This is the cost of the jubilee celebrations to every household in Britain. It is based on the government figures of the cost overall being a billion pounds.

Do you think that is good value for money? Or would you have preferred to have the money in your own pocket?

I would pay £38 just for the Paddington sketch.

some people have very little understanding of economics. Do people really not understand that when they hear things like ‘jubilee has cost xxx’ that money has all gone to other people and given a boost to earnings - it hasn’t just vanished! They also don’t seem to understand that they haven’t personally been charged £38 (or £1.03 or whatever) it’s an estimated average!

I’m a nurse and my DH is a police officer - neither of us have the bank holidays for this Jubilee off. Meanwhile both of us are working seeing the dire effects cutbacks have had on services and the people that desperately need them. I’m pissed off tbh. The whole thing is a farce

So you'll be paid double time (well I know your dh will) so that's at least something 🤷🏼‍♀️

What's actually happening then, as far as I am aware it just community stuff paid for locally.

There are funding pots that councils have applied for to get the funding for local free events

I work in retail and worked the bh weekend and got single time. I dont know what is more annoying, this idea we are all off celebrating something a lot of us find abhorrent or working and getting paid extra.
Im in Scotland and im pleased to see its been very under celebrated up here. Ive not seen any media up here reporting how the vast majority of Scottish people feel. Only seen one report on ch4 from Glasgow, where the council decided not to spend money on celebrations during the worst cost of living crisps most of us have seen. And there were only 2 applications for jubilee street parties in the whole of Glasgow, that was reported on ch4 news. Thank god most of us up here have more sense. The fawning going on in parts of England and all over the media is an embarrassment. And the excessive amount of money spent is an utter disgrace.

Do people really not understand that when they hear things like ‘jubilee has cost xxx’ that money has all gone to other people and given a boost to earnings - it hasn’t just vanished! a lot of small local businesses I’m familiar with have said it’s been a huge boost for them, they’ve been working none stop since last Tuesday trying to keep up with orders, , they are so grateful as quite a few were so badly effected, I’m so happy for them, And I’m pretty sure that most hotels are at full capacity, so are other hospitality and tourism related businesses ,
its been amazing, something I haven’t seen in other countries, for al the moaners on here just sit back , enjoy and have lots of Cake .

I read that the boost to the economy over the bank holiday is £2 billion. Lots of tourists from abroad coming over just to see this event.

I don't mind it per se, in that I can afford it..however, with crises on our doorstep like homelessness and affordable food and energy, if I had been given the option, I'd have preferred the money spent that way and we all have a quiet drink at home, at a set time, to toast the Queen.

I was brought up traditionally, but cannot see much point in the RF beyond the Queen.
