What are you doing today if your avoiding the jubilee?

First off, I have nothing against those who are celebrating and going to local events but it’s not for me or my dc.

My dc are teens, both on the spectrum so don’t like busy places/parties etc.., dd2 petrified of drums, marching and fireworks. We are trying to keep everything normal and calm but roads through are village will be shut, there will be loud music, bands, fireworks later tonight and probably neighbours celebrating in their gardens. TBH I can’t wait until it’s all over.

So if you are not joining in with the festivities and celebrations what do you plan on doing today and tomorrow? Is there anywhere we can go to avoid crowds?

Gardening then out for for a late lunch with my kids. Street parties are my idea of hell. Just the thought of having to go to one makes my blood run cold. 😁

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 03/06/2022 09:07

Gardening, then a bit of a BBQ with the family today. Not a Jubilee celebration, we’ve just had a crap May & fancy a bit of a chilled weekend.

It’s interesting to note that the houses that stick Tory posters in their windows at election times are the only ones with Queen effigies & bunting galore adorning their front gardens. The rest of us are reading the bloody room.

Working. Its great as everyone else seems to be off so I can crack on with stuff and not be interrupted and I get to take my leave when I want to and everyone else will be back at work.

SoggyPaper · 03/06/2022 09:16

I am not in any way aware of any jubilee events round here. There’s not even a hint of bunting in my street or any of the ones nearby.

I think people are just treating it as a standard BH here.

AceofPentacles · 03/06/2022 09:27

Sunbathing in the garden

Egghead68 · 03/06/2022 09:33

Working, pottering and exercising.

User487216 · 03/06/2022 09:44

There doesn't seem to be much bunting about, much less than those flags that adorn everywhere when the World Cup or Euros are on. No bunting up our road at all

DelilahBucket · 03/06/2022 10:22

We were supposed to be going to my dad's but that has been cancelled so we're now wondering what we can do to avoid the street party being organised by our awful neighbour. We're not anti-party, just don't want to party with them.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/06/2022 10:26

Going to bed, 3rd night shift tonight.

Parky04 · 03/06/2022 10:30

Lazing around in the garden, reading a book/watching the cricket.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 03/06/2022 10:34

We're going for a small walk along the woodland track then back home and into the garden for fresh air. I'll just do some housework.

I'm going to be teaching a lesson about the difference between your, meaning it belongs to you, and you're, short for 'you are', and warning that autocorrect can sometimes mess up what an otherwise very literate person has written.

🙄 there's always fucking one isn't there?

PlanetNormal · 03/06/2022 10:46

Watching the cricket, then going for a long walk, as far away from any royalist bullshit as possible.

dontgobaconmyheart · 03/06/2022 10:51

Nothing really, just a normal day. If the sun shows itself later I'll be in the garden reading. Haven't got any interest in the jubilee whatsoever but do hope those who do enjoy it.

I checked our local road closures yesterday and it seems there are an awful lot over the weekend for what I assume are street parties. Fortunately not in my own road (I struggle with noise) but there is one a road over. The weather looks set to be grim here over the weekend so I do wonder what will go ahead at all.

Yes, sadly I live in area full of Tory supporters and most of the population are older people with big houses. There’s a lot of bunting, flags etc…
luckily there’s nothing happening on my road and we are a bit out of the way so no roads closed next to us and no procession near our house.

I have just been to buy food and some compost so I shall be potting up my cucumber plants, eating French stick and drinking gin in the garden.

A few things are looking like they are being cancelled due to weather forecasts for sat/sun.

There's nothing really going on by mine. There's been a few kids fun days put on by the children's centre which we have been to, but other than that there's not much. There's one street party that local residents are invited to but it's not my immediate area so won't be going.

iklboo · 03/06/2022 11:08

Reading & playing on my tablet, listening to music this morning / afternoon.

Binge watching Season 3 of The Boys tonight.

Maybe learn how not to be a rude dick at the same time.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 03/06/2022 11:17

Been and done the weekly shop, having a picnic lunch at home for DD and then just pottering about, trying to do as little as possible. Took DD to Ninja Warrior and a softplay in the last 2 days and she's complaining of aches so I'm trying to convince her she needs to just chill and watch TV with me but she's 8 and wants to run about like a wild thing so I might lose this battle.

BoujiBea · 03/06/2022 11:20

There’s a street party on my street on Sunday, which I will make a brief appearance at just to be polite and neighbourly. Not really up for a whole day and night of it, though, and I’m Irish so not really into the Royals.

Until then, it’s very easy to avoid if you want to where I am (London suburb).. I watched about 10 minutes of Jubilee stuff on TV yesterday, none today. We are going to the cinema tonight to see the new Top Gun film

Arbeity · 03/06/2022 11:20

Cracking on with house jobs. DH is working all weekend, but that gives me chance to do some bigger jobs that are a bit awkward to fit into a usual weekend. And some gardening between waiting for paint to dry between coats. I bloody love weekends like this!

BitOutOfPractice · 03/06/2022 11:22

I'm at work. Not avoiding the Jubilee as such, just got work to do and the office is deserted so I can get loads done when I get off MN

@upinaballoon feel better now? 😳

bert3400 · 03/06/2022 11:25

I live overseas but we run a UK company, so have the day off today but still had to do the school run. DH and me will head out soon for a spot of lunch. Feels a bit weird not working tbh. Happy Bank Holiday 🥳

SirChenjins · 03/06/2022 11:26

Just the usual - walking the dog, shopping, household stuff. I’m watching bits and pieces on TV but it’s very low key here compared to England from what I see on telly.

Remember to also add something into your lesson about how dickish it is to correct other people’s grammar unless your input is required @upinaballoon

l have just got back from work, l have a new metal rose arch that l am going to assemble then l am meeting up with a friend and going on a lovely country walk. The celebrations will happily pass me by, not the slightest bit interested.
