This little fella flew into my living room 🦇

Saw something out then corner of my eye and thought it was a moth. Then had two hours of it swooping then resting. Windows, front and back doors opened - it wouldn’t blooming leave.

Contained it in the living room when I went to bed. Phoned the bat helpline today - got to try the same again tonight. Am now sat here waiting for him to emerge from wherever he’s been hiding all day.

awwwww

He's cute. What have you given him to eat?

DeadButDelicious · 07/06/2022 20:03

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! He's so cute! I love bats! Following with interest! 🦇🖤

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 07/06/2022 20:05

Awwww, yes this has happened here more than once. Sorry to have to tell you it took HOURS AND HOURS for the bat to find its way out of the massive open bifold doors. It got to the point where it was so tired it was flying barely off the ground, but it did manage it eventually. Cute but surprisingly dim (just kidding 😀)

playtest12 · 07/06/2022 20:09

BAT!

UselessTrees · 07/06/2022 20:11

Catch him Derry!

Furries · 07/06/2022 20:13

The bat crew said I didn’t need to worry about feeding it at this point.

I wish I had wide bifold doors! It’s a cottage, so not the largest of windows. The front and back door are just standard door width. Wish it had flown into my bedroom, it’s got huge windows that open all the way back. I can’t leave everything open downstairs overnight, so let’s hope he finds his way out (if he reappears, god knows where he’s been hiding).

And it’s not easy to follow their website’s containment advice as the beamed ceiling is 8ft- high and I’m a short-arse 🤣

Omg I love these and watch them in the garden at dusk but have never encountered one indoors 😄 good luck with getting him out

Elderflower14 · 07/06/2022 20:19

Ds2 is autistic.. We took him to London Zoo when he was six... He was fascinated by the bats. He's 25 now and is still mad about them!

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 07/06/2022 20:19

Hope it goes out tonight for you. Fingers crossed. At least it’s your living room and not the bedroom 😄
My cat swatted one out of the air as it swooped just a few weeks ago. (My house and patio is raised compared to the garden). Got it off the cat and it crawled up the front of the house and spent the night and day under the first floor windowsill recovering. It tried to bite me when I got it off the cat, luckily it was a pipistrelle and it couldn’t manage it!
I looked up the bat helpline as I thought I would be stuck with it and was taken aback to see that bat bites are taken extremely seriously as there’s a potential of getting rabies. I’ve taken a previous bat off the cat, it hung upside down on my finger for a moment, then flew off. After reading about bats I will never handle one again unless I’ve got thick gloves on.
They’re always flying low when I go into the garden after dusk, I’m always afraid that they will be fly into me as they come quite close.
It’s very rare that you get to see them so close up! Yours has big ears, do you know which it is?

🥰

Hope it finds a way out of your house soon.

I’d be calling it Guillermo.

DeadButDelicious · 07/06/2022 20:24

He looks like a brown long eared bat to me.

I think we should call him Laszlo!

Aaaand.., patient Zero identified as a middle-class mother of ? from Uk😳

dubyalass · 07/06/2022 20:33

Yeah probably brown long-eared I reckon (grey long-eared are much less common). They are usually late to leave the roost of an evening (unlike pipistrelles) so it might wait until well after dark before making a move outside.

Furries · 07/06/2022 20:37

I’m guessing the same re bat type.

Keep the names coming - maybe we can create a long daft name, like they have at crufts.

I’ve got my thick gardening gloves nearby, remembered to get them from the shed earlier.

Don't get me wrong, I do love them from afar, but if that had been in my house I'd be over the hills and far away, and he'd still be sat there with the house to himself!

🤣. Zero kids - if I’m patient zero, you may all be ok. It would probably take days for anyone to find my body!

I'd go with:
One window open. All other windows and doors closed. All lights off so the open window is the brightest thing in the room.
Hopefully the bat will fly out.
I'm not a 🦇 expert, but it works for birds!

Normal 👍🏼😁

AlphaAlpha · 07/06/2022 21:03

Batfink!

Furries · 07/06/2022 21:12

I’m feeling like a bit of an idiot, sat here with no lights on as the daylight gradually fades. No streetlights here, so gets very dark in the house. Will have to stay on MN so I have the light of my screen.

I’m thinking of calling him Steve. No idea why, that’s the name that came to mind when he was hanging upside down and staring at me last night.

heidbuttsupper · 07/06/2022 21:14

Please call him Ballonz Grin
