£38.43 each households contribution to the jubilee.

This is the cost of the jubilee celebrations to every household in Britain. It is based on the government figures of the cost overall being a billion pounds.

Do you think that is good value for money? Or would you have preferred to have the money in your own pocket?

Near as I can tell, with the exception of a "free day off" of work, there is literally no benefit to my family or I whatsoever.

What am I missing? Are they giving free packed lunches away somewhere?

crosbystillsandmash · 31/05/2022 15:38

It absolutely sickens me.

No, I don't want that money myself but I'd have much preferred it to go to someone who needed it or it be spent on the nhs.

Remind me what we're celebrating? Over paid and privileged human manages to live a long life, while having access to the best food, housing and healthcare money can buy. What an achievement eh?
Oh and let's not forget her slightly dodgy/dubious family.

Hip hip hooray!! 🙄

Afonavon · 31/05/2022 15:47

FFS, what a waste of money!

I’m naively confused… why would it cost that?

OurChristmasMiracle · 31/05/2022 15:50

Sorry but no the tax payer should not be paying for a glorified party. The royal family should be paying out their own pockets.

BlanketsBanned · 31/05/2022 15:52

Where is this published please

Tontostitis · 31/05/2022 15:52

Bargain

feministqueen · 31/05/2022 15:52

I think it's a great thing! People up and down the country as well as those around the world are celebrating the Jubilee. The celebrations around the country will bring much needed tourism here, bringing money into our country. It's a good thing

Sure. There are always miserable bastards who look for the negatives in everything. But those fun sponges are the ones who are gonna be sat in their homes whilst everyone else is out having fun. The cost of one celebration isn't proportionate to accumulate to "spending it on the nhs" or any other claptrap. If the nhs were a private company, it would've folded long ago with its inefficiencies and bullshit. Yes, some of the people do great work but there are lots problems. Maybe we should all forgo our takeaways or coffees or weekly since of cake and give it to the nhs eh?

Johnnysgirl · 31/05/2022 15:52

It's a sickening waste of money. Totally abhorrent.

BungleandGeorge · 31/05/2022 15:52

£38 for an extra days holiday, I’m quids in tbh. Same for anyone who has got an extra paid bank holiday.

Figgygal · 31/05/2022 15:52

Yeah and how much is it generating to the economy? Bloody millions i expect for many businesses currently struggling so yes i dont begrudge it one bit

MintJulia · 31/05/2022 15:53

For that £38 I get an extra day off. Ds is away with his dad so I get to have an adult night out and a lie in.

It's worth beyond rubies at the moment. It's been a tough year so far and having 24 hours to myself is priceless.

OliverBabish · 31/05/2022 15:53

I’m a nurse and my DH is a police officer - neither of us have the bank holidays for this Jubilee off. Meanwhile both of us are working seeing the dire effects cutbacks have had on services and the people that desperately need them. I’m pissed off tbh. The whole thing is a farce

If you think the average colonial commoner is even aware it's the Jubilee, never mind celebrating it, you're kidding yourself.

This!

Phlewf · 31/05/2022 15:56

Off the top of my head: a billion to a single hospital to actually make ends meet, or to food banks so they can sort people out with freezers and Tupperware, or spend on building new social housing to lift some weight of the list, or or or.

but I can see why that wouldn’t be an amazing way to mark the life of a woman who has lived a long time.

User487216 · 31/05/2022 15:56

Ha ha, spend it on the black hole that is the NHS instead, now that would be a waste

MintJulia · 31/05/2022 15:57

Apart from all the touristy things and benefits to companies supplying all the food and drink, it allows communities like mine to get together and have a communal picnic with a band and various stuff for the dcs. After covid, getting people together (outside) is no bad thing.

Confuseddotcombo · 31/05/2022 15:57

I think it’s great vfm

Our household has benefitted from ….

1 day paid holiday
An extra day off school for family time
Street party
Full day event at school (funded) which my children loved
A commemorative book from school which is beautiful and educational (DK Random house book)
We shall enjoy the concert on TV
Garden party with family (no funding, but we wouldn’t be having it without the extra BH).

DoubleDiamond · 31/05/2022 15:57

Do they mean that this is the cost to the country of having an extra day's bank holiday? Not the cost of having Brian May standing on a milk float or whatever it's going to be.

Confuseddotcombo · 31/05/2022 15:58

We only get 1 paid BH as DH self employed, otherwise that would be 2x days off for £38. Bargain!

roarfeckingroarr · 31/05/2022 15:59

Day off and a bit of a party is worth way more than £38 to me.

WakeWaterWalk · 31/05/2022 16:01

Presumably mostly the cost of lost productivity on the extra bank holiday.
I hope people enjoy their day off. Joining in any celebration is not compulsory.
