This little fella flew into my living room 🦇

Saw something out then corner of my eye and thought it was a moth. Then had two hours of it swooping then resting. Windows, front and back doors opened - it wouldn’t blooming leave.

Contained it in the living room when I went to bed. Phoned the bat helpline today - got to try the same again tonight. Am now sat here waiting for him to emerge from wherever he’s been hiding all day.

@SlatsandFlaps They did it through the Bat World Sanctuary.

I may have also adopted a bat through the Bat Conservation Trust this afternoon as well. 😶😁🦇

Oh, I love this! Thank you for highlighting it and I’m going to do the same.

@MrsMAgain - wow, sounds like a great bat history with your property - what a lovely ongoing story.

He definitely hadn’t left. When I finally needed to call it a night he was hanging upside down from one of my ceiling beams. I did say “goodnight” as I closed the door to the room.

You’re right, though, it’s fascinating how fast they are and how silent they are. He was doing loops like crazy, yet his wings didn’t make a sound.

Ha, I was going to try to come up with a witty response to that query, but I think you’ve nailed it.

Still no sign, I hope he’s ok. I won’t drag the thread out with “nothing” updates, but wanted to respond to today’s posts.

This is why i won't sleep with windows open
They say its rare they fly in a house but seems a far few on here have had it happen
Its the rabies aspect that scares me more so
We have them near us and my mum has lots flying in her garden , when they come out I go in

From the small amount I’ve read, it seems that rabies is not common in U K bats. Yes, still a small risk, but not common.

From what I’ve read, bats don’t set out to “attack” you. Considering Steve was flying/hanging around my living room for over 2 hours, he did everything to avoid me. His flying/avoidance skills were seriously impressive in a contained area. I already knew, from prior years, how good they are at swooping past in the garden!

The small risk comes if you get to the point of containing them. If it gets to that point, always wear thick gloves - they may bite or scratch, but only in panic/self-defence.

Aww lovely! My SIL works as a bat conservationist I think it is so I know who I can call if one comes in our house. She goes into woods counting bats 😀
