£38.43 each households contribution to the jubilee.

This is the cost of the jubilee celebrations to every household in Britain. It is based on the government figures of the cost overall being a billion pounds.

Do you think that is good value for money? Or would you have preferred to have the money in your own pocket?

Brilliant. I just love contributing from the little I earn to celebrate people who have more money than I would ever have in ten lifetimes.

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 17:52

Or the 20 billion spent tearing up the countryside for HS2 which no one wants except the government and the companies who are building it - just happen to be Tory donors and voters. Cost us £ 770 so far.

PurpleDaisies · 31/05/2022 17:52

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 17:45

Alot cheaper than the 400+billions the government gave to their pals and crooks in wasted PPE and fraudulent furlough pay which cost each household more than £15,200 across the years it is clawed back and that's without interest. It's in the pockets of their cronies right now. Why aren't you focusing on that?

Because this is a thread about the jubilee. People are capable of caring about different issues at the same time.

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 17:54

You give money to Tory billionaires from every paypacket you get. The government has poured money into the bank accounts of the super-rich from public funds. Hundreds and hundreds of billions.

Absolutely agree with this

It's not a job though. She is paid a ridiculous amount of money, would never be fired or pulled up on her performance. I'm sure she's a lovely old lady but i don't want to pay for her or her odd family to "work"

cocktailclub · 31/05/2022 17:57

To be honest she's only survived this long thanks to the access she has to fantastic healthcare and all the support she needs.
Yes we should celebrate it, the tourists will still come to see the palace etc but at this time we should redirect the bill of the money to people struggling to eat or heat their homes let alone have a jubilee pic Nic.

mangoontoast · 31/05/2022 17:57

the80sweregreat · 31/05/2022 16:46

The local London news had a lady being interviewed yesterday who said that the revenue from the jubilee will be 80 million pounds , so this is another reason it's being pushed so much and the supermarkets must be cleaning up too with extra sales of this and that.
I can totally understand why people are anti , but some will get a lot of enjoyment from a street party or gathering and it should help the economy.

So the supermarkets will make even bigger profits than their usual astronomical profits. That helps us how?

Mojoj · 31/05/2022 17:57

Just the thought of it makes me want to hurl.

I hate posts like this…it has no context.

the sun or the daily mail is where this article will have come from…

its likely the cost per person due to a reduction in gdp, but the major companies will take most of that hit in bank holiday costs etc. I am working the bank holiday - but my employer is giving an extra day holiday for it, so my day off costs them my day’s wages…it doesn’t cost me anything.

i couldn’t care less about the royals either way, but they bring in more money from tourism than they cost so…what’s the problem

The problem is that their very existence perpetuates the idea that some people are better and more valuable than others. Purely because of the family they were born into /married into. It's revolting.

Oh give over it hasn't been taken as extra and never was yours or mine and for some who don't pay tax etc its free
The revenue to many places will put much more in the public pot and help many businesses etc
Plus im happy for an extra day off

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:02

@Figgygal exactly but so many anti royalists on mumsnet
I know hardly anyone who cares in realife but this place is full of them

Lulu1919 · 31/05/2022 18:03

Vegeetas · 31/05/2022 15:35

Near as I can tell, with the exception of a "free day off" of work, there is literally no benefit to my family or I whatsoever.

What am I missing? Are they giving free packed lunches away somewhere?

No free day off for me...I'm a TA
Independent school
Not getting a day off or an extra days pay

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 18:03

It's very fashionable to be anti-Royalist at the minute and meanwhile Johnson pisses hundreds of billions of our money directly into the bank accounts of his pals and no one on here says much about that.

Many mumsnetters are amongst the wealthier members of society and many just don't care but are happy to join the fashionable ant-Royalist moaners.

Don't you realise that if you don't have the Queen you'll have a British version if Trump- a politician as Head of State. Someone who will demand the same levels of support, security , housing, etc. They'll be out to earn themselves millions- people with no scruples. It won't be any cheaper and they'll be politically motivated and change regularly- no consistency, no respect from other countries. Johnson, Cameron, May, God forbid Gove or perhaps a big business person like an oil company owner or a builder or perhaps a 'popular' figure- an ex-footballer or a TOWIE or Katie Price - there'll be idiots who would vote for them.

I am not particularly a Royalist but I would rather have them than a political Head of State or an elected populist.

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:04

Also a source of where you get this figure from with all details is relevant rather than cherry picking just the figure to rile up those who think one off payments will fix the nhs etc

MayDaze · 31/05/2022 18:05

feministqueen · 31/05/2022 15:52

I think it's a great thing! People up and down the country as well as those around the world are celebrating the Jubilee. The celebrations around the country will bring much needed tourism here, bringing money into our country. It's a good thing

Sure. There are always miserable bastards who look for the negatives in everything. But those fun sponges are the ones who are gonna be sat in their homes whilst everyone else is out having fun. The cost of one celebration isn't proportionate to accumulate to "spending it on the nhs" or any other claptrap. If the nhs were a private company, it would've folded long ago with its inefficiencies and bullshit. Yes, some of the people do great work but there are lots problems. Maybe we should all forgo our takeaways or coffees or weekly since of cake and give it to the nhs eh?

The good thing about living in a democracy is that not everyone has to agree on everything. However, not everyone was asked if they would like to contribute to a big party for a wealthy old lady. So it's not very democratic and it's ok if some of us "fun sponges" are a bit pissed off about it.

Especially those of us who lose an extra day's pay because we are self employed.

Tigerblue · 31/05/2022 18:05

We're both still having to work as normal - in fact, DH extra as it's his week for 24 hour call out. I was looking forward to watching the concert and the street party (we're opting out of bring and share and just taking one cold pizza and salad to keep cost down). I hadn't thought about the overall cost and feel a bit like I've been kicked in the teeth, as I've just been trying to work out what I can buy with what's left of my weekly budget, which is £22.86 to Saturday (budget is £50pw).

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:06

@CharlotteRose90 how do they sponge of you , do you know they bring in revenue and pay taxes, im pretty sure you don't fund them very much and they pay a lot more in
People spout all this without thinking if the bigger picture

RichardMarxisinnocent · 31/05/2022 18:06

All I am getting is an extra day off and extra stress from losing a day of working on my current project at work. I've worked late a few days last week and this so I don't fall too far behind (we're nearing a couple of tight deadlines).

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:07

All those saying they would rather have the money it wouldn't be sent back to you if not spent on this ffs

ssd · 31/05/2022 18:09

It sickens me. And I'm working for min wage as normal on Thursday and Friday.

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:10

@MayDaze you don't get asked thats not how a democracy works either
They don't ask every time they spend something
You do live in a country that has a royal family though so these things are part and parcel
And the op has only mentioned the negative none of the positives it will bring to the economy and that is actually good for us all

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:10

@ssd you must be getting time of in lieu though

ssd · 31/05/2022 18:11

And there is no street parties where i am in Scotland but there's less of us up the royal families arse here

worriedatthistime · 31/05/2022 18:11

@francesfrankenfurter it would never be. In your own pocket though would it , thats a stupid suggestion
