Would you report someone for continuously driving around with no car tax or m.o.t?

Without going into loads of details, I’ve got nightmare neighbours who’ve lived near us for almost a year. There’s always something kicking off at their house, and one of the tenants drives his car like an idiot, by racing around, and so obviously has no regard for how his driving could impact others.
Because of the way he drives and parks his car where he likes, even if it’s on the path or over people’s driveways, I checked to see if the car is taxed, only to find out there’s been no tax or m.o.t on it for months.
Considering the car is being used every day, would you report it?

Yes. Without a doubt.

Isaidnoalready · 28/05/2022 07:24

Yes but don't expect anything to happen

Yes of course. I wonder if he's even passed his test.

Yes

Gingernaut · 28/05/2022 07:31

Fuck yes.

ClinkeyMonkey · 28/05/2022 07:34

Definitely. Wouldn't want to be the poor sod he smashes into without insurance.

Have you reported this kind of thing before and there was no action taken? If so, that’s shocking that people can get away with driving illegally.

That’s what I’ve been thinking, if he causes an accident does that invalidate his insurance (assuming he’s got some) or if he’s got insurance would they pay out for the third party still do you know?

He might have insurance.

Yes of course. I wonder if he's even passed his test.

He’s about thirty, so not really young so I’m assuming he’s passed, although there’s no telling really, especially if he’s prepared to drive illegally.

Yes, they would.

ClinkeyMonkey · 28/05/2022 07:40

Sorry, I wasn't concentrating. He may have insurance. I would still report him though.

I thought tax was invalided without an mot .

I have done with a particular person in the past, several times because they did absolutely nothing about it

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 28/05/2022 07:47

I had a twatty neighbour who did this and used to park opposite my drive making it really difficult to get out. He used to drive his little kid around in that car too.
One of the neighbours reported it for having no tax and it got clamped. He didn't do anything about it so they came and towed it. Gave everyone on the street great pleasure watching it be lifted onto a lorry.

flashpaper · 28/05/2022 07:49

Car insurance is only valid with an MOT, so whether he has insurance or not (likely not, if he's okay with driving an untaxed and non-roadworthy car), it would invalidate anyway. Imagine if he smashes into something or someone and has no insurance. I'd definitely report, more so because he's a pain in the arse.

Did they eventually do something? I should hope so, but it’s disgusting that they didn’t act straight away.

It serves your twatty neighbour right! And nothing more than they deserved. It baffles me that some people think paying for mots and tax doesn’t apply to them.

legalseagull · 28/05/2022 07:54

Yes because his insurance is invalid if he has not MOT or tax.

Nope, nothing ever got done. She used to drive round all day with kids in the car and no tax mot or insurance and not a care in the world. I was disgusted nobody seemed to care despite me reporting her several times

GrendelsGrandma · 28/05/2022 07:58

You check the insurance on your own vehicle here ownvehicle.askmid.com/ you're not supposed to use it for other people's.

What a crazy world we live in, unbelievable.
I just hope someone from the DVLA could read your post and answer why they obviously ignore some reports.
