about an hour ago I transfered £6,000 from one account to another. Got a text to verify I made the transfer replied back with Y and got text to say transfer successful. However still not showing on account? Although it has been deducted from the account I sent.

I called bank I transfered from and he said it has been released and to wait till midnight.

i’m so worried. Has this happened to anyone else?

I sent £10 first to make sure and that came through quick

Have you transferred to this account before?

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 21:23

@hugoagogo yes I regularly transfer money to and from same account

Just to be clear, same branch? And what was the destination account type?

hugoagogo · 03/06/2022 21:23

Ah yes that is what I would have done too.
It will probably be fine.

stairgates · 03/06/2022 21:23

Maybe because its a larger amount and needs additional money laundering checks? Check your sending bank for confirmation of the numbers you sent it to.

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 21:25

@TargusEasting two different branches. Both accounts basic visa debit accounts

I had this with Santander on Wednesday. I transferred £5000 and received the same texts you described. Funds exited my account immediately but arrived at destination account about 3 hours later.

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 21:25

@stairgates but it passed the fraud so dont know how its taking so long to show up

OP posts:
WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 21:26

@MitherTheresa thank you so much for sharing that!

I hope that is the case. Really sleepy but pondering about this

Could also be something to do with the bank holiday? Lots of banks do maintenance etc so your online account might not be up-to-date until midnight or 4am.

piratehugs · 03/06/2022 21:35

I moved £10 the other day to be absolutely sure I had all details correct. Arrived instantly. Then I moved the rest of my life savings. Took three days to reappear. [that emoji with the green hair that shoots up in the air]

This. I've been in the same situation OP and it was the bank holiday. Also, if it's an unusual amount to transfer for you, they might come back with further checks. I've had this happen too.

Michellebops · 03/06/2022 21:37

It's a bank holiday remember and not all transactions are fast pay /same day.
It will be there

Hulahihi · 03/06/2022 21:42

This happened to me with my HSBC account. I transferred £5 fine then straight after transferred £7000 and it disappeared. I got a call about 6 hours later to verify that it was me and then they released it.

justamushypea · 03/06/2022 21:43

Some banks update overnight
My credit card does that. The money leaves my bank but takes a day or so to come off the card.

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 21:50

Ah thanks guys so I will have my phone on loud just incase they do call. @piratehugs 3 days!!! My blood pressure would go up 🤣

I think it’s because it’s a large amount of money. I remember when I was transferring money to a solicitor, it felt like it was taking ages!

no, that’s an excuse banks like to make you believe. There is absolutely no reason as to why they should withhold a tiny amount of money like that apart from the fact that if they do this to all the transactions that go through them on a big scale, they will make a decent amount of interest.
6k won’t raise alarm bells as a one off payment. In fact, it is nothing compared to the big transactions that many other bank acc holders do every single minute…
electronic transfers are electronic and instantaneous and automated! They like to make you believe that there’s some legit reason behind the delay when in fact it’s done on purpose.

Festivalpartygirl · 03/06/2022 21:53

This happened to me before with Monzo, always transferred straight away apart from one time it took hours, it’s a stressful time when large amounts of money.

Shitscared123 · 03/06/2022 21:54

My dad transferred a grand to me and he was told it would arrive 3 days later into my account. It was weird as not a huge amount.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 03/06/2022 21:55

It happened to me with a £10k transfer. Showed up the following day. Don't worry

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 21:56

I have a feeling won’t be getting this tonight. To be honest if it’s released and passed security I don’t know why it’s still not showing up :(
