton Keynes
Madonna like a virgin tour.

There aren't as many big gigs like there used to be, Wembley with 70k is the best I have ever known & the acts that were on were amazing.

Nat6999 · 11/06/2022 00:08

Paul Weller & The Who at Hyde Park as well.

Andante57 · 11/06/2022 00:11

Lang Lang in Amsterdam. The Concertgebow (sp?) is beautiful and atmospheric and lovely repertoire played by an incredible pianist.

GreenLunchBox · 11/06/2022 00:11

Michael Jackson, early 90s. Simply amazing. Hard to put into words.

Have been to loads of concerts since and none have been even 1% as good

Mintchocchip1 · 11/06/2022 08:33

Thanks everyone I'm loving this thread!

Alot of people are saying Muse! I quite liked them years ago

I had to come back to this thread and say @BobbinThreadbare123 and @Brbreeze were absolutely right, and Rammstein who I saw last night were the absolute best show I have ever, ever seen. From start to finish, no talking, no faffing around, just pure spectacle from 8-10.30. Never seen anything like it

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/06/2022 06:57

@CMOTDibbler I am very jealous of anyone who went TBH. Last time I saw them was in Milton Keynes a few years ago. They better come back to the UK soon!!

I saw Niall Rodgers and Chic last night and they were actually the best band I can remember seeing. So polished and the number of songs he's written is just stunning. The Killers in Manchester a few years ago were brilliant too.

Yeah, the Irish tribute act. They are f*&king brilliant.😀

Age is a terrible thing. I think you mean 1978?
