You know when there is a bit of a pile on here where someone mentions sexism and everyone else insists their partner would never dream of xyz?

I’d really like to think you’ve had a word with yours!

My dog stopped to relieve himself while on our walk. I would never dream of doing anything other than picking up his waste and I can manage that without an audience.

I’m 5ft and female walking a breed of dog typically thought of as a good family pet. If you or your partner are labouring under the delusion he would have stopped to supervise a man and make sure he was a responsible dog owner, or remark,
”good choice” when I turned out to be so and he missed out on his civilian law enforcement moment, I rather suspect you are mistaken.

NAMALT-but yours is!

Yes this has been bugging me since it happened, yes I probably do need to get a life!

It's perfectly clear. Do you have comprehension problems?

How fucking rude! Glad it's crystal clear to you 🤣

Insanelysilver · 30/05/2022 20:36

I really couldn’t imagine a man checking another man is picking up the dog poo either ! So Patronising and controlling.

How fucking rude! Glad it's crystal clear to you 🤣

You don't find wrongly accusing someone of posting nonsense fucking rude?

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 30/05/2022 20:56

Is it not a bit ironic that OP is saying the man wouldn't have said it to a man ... but instead of heading her OP 'dear officious man at the lake' she's directing it to the woman? Grin

I regularly walk my dog round a lake a little way away from home and he always runs off ahead of me but keeps coming back and never goes out of my line of sight.
I'm disabled and hobble along with my stick, so when he runs off and stops for a poo, I can see where he is and by the time he's finished I'm usually fairly close, reaching into my bag/pocket for a poo bag.
It's amazing how many people see the dog do it and because I'm not there within 10 seconds of him stooping, there are murmers, tuts and occasionally snarky remarks coz they don't necessarily know that he's my dog and I'm tottering along at the best speed I can manage.
I've reached the place he's left his deposit and they'll then go quiet as I bend to pick it up but depending on my mood, I've been known to turn around and give a filthy look to the person who's decided they're the poo police and on some occasions I've made it clear that even when I was 25metres away I could hear their comments, I could see exactly where my dog was and what he was doing and I was heading there as fast as I could, and that they might like to take a look around to see whether anyone is heading for the dog, reaching for a poo bag before loudly making snarky comments in future!

On the one hand I would bristle if a man did this with me; on the other hand, I am the queen of maintaining eye contact with dog owners until they start making moves towards clearing it up. I wouldn’t make a snarky remark, though.

Thank God you maintain eye contact. We’d completely forget otherwise . 🙄

It was condescending and irritating of him. But maybe he, like so many of us, is fed up to the back teeth of dodging piles of festering shit every time he goes out in public, or scraping out of shoes/pram wheels? There is a huge and worsening problem in this country with lazy, selfish dog owners leaving their animal's waste lying around. It completely ruins several of our local beauty spots - one or two in particular seem to have been designated as dog toilets, and the rest of us avoid them as a result. There are also dog owners who carry bags and will loudly proclaim that they are not the sort of selfish twat who doesn't pick up, but in truth they only clean it up if they think somebody is watching them.

So yes, he was rude and patronising. But maybe he's just at the end of his tether with public areas ruined by shit.

I don't know why people find the random man thing so entertaining. Mystifying.

jaynecooper · 31/05/2022 16:55

i have no idea what all this meant ?

jewishmum · 07/06/2022 07:55

I took this to mean he thought your breed of dog was a good choice.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 07/06/2022 08:51

Yes. Hold women responsible for men's sexism. Seems reasonable. Hmm

Dogsaresomucheasier · 29/05/2022 18:28

Sorry to have confused some of you! I was addressing the lady of the family for a few reasons; firstly with a sense of irony, in a “sort ‘I’m out, love!” sort of way.

Secondly because so many women on here claim to have partners who are enlightened yet here was a family unit where daddy, and someone’s dh, was objectionably sexist without a second thought. He, and quite possibly she, honestly thought it was an okay thing to say and do. (He was quite definitely referencing the dog shit and saw me as someone he could intimidate without getting thumped/bitten hence the reference to height and dog breed. (Cocker spaniel btw.)

I’ve already acknowledged I should have said something at the time and will save some of the fabulous responses on here in case there is a next time.

I'm really honestly quite baffled that you have got intimidation, sexism and heightism based from a comment "good choice" re: picking up your dog's turd.

Did he slap your bum whilst you were down there whilst commenting on what a small little woman you were?!

NotaDiva · 07/06/2022 10:16

I get why it's annoying. I don't currently have a dog but we frequently look after MiL's spaniel when she is on holiday. I've had a couple of people - always men, and always when I'm walking alone with the dog, never with DH - tell me "you'd better be picking up after that dog". The majority of times, I've already got the bloody poo bag in my hands. I have once snapped and answered "what does it look like I'm doing?" to which the bloke got really red faced and sheepish and scurried away. I once had someone say it to me when the dog was just walking along, on lead, showing no signs of even contemplating a poo. I've also observed the same person walking past male dog walkers without a word, after taking time to berate me.

Tbh though, as angry as I get about the blatant sexism, I get equally angry at those irresponsible dog owners who make life difficult for the rest of us. Dog mess seems to have gotten worse in this area since covid - I'm not sure if fewer people on the streets meant that people started trying to get away with it and have kept up the pattern and I can understand the anger.

That said, I'm probably just as guilty, in the opposite way. Last week, while out for a walk, I saw two men ignoring their dog fouling (separate instances on the same walk) and I didn't say anything as I felt intimidated by them. I would ahve said something to a woman though and have done in the past. That probably makes me no better.

Axahooxa · 07/06/2022 10:20

I cleaned up some dog poo I saw in the park the other day. Had to tie up my own dog to go and do it. It had been there a while. I got the harshest looks from a group of people as if I’d just left it there for hours! 😆

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 07/06/2022 10:22

I get the dog owners being all defensive but what are we supposed to do about the dog pandemic which means that we now have thousands more dogs than we used to, loads more dog shit everywhere and are constantly being faced with the “he’s only being friendly” bullshit as yet another out of control fucking dog launches itself at me or my kids?

I’m so over it. I wish we’d licence dog ownership in this country and make people think twice. Most of the new dog owners seek to have not one fucking clue how to train their bloody animals 🤬.

Carriecakes80 · 17/06/2022 11:53

Is this about you being annoyed that this guy wouldn't have stopped to check if a bloke was picking up the poo, yet you yourself have addressed this to the wife?? I don't know if I am misunderstanding this?
Why would you not say something? I bloody would have if anyone stopped to watch me and my mutt, and it wouldn't have been the wife either!

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 17/06/2022 11:59

So hard to make sense of this..............
