I'm thinking of going down & wondering what time to arrive to bag a view. Any ideas?

ticket only?

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 01/06/2022 18:57

It's ticket only I believe and the surrounding area will be heaving.

DockOTheBay · 01/06/2022 19:02

Absolutely packed i imagine

Honaloulou · 01/06/2022 19:08

I'm told there are already people camping to get a spot near by.

Fuckoffeverything · 01/06/2022 19:19

I think the tickets are only for the grandstand seating. The long roads are free.

I’d say get there now to have a chance of viewing anything. The crowds will probably be horrific.

Ahh maybe, however the point about it being packed stands. There are people camping out already the radio has been talking to them

Badger1970 · 01/06/2022 19:29

It already looked packed on the news from all the campers. I wouldn't imagine you'd see very much.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 01/06/2022 19:30

Just passed by there a couple of hours ago- it was HEAVING. Good luck though!

balalake · 01/06/2022 20:12

I would not go, try to find somewhere else where at least you could see the flypast. I believe the Red Arrows approach from Stratford.

godmum56 · 01/06/2022 20:14

its packed out every year and tomorrow will be total hell

Justwingingit2005 · 01/06/2022 21:18

I'm planning on taking DS to the mall or close by. Once in a lifetime. If we see it we do if not it'll be an experience.

hupfpferd · 01/06/2022 21:21

I was going to go but I can't face the crowds.

It's quite early too so getting there in time is hard, let alone in time for a decent spot.

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 01/06/2022 22:14

In past jubilee year's I've gone to the park and it's not been heaving?

The mall by bucks palace is but far lower down and in the park has been ok.

However I've not done royal wedding etc. Does anyone think even at James park and lower down will be packed?

SquirmOfEels · 01/06/2022 22:33

There will be big screens in Hyde Park (in the NE bit of the park).

I went past it this evening the scaffolding is all up ready (at least that's what I assumed it was for!)

Also portaloos just across from Speakers' Corner

You're unlikely to see much (as the campers are already out in large numbers) but I should imagine just being in the crowd would be quite an experience.

The only bit that you're likely to get a good look at is the flypast. They come in from the east (loads of sites giving exact starting locations) go over central London and along The Mall over Buckingham Palace, continue straight on for a bit, then start turning to leave London. I was in the crowd when they had the last really big flypast - right in a far corner of St James's Park where I could see nothing of The Mall or the balcony - still awesome.

This isn't normal though. It's a bank holiday, the Queens jubilee and a fair number of people have been camping out since this afternoon.

According to my SIL who has to go past the area, said it was heaving this afternoon already

yesbutnobut · 01/06/2022 22:37

You can watch on the big screens in St James' Park

Nitgel · 01/06/2022 22:46

Im going to see the flypast was thinking trafalgar sq might be good who knows

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 01/06/2022 23:01

What about other area to visit?
Chelsea? Notting hill?

FloweryCurtainTwitcher · 01/06/2022 23:10

I live nearby and just walked down
About 500 people camping (well sitting- very few tents) out of the mall. Lots of space at barriers left and no 2 deep yet
Non near horseguards- although no sign they were being stopped.
No-one in the parks.

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 01/06/2022 23:13

Thanks flowery;
Are you going to mill About tomorrow?

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 01/06/2022 23:16

Flowery are you going for a limited period only?

Not sure- might walk the dog that way 1st thing- we usually do a loop around Westminster Abbey and Whitehall so the Mall adds about 10 minutes.

Will certainly go out into the road to see the flypast and then have early dinner booked in Covent Garden so will walk up through Trafalgar Square in the late afternoon.

Saturday lots of street parties in Westminster I think. The council have closed roads and provided tables etc.

I will take some pictures if I go up 1st thing. I would imagine people will arrive from about 5am.

FloweryCurtainTwitcher · 01/06/2022 23:24

the dog has his walk at 7am- so happy to get a sense of what it is like then and report back

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 01/06/2022 23:27

Great, thanks flowery! Sounds fun,you are in the beating heart of it and with loo access 😃
