Boring question about hanging washing out

jubileetrain · 03/06/2022 08:14

When do you do it?

Some days I'm up at 6am and we have bright sunshine but I'm not sure if I will look ridiculous hanging washing out so early!

Today the sky is white cloud, not a bit of sunshine. Would you hang washing out?

I know the rules about not leaving it to get darked on, and the spider willies, but no one has actually told me when the right time to hang it is!

I was a serial tumble dryer user prior to this year when for various reasons, but now I'm able to hang washing I want to get it right Blush

If it’s dry outside hang it out . Don’t overthink it!

KangarooKenny · 03/06/2022 08:16

Yes, I hang out any time after 5am when I’m up early due to peri menopause !
I also hang out overnight if it’s going to be dry 😱

BeeYellowMumma · 03/06/2022 08:17

All day, and if I know the next day will he sunny ill even hang some in the evening.

mimimomma · 03/06/2022 08:17

Of course, go for it! I start work at 7, so often have to peg out washing at 6am so that it dries throughout the day.

Peridot1 · 03/06/2022 08:19

Just hang it up whenever suits you. I tend to hang out in the morning and take in around 5/5.30.

My mother and all of her neighbours hung out whenever and would even leave out overnight. We all survived! And so did the washing.

erikbloodaxe · 03/06/2022 08:19

The actual rules for hanging out washing are....... put it out when you like and bring it in when you like. As long as it's not raining it will dry.

Delilahwasframed · 03/06/2022 08:19

Hang it out at any time. I also leave it out overnight. I do check the weather forecast. I don’t have a tumble dryer.

PurBal · 03/06/2022 08:19

Oh yes. The washing machine timer is my favourite thing so it’s ready to go out at the crack
of dawn. And I always feel a bit of pride putting it out early. Like I’ve got the hang of this adulting and parenting lark. On sunny days I also get annoyed if I don’t have any laundry to do, seems like a waste of a nice day 😂

ValerieDoonican · 03/06/2022 08:20

Yep, I sometimes even hang the washing out if there are spots of rain but mostly a dry forecast, as it still dries overall, and the washing also benefits from the daylight (slight disinfectant effect) and the breeze shaking out the creases. Love my washing line!

ScootsMcHoy · 03/06/2022 08:20

Why would it look ridiculous? If anything it looks organised and efficient.

Most people hang the washing out before work. What's the alternative?

PuppyMonkey · 03/06/2022 08:20

Look ridiculous hanging washing out early? Is this really something that needs to be considered?Confused

hepaticanobilis · 03/06/2022 08:21

Missing the point but how early do you all get up to put the washing on if it's ready to hang by 6am? All the washing cycles my machine has take over an hour to complete, some as long as 3 hours (apart from the 15 min quick wash).

ValerieDoonican · 03/06/2022 08:21

Haha PurBal I know exactly what you mean!

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 08:22

Anytime including overnight. The weather is the only factor that counts.

Arnaquer · 03/06/2022 08:22

I'm often pegging mine out at 6 am before I go to work.

Hardbackwriter · 03/06/2022 08:23

Look ridiculous to who? Anyone who sees you hanging out washing at 6am is by definition also up and about and doing something at that time!

I hang mine out when I get the chance, which often means I hang it out in the evening and then it stays out overnight. I would happily hang it out first thing but it can be a pain because I may have a preschooler and/or a toddler with me at that time and they can't come out in the garden then as they won't reliably be quiet. That people would judge, but not just quietly hanging out washing!

SolasAnla · 03/06/2022 08:23

Hang it out if its dry.
Not hanging it out overnight is about the dew at sunset, (or overnight rain) making it damp again and it then need to remain out the next day to dry in the sun again.

Ironfloor269 · 03/06/2022 08:23

I work full time so can't be arsed to squeeze in hanging washing out to the early morning routine.

I put the machine on when I get in after work and hang the washing out in the night, when it's done.

Hanging washing out when it's completely dark, listening to the sounds on a moonlit night is one of my favourite things.

Oh and I do it only if the forecast for the next day is dry. All the clothes are dry and smelling nice when I come home after work. 😊

SavoyCabbage · 03/06/2022 08:24

It's pretty normal to be up an hour before you have to go to work though surely.

My machine has a timer so I usually use that but sometimes I will put a load on while the kettle is boiling.

I put mine on a timer so it starts by itself in the morning

I wash it the evening before

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 08:24

I sometimes run a load in the evening and peg it out first thing in the morning @hepaticanobilis if I can't be bothered before going to bed or if it's raining. A few hours in the machine damp does it no harm.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2022 08:24

I switch the machine on when I wake up so about 6:20 when h means washing is going out on the line about 7:30. As long as it's dry I put the clothes out, my mum used to say that if you'd expect the paving slabs to dry then clothes will too.

statetrooperstacey · 03/06/2022 08:25

As soon as you have wet washing hang it on the line . I often hang mine out in e evening and leave it out all night. There really isn’t a rule that says it shouldn’t be ‘darked on’ that’s just mn lunacy . Sometimes it’s almost dry in the morning.
