about an hour ago I transfered £6,000 from one account to another. Got a text to verify I made the transfer replied back with Y and got text to say transfer successful. However still not showing on account? Although it has been deducted from the account I sent.

I called bank I transfered from and he said it has been released and to wait till midnight.

i’m so worried. Has this happened to anyone else?

@Blowyourowntrumpet ah okay thanks for that

Yep, and it’s terrifying! I was just transferring between accounts on my banking app (current to ISA). It was a sizeable chunk, and it disappeared from one, but did NOT appear in the other. I felt so sick. Just closed the app.

opened the app later that day and there it was. It’s never happened with transfers of three figures but four seems to be the sticking point! (And probably more than four!! But I’m grateful not to have had that particular ‘problem’ haha)

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 03/06/2022 21:58

Yes, this has happened to me. They sometimes delay large transfers.

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 22:04

@NeededAction @ILoveAllRainbowsx will update all hopefully when I get it. Just cant sleep waiting for it.

If it is an unusual transaction (ie a much higher figure than normal) going into an account, the receiving bank might be conducting its own money-laundering checks. They have tightened up on a lot of things just lately, and have algorithms to pick them up.

Also, a lot of banks often do systems maintenance on bank holidays or overnight at weekends, so things can take longer to appear and some functions might be unavailable for a short time.

Figgygal · 03/06/2022 22:11

Hope it comes through soon

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 22:12

This happened to us when we transferred our mortgage deposit! Just because it was such a high amount, apparently totally normal

mypinkslippers · 03/06/2022 22:15

Yes, it happened with my pay. I'm self-employed and the person had paid me many times from their account to mine. This time it did not show and I panicked also as it was a lot of money. Apparently their bank flagged it as possible fraud, and that's why it took a while; they had to sort that after the bank phoned. I got the money after that, the next day.

CornishTiger · 03/06/2022 22:16

Try to relax. The good news is you did a test payment first and it went through

sundayweatherwatch · 03/06/2022 22:19

This always happens when I transfer between accounts (same bank), usually for large amounts. It will be 100% fine don't worry!

tulips27 · 03/06/2022 22:22

Check again just after midnight.

Thinkyoung · 03/06/2022 22:31

There was a message on either santander or natwest last night to say that site would be down for maintainance. If it were me i would get through to bank lost or stolen card option and hopefully someone may be able to help o.p

Nothappyatwork · 03/06/2022 22:33

Please tell me that the Natwest is not involved in this transaction

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 22:36

@Nothappyatwork not natwest. Barclays and halifax

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 22:37

kateandme · 03/06/2022 22:51

Natwest does maintenance at night.every night they don't work from 2.20 ish til 4 ish and it doesn't let you log in or do anything.hope that helps people who might be worried.

UrsulaPandress · 03/06/2022 23:11

This happened to me with a large amount. Took a few hours. I was very twitchy. And mine was the same bank and a simple transfer between two accounts on my banking app.

EmotionalSupportWyrm · 03/06/2022 23:15

WhatHappenedD · 03/06/2022 22:38

please don't worry - it often takes a while for transactions to show. It happens to me all the time - I still get that "heart in mouth" panic, but every single time it's gone through without any problem. We've just got so used to transactions happening instantly that we panic when it's not! I'm old enough to remember the three day delay on any money showing 😱

SarahDippity · 03/06/2022 23:56

This really frustrates me. The technology is there for it to move immediately but it is sitting in some holding (bank) account earning interest for some other entity rather than in your account. I imagine on any given day there are billions waiting in ‘pending’ which individuals don’t have the earning benefit of but banks do. If I transfer money to pay my credit card bill, it exits my current account immediately but can take 2-3 days to appear as a credit on my bill. Where is my money in the interim??

OP, I’m certain it will show up, but it makes no sense to me, this delay.

WhatHappenedD · 04/06/2022 05:15

It’s still not there.. really panicking now :((((
