£38.43 each households contribution to the jubilee.

This is the cost of the jubilee celebrations to every household in Britain. It is based on the government figures of the cost overall being a billion pounds.

Do you think that is good value for money? Or would you have preferred to have the money in your own pocket?

Can we compare it to the wasted PPE sourced from various minister's mates, or the expensive largely failed test and trace system, or Covid fraud, or the cost to businesses of being shut for at least six weeks more than would have happened with prompt action in March and September 2020?

carefullycourageous · 31/05/2022 16:02

Jeeps, a billion is an eyewatering amount for this.

MarshaBradyo · 31/05/2022 16:04

I’m assuming it’s the lost day of productivity, is there a link to an article?

I’m ok with it as an extra day off

LowlandLucky · 31/05/2022 16:07

Well worth the money

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 31/05/2022 16:08

On the one hand, there are people having to choose between putting the heating on, or eating. On the other hand, money is being thrown at this celebration of opulence and elitism and privilege, for someone, who has basically managed to stay alive, with the best care and food in the world.

It's an absolute fucking farce and I will not be celebrating. As it happens, I would have had the day booked off anyway as it is half-term, but I couldn't give a flying fuck about an extra bank holiday and would have been happy to work it if necessary.

ResentfulLemon · 31/05/2022 16:08

If it's cost me £38 for an extra day of leave from work - that's a bargain.

If the £38 is my contribution to the 'celebrations' I want a refund - I need that money more than anyone needs a party.

carefullycourageous · 31/05/2022 16:08

The DCMS Impact Assessment estimates that the cost would be around £1.2 billion, which equates to around 0.08 per cent of GDP, but could be as high as £3.5 billion (0.25 per cent of GDP).

No way. I didn't consent to this. What the hell is it paying for?

That is dated 2012 for her Diamond Jubilee

The bank holiday

CuriousCatfish · 31/05/2022 16:14

I'd rather be a miserable fun sponge than celebrate a rich woman who has done fuck all for me.

I'm off work anyway as I only work term time.

ChickenRat · 31/05/2022 16:14

I'm having a c-section tomorrow. DH has booked tomorrow off as holiday, having Thursday and Friday as bank holidays means he can be around for me and the baby without starting his paternity leave until next week, that extends the length of time he can take off work in total. So it's worked out well for me personally.

I can see why others may begrudge that £38 though

CharlotteRose90 · 31/05/2022 16:15

Nope I’d rather the money go elsewhere to a more deserved cause. Especially when I don’t have the so called bank holidays off as I’m working. Utter joke.

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/05/2022 16:16

We have the money in our pockets, don’t we as people are being paid?

Exactly all her family do is sponge off us and do nothing. I’m sick of paying for them .

OldTinHat · 31/05/2022 16:18

Single household and living off ESA here. That £38 odd is a lot more money to me than, say, a family of four with working parents.

AyeUpMeDuck · 31/05/2022 16:18

Theres families out there struggling to eat, I'd have preferred that money spent on them tbh

donquixotedelamancha · 31/05/2022 16:19

We pay about half that every year anyway and that ignores the cost to public services of hosting the royal family.

It's not that much money as a proportion of government spending but for me the principle is the thing:

I'd rather hire another 20,000 teachers than pay for the lifestyle of one family because their ancestor conquerored Britain.

GlazedDoughnuts · 31/05/2022 16:21

It's not a free day off for those of us who are on a low income. £39..I make £57 a day before tax. Would rather be in work earning my fulls day pay to be honest.

PurpleDaisies · 31/05/2022 16:28

There are so many more deserving causes that the money could have been spent on, it’s bad enough we have a monarch we can neither choose nor get rid of without all the sycophantic bullshit that comes with it.

motogirl · 31/05/2022 16:29

What's actually happening then, as far as I am aware it just community stuff paid for locally.

Viviennemary · 31/05/2022 16:32

Ridiculous. Can't be bothered with the royals. They are in it for themselves. We are a sideline.

Oblomov22 · 31/05/2022 16:33

What is the cost of the Jubilee Celebrations? Total?
What is the figure? How is it being spent? What is it being spent on? I can literally see no benefit to me. Don't mind some bunting. What's the other millions bring spent on?

"Derbyshire council has put aside £200,0000_. Details of exactly how the money will be spent will be released in due course."

Villagewaspbyke · 31/05/2022 16:37

What is that cost made up of? Party and day off will do us all good whether you are a royalist or not.

balletmuffin · 31/05/2022 16:41

We don't get the extra day off. It's a normal working day here. No extra pay, time off in lieu etc.
