£38.43 each households contribution to the jubilee.

francesfrankenfurter · 31/05/2022 15:33

This is the cost of the jubilee celebrations to every household in Britain. It is based on the government figures of the cost overall being a billion pounds.

Do you think that is good value for money? Or would you have preferred to have the money in your own pocket?

Absolutely disgusting. All to celebrate the reign of a nonce enabler.

ZarquonsSandals · 31/05/2022 16:44

I'd much rather have the money. I'd rather spend it on food or heating.

the80sweregreat · 31/05/2022 16:46

The local London news had a lady being interviewed yesterday who said that the revenue from the jubilee will be 80 million pounds , so this is another reason it's being pushed so much and the supermarkets must be cleaning up too with extra sales of this and that.
I can totally understand why people are anti , but some will get a lot of enjoyment from a street party or gathering and it should help the economy.

Latenightthoughts111 · 31/05/2022 16:48

Yeah it really pisses me off too. I have to pay for nursery that she can’t use as they’re shut for two days on top of every other activity costing so much more because it’s “bank holiday” I’m dreading it

AnotherEmma · 31/05/2022 16:56

It actually cost us more than that.
Our DC goes to nursery on Thursdays and Fridays, and we have to pay even when nursery is closed for bank holidays, so we're paying for two days of childcare we're not getting, which is £96.
I work part-time and get pro rata'd annual leave and bank holidays; this means that I have to book bank holidays off (not that I have the option to work on those days) which means that I am actually losing nearly a day of annual leave.
I am indifferent to the royal family, I don't dislike them and don't love them, but I do think this country/government's priorities are all wrong.
the Jubilee is just one of many examples.

Namenic · 31/05/2022 17:00

I’m happy with it. I reckon queen has done a pretty good job and still does ‘work’ even at her age (which not many 90year olds do).

MissStarry · 31/05/2022 17:01

I’d rather have the money tbh and as I’m a contractor working a set 20 days per month, I was looking forward to allocating my June days off at either end of the month for a holiday myself, but instead they’re pre-allocated for the jubilee 🤬

ilovesooty · 31/05/2022 17:02

The bank holiday means nothing to me. I'm self employed.

If the Royal family want to celebrate they should stand the cost.

It's jingoistic bullshit and I'm glad I'm going away.

rnsaslkih · 31/05/2022 17:03

Tbh I don’t care. My family are working right through it anyway.

TryBeforeIBuy · 31/05/2022 17:04

What ! And i just heard today my employer is NOT giving us the extra BHoliday.

imperialminty · 31/05/2022 17:06

I’m very happy to pay that much. I’d probably be happy with a bit more!

actiongirl1978 · 31/05/2022 17:07

I think the extra Bank Holiday is great, but wish it could have been after the exams and outside half term so anyone working in schools could enjoy it too. Otherwise it's just another day.

We won't be celebrating but that's because we don't do social/party type stuff. Happy if everyone else enjoys it all.

Dominuse · 31/05/2022 17:07

crosbystillsandmash · 31/05/2022 15:38

It absolutely sickens me.

No, I don't want that money myself but I'd have much preferred it to go to someone who needed it or it be spent on the nhs.

Remind me what we're celebrating? Over paid and privileged human manages to live a long life, while having access to the best food, housing and healthcare money can buy. What an achievement eh?
Oh and let's not forget her slightly dodgy/dubious family.

Hip hip hooray!! 🙄

This

Highfivemum · 31/05/2022 17:23

No idea where u have got this figure from but a post likes this incites assorts of negativity. Firstly if this is the case and that is if. What about the money it has brought in ? All the items sold etc. businesses have reported record sales. Tourists too are flocking to celebrate and buy items. This is an historic event after all. I would subject the figure is much lower and most will come out of the queens purse.
interesting our village has had activities since yesterday through until Sunday. All free and it has brought the whole village together. Kiddies are out talking about our country’s history. Whether you live the Royals or hate them it is our History.
there is more to this then a figure being thrown around

100problems · 31/05/2022 17:29

I'm cool with that. Double BH and loads of feel good. What's not to like.

Hillary17 · 31/05/2022 17:31

Honestly yes. For the time off and for the increase in community spirit, I’m happy with it costing our household that much.

NoWigNoWit · 31/05/2022 17:39

Yeah I can’t get too worked up about it either.

Im happy about an extra few days, a few drinks with my family and everyone in a good mood.

well…not on here obvs 😆

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 17:45

Alot cheaper than the 400+billions the government gave to their pals and crooks in wasted PPE and fraudulent furlough pay which cost each household more than £15,200 across the years it is clawed back and that's without interest. It's in the pockets of their cronies right now. Why aren't you focusing on that?

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 17:47

Or the hundreds of billions they pay to builders to build new homes- straight into the pockets of big building companies who are Tory voters and doners. Why aren't you asking about that ?

Hutchy16 · 31/05/2022 17:48

I hate posts like this…it has no context.

the sun or the daily mail is where this article will have come from…

its likely the cost per person due to a reduction in gdp, but the major companies will take most of that hit in bank holiday costs etc. I am working the bank holiday - but my employer is giving an extra day holiday for it, so my day off costs them my day’s wages…it doesn’t cost me anything.

i couldn’t care less about the royals either way, but they bring in more money from tourism than they cost so…what’s the problem

LuluBlakey1 · 31/05/2022 17:48

Or the £400 they are giving everyone who earns £100,000+ towards their heating bills? Do you think that's worth it- you are paying for it?

mangoontoast · 31/05/2022 17:50

Vegeetas · 31/05/2022 15:35

Near as I can tell, with the exception of a "free day off" of work, there is literally no benefit to my family or I whatsoever.

What am I missing? Are they giving free packed lunches away somewhere?

Not even that for everyone. Because of the way my contract is written, it comes out of my holiday allowance!

Ridley4 · 31/05/2022 17:50

Namenic · 31/05/2022 17:00

I’m happy with it. I reckon queen has done a pretty good job and still does ‘work’ even at her age (which not many 90year olds do).

Absolutely agree with this

bellamountain · 31/05/2022 17:51

This is not a free day off for my husband who is self employed by a company who aren't opening over the 4 days. Usually he'd be able to work at the weekend.

paintingcolors · 31/05/2022 17:52

Would have been nice to have been given a choice. Money in our pockets and a private celebration for their family would be my choice. They're terrified that if us commoners ever had the chance to get rid of them through a referendum it's likely they'd be given the boot.
