What are you doing today if your avoiding the jubilee?

First off, I have nothing against those who are celebrating and going to local events but it’s not for me or my dc.

My dc are teens, both on the spectrum so don’t like busy places/parties etc.., dd2 petrified of drums, marching and fireworks. We are trying to keep everything normal and calm but roads through are village will be shut, there will be loud music, bands, fireworks later tonight and probably neighbours celebrating in their gardens. TBH I can’t wait until it’s all over.

So if you are not joining in with the festivities and celebrations what do you plan on doing today and tomorrow? Is there anywhere we can go to avoid crowds?

I'm not joining in either, just pottering at home. Roads everywhere are closing round here, though I'm sure it's possible to get out. I'd probably go for a long country walk off the beaten track if I needed to do something.

Do your teens want to go out today? If they don't, why not just lie low till it's over.

I'm with you, I'm not against the Jubilee celebrations, I'm just very happy not being involved. I've just enjoyed looking at the pictures in the paper.

Have a lovely day whatever you decide to do!

Delilahwasframed · 03/06/2022 07:51

I’m not aware of any festivities or road closures where I am. I’ll be pottering in the garden.

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/06/2022 07:51

Working Thursday to Sunday.
I do like the Queen but don’t want to party and would prefer the enhanced pay.

MagicTurtle · 03/06/2022 07:52

We're not avoiding the jubilee as such (going to a village party tomorrow) but not doing anything today and planning a blissful quiet day at home. Chilling out, going for a run, getting a few jobs done etc.

Lovemusic33 · 03/06/2022 07:53

My village seems to be one of those that has gone OTT 😬
I will happily potter around the garden but dd2 is likely to ask to go out, she likes to go for a drive somewhere as part of her routine. I might take her to the garden centre or for a walk somewhere quiet. Dd1 would happily hide in her room all weekend.

I’m working for a couple hours this morning too.

I’m as anti-monarchy as they come.
I’ll be spending today packing for our holiday tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Staining and varnishing the new worktops, so that they can be installed next week! Your daughters are welcome to come and lend a hand.

Cinema this afternoon. As it is at a central London cinema no doubt will come across some bunting and people who are here for the Jubilee.

RampantIvy · 03/06/2022 07:56

Going to a food festival

AuntieMarys · 03/06/2022 07:59

Decorating.
Managed to avoid it all yesterday.

Chatwin · 03/06/2022 07:59

Nothing to avoid where I am! You wouldn't know it was happening, which is fine by me.

Simonjt · 03/06/2022 08:00

We left London to avoid if all.

Today we’re going to an outdoor activity centre, so my son is doing archery, gokarting, wall
climbing and kayaking. This evening if the weather stays fine we’ll have a BBQ.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 03/06/2022 08:02

Going out early, walking the dog, quick bit if food shopping then home for an afternoon of general stuff.

And being very happy that the route of the procession goes round us not passed the front door 😶

Our local villages seem to be embracing it fully too! I regularly drive through one which does all the villagey things, and they block the road rather than closing it. When I was new to the area it took me ages to get through due to a steam rally, and I asked why they hadn't put signs up in the days before. I was told they didn't need to as it happens the same weekend every year 😂Proper village mentality, bless them!
Our small town is closing the high street and having a 'do' at the rec, and there are a few street parties planned, but they are listed in the local rag and on fb.
Much of the area is fine but I imagine a lot of places will be busy due to so many being off work (I'm another rejoicing in enhanced pay over the period)

NightmareSlashDelightful · 03/06/2022 08:08

I’m servicing my project car. I want to get it back on the road, but I’ve been putting off dealing with the oily bits. Swarfega at the ready!

IncompleteSenten · 03/06/2022 08:09

Nothing much. Just having a nice lazy weekend.

User487216 · 03/06/2022 08:13

Probably doing something at home, I usually avoid going out on bank holidays whatever they are for as it is generally busier.

I'm going to be teaching a lesson about the difference between your, meaning it belongs to you, and you're, short for 'you are', and warning that autocorrect can sometimes mess up what an otherwise very literate person has written.

richardhammondsgoatee · 03/06/2022 08:22

Me and my friend are off to a childrens festival with my youngest dd8 and her kids 8 and 5.

I'm not actively avoiding the jubilee but there's nothing planned in my estate and I don't want to sit in watching tv at half term!

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 03/06/2022 08:32

I don’t think there’s much on here but I’m anti-royalist so wouldn’t be joining in anyway. As it happens, I’m off to look at a horsebox to buy

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 03/06/2022 08:35

I’ve just checked and series 3 of The Boys has arrived on Amazon so once the horses are seen to, I’ll be binging that tonight 😁

Arnaquer · 03/06/2022 08:36

Going to the beach

No need for that

Building Ikea furniture 😅
